24.01.2022 Teeth whitening is the basic yet most effective cosmetic treatment choice. You can also get this treatment within a check-up and clean appointment. Any plaque or tartar is removed from your teeth before being polished or bleached to restore your teeth to natural whiteness. If you regularly drink sugary or dark liquids and chewy foods that have caused discoloration, prepare for the shade of your teeth to become lighter and brighter within hours. If you are considering teeth whitening, you can make an appointment online https://bit.ly/2X9IrCe or over the phone on (02) 6922 6840. *All treatments carry risks. Individual consultation is required with one of our practitioners to ensure that the treatment is right for you. Contact us for more information.

24.01.2022 If breakfast is your preferred time to brush, it doesn’t matter whether you do this before or after eating. However, if it is the latter, you should wait a little while afterwards 30min should be fine. Especially if your breakfast involves orange juice or anything acidic. Acidic food interacts with the enamel on your teeth, so you could be doing microscopic damage to the enamel if you brush right away. Ideally you’ll brush before breakfast. Like if you eat first OR comment if you brush first!

21.01.2022 How bad is your snoring? Whilst there is nothing harmful about simple snoring, it can be harmful to your overall health if your snoring is abnormal or obstructive. The cause of this form of snoring is sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a chronic condition where the airway is obstructed causing unusual breathing patterns including pauses and shallow breaths. This is due to a narrow airway that attempts to control forceful breathing. Some of the common symptoms of sleep apnea include:... - Uncontrollable excessive sleep during the daytime - Severe morning headaches - Negative behaviour and mood changes - Waking up with a sore or dry throat - A restless nights’ sleep - Cycles of waking up with a choking sensation When you visit Kooringal Dental, our dentist will discuss symptoms, causes, and lifestyle to determine the root cause of your snoring and sleep apnea before referring you for a treatment. *All treatments carry risks. 19.01.2022 When it comes to teaching good dental hygiene to your kids, practice what you preach. If your child regularly sees you flossing, he/she’s more likely to floss. For added fun, pretend to be a mirror the next time you and your kid brush together, and encourage them to copy your every move. We suggest regular six-monthly visits as a child’s dental health can change quite quickly and regular check-ups allow us to detect any small changes to their oral health. 18.01.2022 Dental Health Week (DHW) is an annual event run by the Australian Dental Association (ADA). The focus of this year’s campaign is on the harm sugar does to oral health. We usually think of sugar as the white granules we spoon into coffee and tea or add to baking recipes. But... Did you know sugar can be called over 50 different names, making it hard to detect on food and drink labels? Here are some common names for sugar: Agave Nectar, Brown sugar, cane juice, can sugar, casto...r sugar, coconut sugar, caramel, corn syrup, date sugar, dextrose, fructose, fruit juice, glocose, golden syrup, honey, icing sugar, malt syrup, maltodextrin, maltose, molasses, rice malt, saccharose, sucrose, treacle. These are known as hidden sugars. Teaching your kids to look out for these names on the ingredient list of nutrition information panels is a good habit when shopping. Even foods and drinks which claim to have no added or refined sugars, can contain a lot of sugar. The closer the ingredient is to the top of the ingredient list, the more of it present in the food or drink. #dentalhealthweek

14.01.2022 Why is it important to know the likely causes of tooth discolouration? Your dentist is better able to select the most appropriate treatment options for your teeth discolouration, if the cause is known. Not all over-the-counter teeth-whitening products are effective against all types of discolouration, and your dentist can advise you if one of a variety of professional lightening or whitening treatments can manage the problem.... We can also give you advice on the improvement you can expect and the duration of the treatment; a dental shade guide will be used to document the original tooth shade before starting a whitening treatment, and you will be able to see before and after results. *All treatments carry risks. Individual consultation is required with one of our practitioners to ensure that the treatment is right for you. 08.01.2022 Are Dental Implants as good as real teeth? Dental Implants are considered the best replacement for missing natural teeth. They look and feel 100% natural, and are easy to maintain. They consist of a titanium alloy post or screw that is inserted into the jawbone which can be used to support single or multiple teeth, or to stabilise complete dentures. The cosmetic and functional benefits of dental implants are countless, but the most prominent of these is the fact that they can... also protect your jawbone from thinning and degeneration. 04.01.2022 Let’s talk toothbrushes Regardless of the brush you use, try to avoid brushing with too much force as this can damage the surface of your teeth. And as for the toothpaste? You only need a pea-sized amount to get the job done. You are always best using a soft-bristled toothbrush with a small head and a flexible neck because this will most effectively remove plaque and debris from your teeth, without damaging your teeth and gums and drawing blood. ... Try to replace your brush at the first sign of wear-and-tear or every three months, whichever comes first, and if you've just had a cold, replace your toothbrush so you don’t get reinfected by the germs in the bristles. Along with replacing your toothbrush, you’ll need regular visits to your dentist to keep your mouth in tip-top condition.
