17.01.2022 Today marks the 30 year anniversary of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody. Since the report was handed down and over 339 recommendations made, still we see Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lives being sadly lost in custody. Over 450 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have been lost since this day 30 years ago. Today, we call on the Victorian Government to take immediate action to implement all of the recommendations of the Royal Commission.... 30 years on and still we have not seen full and meaningful implementation of every recommendation. We have the solutions. These solutions have been written for government to implement since 1991. Action must follow and this action must take place in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. We stand in solidarity with all families and communities who have been impacted by an unjust system. We stand with our people and we will continue to do our part to take steps towards meaningful change and join the calls for systemic reform to ensure no more of our people meet tragic ends in custody.

11.01.2022 We welcome the Victorian Parliament’s decision to decriminalise public drunkenness in a long overdue, historic passing of legislation. We acknowledge and congratulate the Aboriginal community who have advocated tirelessly for this reform for decades. We wish to particularly acknowledge Aunty Tanya Day’s family, whose strong fight has left a lasting legacy which will see public drunkenness treated as a health and safety issue rather than a crime. We want to see this change b...ring justice for families of those who have tragically lost loved ones in custody. We know this is an important step towards supporting our communities and ensuring further social change. #JusticeforTanyaDay Illustration from Ngaga-dji report @Jkcomments

11.01.2022 We acknowledge the Victorian Government’s announcement with the investment of nearly $12 million in culturally specific services and programs to support Aboriginal children and young people. We’re very glad to see support for Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service - VALS to re-launch Balit Ngulu, a dedicated legal service for Aboriginal children and young people. Funding has also been announced for many community based services across the state, along with legal services, interv...ention programs, and initiatives to help steer Aboriginal young women away from the justice system and connect them with school, health and cultural supports. We’re proud to announce this funding also includes investment for KYC to lead an Aboriginal youth voice initiative to ensure Aboriginal children and young people have a voice in youth justice. This initiative will be a continuation of the Ngaga-dji project and all it stands for, with many of the commitments in this funding announcement also strongly aligning with its recommendations. We commend the Government for funding these crucial services and look forward to working with the community and young people to progress this important work. Bringing action to Aboriginal young people’s voices is at the centre of the work we do at KYC, and this investment ensures we can continue to forge meaningful change for our young mob.
