22.01.2022 "The white porcelains, photographed by Koo Bohnchang, are bold yet delicate, familiar yet distant. The faint gleam of white evokes the memory of seeing my mother coming back from town at dusk, attired in her white Korean dress. ... Koo’s white porcelains seem to have revealed their true, inner selves only to this master, for the filmed images look nothing like the actual objects or the images produced by other photographers. It is not hard to conjecture that he must hav...e spent many backbreaking, grueling hours, waiting with anxiety until finally the porcelains spoke to him." - An excerpt from 'In praise of #baekja (white porcelain)' by novelist Park Wansuh One month left to see , the renowned photographer Koo Bohnchang's first solo exhibition in Australia. 21.01.2022 ICYMI: Author Cho Nam-joo’s greetings delivered during our November Book Club last week with Dr. Jane Park and Michaela Kalowski It has been five years since I wrote Kim Ji-young, Born 1982. It was written during the autumn and winter of 2015 and published in autumn 2016. Since then, three more books of mine have been released, so to me this is a book that seems to dwell in the past. Still, since its publication, I have had numerous occasions to think and speak about Kim Ji-...young. In particular, since the publication of its translations, I have had many opportunities to be interviewed by foreign media and write articles about the book for overseas readers. This makes me wonder what remains of my thoughts, my life, and the world around me when I wrote this novel. There were times when it seemed everything was changing, when I was stuck and even when my life went backwards for a while. Actually, I remain a sceptical person, but knowing that there are people who are reading this novel in my city and elsewhere gives me strength. My book is braver than I am. I hope it will travel to places I have not been able to. I hope it will give courage to my readers. Translated by Jamie Chang, international best-selling novel Kim Ji-young, Born 1982 is available in English.
