25.01.2022 Update- restart performed again at 7am as we noticed stability issues from 1am restart. System is stable on restart. Thank you for your patience and support. There will be a 5 minute outage sometime between 12:01am and 1am tomorrow morning. This is a brief maintenance outage and service will resume as normal after.

24.01.2022 Customers should be aware that there is a sharp increase in scamming traffic over the last month. If you don’t know who sent you the message or it’s not the normal way your bank contacts you, don’t open any links and delete the message. Also, if you have never bought bitcoins then there is no account awaiting your authentication. That seems to be the most common one recently. If something is too good to be true it definitely isn’t.

24.01.2022 Apologies for the outage this morning between 7 and 8am. We are in the process of migrating the service across to new server and had trouble restarting a process. Back to normal now. We’ll try to keep the work to the early hours.

22.01.2022 We are aware of the issue with the intermittent feed this morning - there will be a brief outage at 11:20am until 11:30am. This is part of the restart we undertook last night and is about rectifying stability issues. We apologise for the inconvenience.

22.01.2022 Kooralbyn Community Broadband is officially 3 today! Thank you to all our wonderful customers and supporters.

21.01.2022 Apologies to customers on the Yulgibar tower this afternoon for the outage. We fixed 15mins after we saw a customer notification. Please let us know if you are having problems with the service. We can almost always remedy any problems within the same hour.

21.01.2022 Not a problem we suffer but interesting. https://www.cnn.com//old-tv-breaks-broadband-vi/index.html

20.01.2022 We continued to operate on batteries during most of the outage and were back up within 10 minutes of power being restored. A really great effort from the team here at KCB. Preparation is key.

19.01.2022 An update to changing supply source for those following. We will be getting our fibre connection and a new node in Lady Caroline as promised. However the old cable run through the resort is so comprised that it will be far more cost effective to run a new conduit path straight up Lady Caroline from the exchange eliminating the circuitous path up Routley and back. This will take more time however and we are yet to get a start date. Planning for other Australian Telecommunications Networks is now done by engineers in India so there is a slight disconnect. The delay is out of my control but I apologise for building expectations.

18.01.2022 We are temporarily capping customer numbers to preserve what bandwidth we currently supply for existing customers. This is a temporary measure until we can build fibre to the exchange and find a new supplier. We value the customers we have and will welcome more when we can provide them with a greater quality of service. This is not something that any business wishes to do but it will lead to less disappointment and frustration for the customers that have already. We will up...date you all should we make any more headway changing the status quo. Regards Michael See more

16.01.2022 There may be a brief outage around 10pm as we install an new uninterrupted power supply. Thank you for your patience.

15.01.2022 When we launched in 2017 our plans were $55 a month unlimited data, no contract. That’s unchanged. Competition was at $90+ for 1000gb per month contracted for two years. It’s wonderful to see now the National average is $65 a month, unlimited, no contract and mobile data being more freely applied. We didn’t change anything but by existing we prove such pricing is viable and already in the market.

14.01.2022 In an effort to reduce costs for our community, Kooralbyn Community Broadband is now supplying a free internet connection for all the shops in the Wellington Bundock Drive complex. This will be permanent and can be used as the main connection or a backup. This is available to the Doctors, Foodworks, St Mary’s Pharmacy, New Vintage and Right Fit. See Vicky in New Vintage for access.

14.01.2022 View of Kooralbyn from Mt Kooralbyn Saturday morning.

14.01.2022 Just an update on the change to a fibre only connection to our hub. The work has been approved and should start shortly. It will involve replacing a number of communications pits on the path to us so should be a benefit the community as a whole. We will also be building a node in Lady Caroline Close that will make fibre available to all the residents. We felt this was important as the copper network here is failing and it will future proof our neighbourhood and give them choices. When we have an actual start date we will advise here. Thank you for your support and patience as we enter the last stage of becoming a fully independent local alternative.

14.01.2022 To block unwanted calls, register your phone on the ‘do not call register’ (https://www.donotcall.gov.au/ ). Never speak first. If it’s a recording, hang up and block the number. If it’s silent hang up and block the number. If it’s a person, ask for their company details and advise them of the $250,000 fine for calling you that you will be reporting them for. Then hang up and block the number and report them. Do not click on links saying you have won $50 with so and so. They are never real for the very same reason above and cause heartache for those closest, exposing them to the same criminals. Be smart. They rely on 5% success to operate. Let’s drop that to zero.

10.01.2022 Update- James has made some power adjustments to the sector and it seems to be working better. We will continue to monitor the system over the coming week and we will also be visiting some customers homes tomorrow to make adjustments. The relevant customers have been notified. We are aware that customers on the Merton Tower are experiencing some very slow connections. We will be upgrading the link to the sector in the next 3 weeks or as soon as the new dishes arrive. If your connection is very poor we will not charge you for the upcoming month and apologise for the inconvenience.

09.01.2022 It’s National Scam Awareness week- please be safe with your information online.

09.01.2022 Update- new adapter swapped in - everyone is back on-line. There will be a a brief outage for all customers at 2pm today as we swap in new power adapter. Apologies for the inconvenience. Should be 5 minutes tops.

09.01.2022 Apologies for the brief outage at around 1pm for customers on the Mt Kooralbyn tower. I installed a second battery to increase capacity and thought I might be able to get it done without a break in service but wasn’t quite able. The increase in battery storage will eliminate all unintended outages resulting from power issues- thank you for your patience

08.01.2022 Update - system back up at 8:20am - a power adapter at a vital link in the system decided that 2020 wasn’t quite over yet and failed. Apologies for the outage and inconvenience this morning- we’ll have the system back up shortly

08.01.2022 There will be a brief outage around midday for customers connected to the Merton Tower. We will be realigning the link which should remove random dropouts.

07.01.2022 How to help with research when playing Borderlands 3. Thought we should share if you are wondering how to help.

06.01.2022 Update- normal service resumed at 6:20pm - I apologise for the inconvenience today We are experiencing some issues with the network today- the entire team is working to resolve it as soon as possible

06.01.2022 Apologies for the brief interruptions to service tonight. We will have normal service returned shortly. Normal service resumed at 9:02pm Cause of issue- new equipment conflict

06.01.2022 Update to changing supply We’ve hit a brick wall with Telstra Wholesale supplying fibre. The option of running the fibre up Lady Caroline Close seems to have disappeared off the table. Telstra communicated via Exetel that they now expect KCB to commit to absorbing the cost of locating and repairing at least five of their pits without a quote and do not commit to running the fibre plus an upfront payment today. The ownership and responsibility for the pits is not in question,... as they are Telstra’s. The welcome Federal Government’s recent commitment to fibre to the premises at no cost on request has also raised some confusion. However we can not give Telstra a blank cheque with no guarantee so at the moment we are in contact with the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman for advice on how to proceed and have an open case ordering Telstra to repair the unsafe and damaged pits as any of us can do. We will keep you updated to any changes. See more

06.01.2022 Thank you to the customers that have waited patiently while we had orders on hold. Pleased to say that the cable we have been waiting on is leaving Perth today.

05.01.2022 I apologise for the up down connection over the past week. I am trying to stay on top of it and your feedback and patience help tremendously. We have a plan to remedy the situation with additional bandwidth and a brand new physical server within the next 6 weeks depending on how deliveries continue to be effected.

05.01.2022 There will be a brief outage at approximately 3:30pm for customers on Merton Tower only. We are installing a larger battery to stop early morning outages.

05.01.2022 Apologies to customers on the Mt Kooralbyn tower who lost connection between 2:24am and 7:08am - we had a power issue on the main tower. We will be working this morning to ensure it’s a one off.

05.01.2022 At the end of November we noticed a few customers were having semi-regular disconnections of service. Many things may be the cause, such as new tree growth, new constructions and large metal objects placed in the path of the connection. We made it a goal to stabilise these connections over the summer and we can report that after some very long afternoons in and on roofs we have achieved that goal.

04.01.2022 Update- normal service resumed 10:09pm - thank you for your patience There will be a brief outage tonight at around 10pm 13th January. 5 minutes expected. The purpose is to improve performance and customer experience. We appreciate your patience and support.

04.01.2022 As promised we are moving providers to increase the bandwidth of the service. We will be able to provide speeds of up to 200mbps. This represents a significant investment in the future of Kooralbyn. We appreciate your patience until the work is completed. As we have just entered contracts today we anticipate the switch over before the end of July. There will be no price increases although there will be new plan options for existing customers.

03.01.2022 The NBN is experiencing some significant stress currently and it is effecting the bandwidth available. We apologise to customers for this inconvenience and are working to free up as much as we can.
