11.01.2022 I just won the Double J Australian Artist of the Year J Award. It’s fantastic. Something like this means a lot to me because I’ve been doing it for a while, pla...ying music professionally and recording, and just to be recognised at all for what you do, it means you’re still contributing to society through your music. To remain relevant is a good thing. I wasn’t expecting it. You never expect any sort of awards, or winning anything like that, you just hope that what you do, people see that as a positive thing. I’m thankful because it keeps you going and gives me the idea that I must be doing something right. See more
10.01.2022 An interesting "Koori Shoutout" went to air last Tuesday night with Anne Conway. The perils of live radio!!!!! I have just come off air and something happened tonight which really is quite funny but it wrecked my program and left me a bit alarmed. I was half way through playing a Remembrance Day Tribute when all of a sudden other music and voices started playing. I looked and there was no possible source for them from the broadcast panel. I turned off my tribute but the o...ther stuff kept playing. In desperation I rang Peter Williams our Head Tech and informed him that the panel was posessed and playing strange music without my intervention. He went online and started looking for a possible cause but couldn't find it. Then it dawned on me. The new fangled hearing aids I have got are fantastic and they have a blue tooth function where phone calls etc. are played direct into my ears through the aids. I had googled something on my phone so I could announce the information. Usually when I am doing a radio program and I have headphones on I take my hearing aids out as I hear OK with the headphones. Tonight I had put the hearing aids on in preparation of clearing the path for the next presenter Eddie Ford and my phone was playing a video and that is where the voices and music was coming from - the listeners couldn't hear it - only me. The end result was that my listeners heard nothing. Peter was very kind and said he wouldn't tell anyone and I just said - no I will it is a learning curve for sure. TECHNOLOGY IS WONDERFUL AIN'T IT! 06.01.2022 Congratulations Uncle Archie Roach from everyone here at Aboriginal Victoria for being inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame and being recognised and honoured by ...industry peers for years of dedication to the music industry. Uncle Archie also won Best Male Artist and Best Adult Contemporary Album for "Tell Me Why". Did you know that Uncle Archie was inducted into the Victorian Aboriginal Honour Roll in 2011? Many Victorians may be wondering when the 2020 honour roll inductees will be announced. In consultation with Community it has been decided to postpone this year’s ceremony and honour the 2020 inductees in 2021 when we can get together again. That means there will be twice as many reasons to celebrate next year. ARIA https://bit.ly/39hTQqu See more
