20.01.2022 AYCC has been in touch with Kooyong Climate Change Alliance and we are supporting and publicising this rather than doing our own rally. Please come along, wear KVC t-shirts if you have them (we'll have some there too), and make your own No Gas placards - get inventive!

19.01.2022 Gas is a dirty fuel, and the government's proposed gas expansion risks irreversible damage to our water, forests, health and future. We should be moving forward... with clean renewables and electrification. #ProtectOurFutureNotGas. 17.01.2022 Youth XR are really pushing boundaries with their tripod action, holding King St on Friday morning, and focussing energy in a street party for climate action. Want to have some fun and step up? Let's celebrate #extinctionrebellion's big week with Discobedience - starting Carlton Gardens at 10am, for some serious fun. https://www.facebook.com/events/1400120046990406/

17.01.2022 Why should Rupert steal our planet's future to profit large megacorps and fossil advertisers? Rudd and Turnbull call him out as the planet's most effective climate denier. Its time to resist and take back our democracy. Tell the truth! https://extinctionrebellion.uk/the-truth/ Don't miss XR Vic's grand finale - 10 am Carlton Gardens - Discobedience returns to Melbourne! https://www.facebook.com/events/1400120046990406

16.01.2022 Gas industry will be hoist on its own petard (look it up, funny). From this article: AGL, a company synonymous with gas, now says it is cheaper to heat your ho...me and hot water with more efficient air conditioners and heat pumps. The AGL website also states that heat pumps are safer for Victorians to use. With heat pumps, you don’t need to worry about house fires or filling your home with dangerous fumes, unlike some gas heaters. To save money and improve safety, a home can swap out its cooking needs for an induction cooktop and get off the gas entirely, a solution the Victorian government should really canvas if its serious about its net-zero commitment. Vic. gov has gone part of the way in the budget - time to ramp it up, girls and boys!

15.01.2022 Well, Adani tries to sneak under our radar by setting up a coal haulage business on the QT. Sprung, Guatam! Will cost him heaps more, and gives us another mole ...to whack. Fun times, he is on a losing path. Says coal out next year. Has been saying that (well, within 2 years) for more than ten years! Stubborn, but we are winning. No concession of defeat by him just costs him more on the downward spiral to ignominy. Coal-lovers are losers all, but it takes time and determination. Time is shortening but our determination has never been stronger. See more

14.01.2022 Targets and Tariffs: Australia on the World Stage. It looks like we will be overtaken by the growing pressure on climate from US, China and EU. Find out more from experts, CANA's Glen Klaotvsky and TAI's Richie Merzian. April 28, 7pm. RSVP: https://lighterfootprints.org/event/targets-tariffs/

13.01.2022 Gas is a dirty fuel, we have superior alternatives and can move our houses to cheaper electric heating and cooling. New gas will damage our environment and climate and waste billions of public funds. 12.01.2022 Sign this and support our Climate action allies in Nillumbik (Eltham etc.) to get a Climate Emergency Declaration from their Shire Council. This mob (NCEAT) are the best.

11.01.2022 This is a big worry still, especially re the EPBC Act being maybe given to the States to do their worst with. From this article, which is a great deep dive (from the Oz, go figure!) into VicGov's idiocy contracting long-term to Japanese paper manufacturers who own what used to be the APM Maryvale Mill, and VicForest's trashing of the environment: "The Federal Court decision came as a huge shock to the Victorian Government as it struggles to string out the industry another 10... years. In response it said it would review the timber code of practice, an announcement welcomed by the timber industry but regarded with deep suspicion by conservationists. The Weekend Australian Magazine understands that to prevent further legal challenges, the Victorian Government is looking at options to remove the precautionary principle and third-party rights to sue. Hampton is pushing for any changes that will serve to restore the separation between RFAs and the EPBC Act and stop the lawfare. We’d like to go back to what everyone understood the agreement was, which is that the EPBC Act isn’t involved because the RFAs are managed at a state level. Legislative changes to the EPBC Act now working their way through federal parliament may help grant his wish, as the Federal Government seeks to further devolve environmental assessments of all major projects to the states.' 06.01.2022 Hey Fed and Vic Libs, could be an issue trying to gag your right-wing extreme geese if they also comprise a good slab of your party membership.

06.01.2022 We need to move away from polluting fossil gas in our homes. Energy engineer Tim Forcey in The Conversaton: the money that householders can save when economically fuel-switching from gas to electricity can amount to hundreds and even over a thousand dollars per year". Heat pumps are 600% efficient, moving heat from hot areas to cool areas. https://theconversation.com/the-cheapest-way-to-heat-your-h

05.01.2022 From here "As one former Liberal staffer says (about Fed Parl Lib staffers, or it could be other parties too, unclear from the context): They’re made up of hacks, stacks and freaks. There are very few normal people in the lower level of party branches. People who are normal have families and have to take kids to soccer and have real jobs." It looks like a problem that arises when there is too much emphasis on Parl staffers and too many of them, plus a recruitment system that is party-based when parties have shrunk dramatically - generally, the hyper-politicisation of government and the crushing of the "without fear or favour" role of the public service.

04.01.2022 Yes, true, we need way better public transport and EVs still have pollution issues with tyres and brakes but REALLY? Make if MORE expensive to have one? Climate idiocy! FFS, replace the fuel excise with road user charges on ALL vehicles EXCEPT EVs. We have the technology. Oh wait, Lindsay Fox would not like that passing him - the truck lobby rules! - never mind, we'll all just cook regardless I suppose. (sigh). PLEASE sign the petition anyway; if governments get enough pressure even Lindsay can be defeated. After all, it might happen to the Ancient Lizard Murdoch because of a petition.

04.01.2022 Augus Taylor must be spitting chips! After all night One Nation filibustering, 12GW of clean energy and 2 GW of battery storage in NSW passed with "near-unanimo...us parliamentary support" from the Coalition, Labor opposition, the Greens and crossbenchers. Victoria has just announced $543m for 6 renewable energy zones, including $1.6bn clean energy committment. AGL announced a large scale battery next to Loy Yang A, joining announcements in Geelong and Adelaide. https://www.theguardian.com//nsws-clean-energy-plan-means- See more
