24.01.2022 Last Tuesday we returned from the annual sampling trip. Russ Sinclair, David Ladd, Dane Wilden and 12 enthusiastic undergrad volunteers managed to repair severe damage to the fence done by goats (we are very worried about this!), sample permanent quadrats, photograph permanent photopoints, and have heaps of fun.

23.01.2022 Well, all seems ready to the annual Koonamore Working Party. Two academics (Russ Sinclair and myself) and 14 volunteers (12 of them undergrads in Adelaide University) will be departing tomorrow for seven days of field work. We will be mainly measuring permanent plots records (started in 1926!) but we will also look into fence maintenance - one side definitely need replacement. We will be off-line while there, so the photos will have to wait until we return... Jope Facelli

22.01.2022 The 2019 Working party had to withstand a series of dust storms, but this did not prevent the work to continue!

20.01.2022 The 2019 work party returned yesterday after 8 days at Bindy-I. The weather was cool, mostly, but windy and dusty. The group managed to complete the reading of two quadrats and covered quite a bit of ground looking for rabbits, not to mention having a lot of fun. Our sincere thanks to all of them!! Photos and more information on the trip coming up soon!

20.01.2022 For a limited time the latest publication on the Koonamore Reserve is available as open access. Download before January 11! https://authors.elsevier.com/c/1Y61IVu7-m4l5

18.01.2022 Here is the wonderful group of people who gathered to complete the 2019 measurements and help to the maintenance of the TGB Osborne Vegetation Reserve at Koonamore. Our sincere thanks to all of you for all the hard work you did.

16.01.2022 Very excited! We will travel to KVR tomorrow with a great group of volunteers to try and complete as much of the 2020 sampling of permanent plots as possible. It is a shorter trip too - just till Sunday 6th... A full report and photos to follow. In the meantime here are some photos of the new east-side fence, and work completed in our previous trip. And as we are at it, a reminder that we are still collecting funds to pay for the fence replacement which was completed borrowin...g funds from other projects. Donations can be made here: https://give.adelaide.edu.au/koonamore-reserve-project See more

16.01.2022 And then there was this unwelcome intruder... While the goat situation is not as serious as last year, we strongly feel that we must replace 2 km of fence to be able to protect the vegetation inside the reserve. The last fence replacement (North side) was made possible by the generous contribution of several donors, and we hope that this will also the case for the replacement of the East side fence...

16.01.2022 During the last camp I was telling volunteers how lush the Reserve looked in 2010, after some rather extraordinary rains. Here are some photos from Nov-December 2010... It is incredible perhaps looking now at how parched the Reserve looks that suitable rains can change the vegetation in such a dramatic way! Of course the same is not true for the grazed area outside the Reserve.

15.01.2022 YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO CONTRIBUTE TO THIS UNIQUE PROJECT An opportunity and a need As you probably know the T.G. Osborn Vegetation Reserve at Koonamore was established nearly 100 years ago and one of the sides of the reserve had until a few month ago the original fence. While maintenance and repairs were effected regularly, 95 years of service and the action of feral goats meant there was an urgent need for replacing this fence. Early this year we had a window of opportunity... to do this one of the issues of replacing the fence is that it make the reserve vulnerable for a short period of time to pest incursions. However, because of the intense drought of recent years rabbit numbers seemed to be at a particularly low level. This provided us with the opportunity, but not the means. We managed to obtain support from the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Adelaide, and the Mabel Paxton Fund. The remaining funds (12,000 $) were borrowed from other sources but need to be repaid with some urgency. We were fortunate enough to get solid support in our past fund-raising effort to replace another section of the fence, and while we acknowledge that the times we are living are quite challenging, we count on your generosity once again. We will greatly appreciate even a smaller contribution! Donations over 5 $ are tax deductible. 15.01.2022 Some views of the old and replaced fences at the Reserve. There was real urgency for the job to be done. Now we need to find the funds to pay for it!

11.01.2022 Now we have confirmation that at least one echidna inhabits the reserve. Lots of scats, diggings and scratches, and a sighting!

06.01.2022 As usual Nature put up a show for us.

02.01.2022 A short publication on Koonamore Reserve. More than reporting results, this is a call to interested collaborators to take advantage of the information accumulated over 90 years of continued monitoring.

02.01.2022 We are starting to recruit volunteers for the 2019 working trip. Priority is given to students of the University of Adelaide, particularly in the last year of their degree - but everybody is welcome to apply!
