23.01.2022 SEVERE STORMS FOR MONDAY - Bureau of Meteorology Yesterday storms were quieter than forecast due to the atmosphere being worked over on Saturday and as a r...esult, the severe storm outbreak didn’t occur. Today, storms will be more active and already in progress in southern parts of the state. The yellow and red shadings shown below show a measurement of the potential energy combined with atmospheric dynamics to show storm potency if storms were to form in the region. Some storms are likely to become severe today with large hail, damaging winds and heavy rainfall all possible. Specific warnings will be issued. - Karl Lijnders Register now to receive SMS alerts when severe storms may impact you. www.nswincidentalerts.com For Emergency help, call #NSWSES on 132 500.

22.01.2022 Recent rain has resulted in good growth across much of NSW. While this is welcome, it does bring with it the risk of grass fires. This weekend we want everybody to consider what they can do to reduce their fire risk. Now is the time to ‘Get Ready’ for the fire season.
22.01.2022 A heads up for everyone travelling along the highway.
22.01.2022 Ever wondered how fast a grass fire can move? With the @Bureau of Meteorology predicting a warm and wet spring there is likely to be good grass and crop growth across NSW. With this growth will come the increased risk of grass fires. Maintain your property, be prepared and have a plan.
22.01.2022 It’s going to warm up over the next few days. Higher temperatures are likely to see higher Fire Danger Ratings so we ask everyone to be vigilant and have their Bushfire Survival Plans ready. The forecasted weather can also pose a health danger. Please remain hydrated, keep out of the heat as much as possible and keep an eye on the elderly and vulnerable.

16.01.2022 Kootingal RFS team has proved to be the most committed and successful NSW RFS team in Firefighter Championship competition. From their first Zone Championship a...t Bourke on a wet weekend in 2005, they have gained great respect for their dedication and achievements leading to their winning of the Australasian Championships in 2019. Of the ten-team events at Tamworth, Kootingal had four firsts, a second, a fourth and a fifth, undoubtedly the best performing team. The last five State Championships have seen the team finish fourth overall twice, a third and runner up to the top FRNSW teams in 2016 and 2018 outstanding results. Without a FRNSW appliance to train on the team have installed a training track with lights, their results in the hose and hydrant events in State Championships proof of their efforts. Hose & Hydrant 2 Competitors 4 firsts and 2 seconds in just 6 outings, with several wins and places in the 3 and 4 competitor events. The team has seen many changes in personnel over the last 15 years, Kendall Thompson the only original member. Kendall gained international recognition for his role in the RFS rescue operations in Lockyer Valley floods in 2011. Operating as a helicopter down-the-wire winchman, he was involved in rescuing 40+ people, for which he was awarded the RFS Commissioner’s Award for Valour and the Benjamin Franklin International Award for Valor (US spelling), the award’s first Australian recipient and just the third time to be awarded outside North America. We all look forward to competing with Kootingal RFS at the first Championship of 2021! Take care and we’ll see you on the track! #FireChamps #Kootingal #Moonbi #RFS #FRNSW
15.01.2022 Yesterday‘s Santa/ Lolly run was a bigger success than we ever imagined it would be!! The brigade would like to thank everyone who came out and helped spread a little bit of Christmas cheer. We would also like to thank Peter Summers and the IGA team for the generous donation of lollipops at such short notice! Without them we would not have been able to run the event so successfully and we encourage everyone to shop local and support them so that they can continue supporting community organisations like ours. Due to the community turnout for this years Santa run, an event we have not run for quite some time, we will certainly be continuing this into the future. The Kootingal/Moonbi RFS brigade hope you all have a safe and merry Christmas. Photos credit: Jim Crosbie

04.01.2022 Every year we receive calls to fires which end up being pile burns that aren’t properly notified. While permits aren’t needed yet it is still a requirement to notify neighbours and the RFS of an intention to burn 24hrs prior to lighting. Here’s a very handy video put together by our colleagues at Hornsby/Ku-Ring-Gai district. https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=iirifvKlvKY
