25.01.2022 PROFESSIONAL DISTANCE I was talking about moments like this with a couple earlier this week. When feelings build up to the point where they just can't be contained and emotion spills over. Here's the thing: you'll never, ever see me reaching to comfort someone when this happens. ... Why? Because you don't need consoling. You're not crying because you're sad. You're crying because your feelings are so powerful they need a physical outlet. You're crying because you're joyful. You're crying because what you're doing means so much to you. There are few events that bring on the reactions that a wedding does, so FEEL the feelings. Embrace the tears and the goosebumps; the caught breaths and the shaky voices. Capture how this moment feels in both your head and your heart. I'll be nearby if you need me, but I'll always, always let you have this moment to yourselves. 22.01.2022 Pure romance. I can't get enough of the images from Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi's wedding. They're utterly breathtaking and the love in them is almost tactile. The thing I keep coming back to is the fact that Beatrice's gown and tiara belong to her grandmother. That the tiara was worn at her grandmother's own wedding is especially significant. ... The symbolism of that gesture. Of wearing something that belongs to someone you love dearly and who has loved you your entire life. Someone without whom you would not exist. Someone who has been married for 72 years. The gesture is so beautiful that the fact both items are stunning (and belong to the Queen) is secondary to me. For me, the true beauty of Beatrice's wedding outfit lies in what her choices put front and centre - the bonds of love and family. It's what weddings are all about. 21.01.2022 The overnight release of pictures from the wedding of Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi has put such a smile on my face. There's a real romance to them and you can feel the happy couple's joy radiating from their faces. The pair married on Friday in an intimate ceremony conducted in line with current British Coronavirus restrictions. The bride's grandparents, Her Majesty The Queen and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, were in attendance (see second photo) along ...with other close family members. In a touching tribute to family, Beatrice borrowed her gown and tiara from her grandmother. Atop her head sat the Queen Mary diamond fringe tiara, which the Queen wore on her own wedding day in 1947. Beatrice donned a Peau de Soie taffeta gown by Norman Hartnell. The diamanté encrusted dress, which has organza sleeves and a geometric checkered bodice, was remodelled and fitted for Princess Beatrice by Angela Kelly and Stewart Parvin. It was first worn by the Queen for a 1961 state dinner in Rome and then again to the premiere of Laurence of Arabia in 1962. Swipe for a photo of the Queen in it; you can see some of the fullness has been taken out of the skirt. I find this first photo in particular especially beautiful. The newlywed couple, beaming with happiness, peer out from the chapel door, decorated wondrously by @rvhfloraldesign in pale pink flowers. There is simply no hiding their joy and that is exactly as it should be for every couple on their wedding day. I'm so glad they got their special day amidst all the chaos of the moment. (And is it just me, or does the expression on Beatrice's face look so much like her Mum, Sarah, Duchess of York?) Photos 1 and 2 by @benjaminwheeler via @theroyalfamily See more

21.01.2022 A moment in time. I can't overstate the value of good photography when it comes to capturing and preserving memories of a special time in your life. In the early days of parenthood, when you're sleep-deprived and adjusting to your new normal, it's easy to think that life is always going to be like this. Busy and slow and exhausting and inspiring and emotional and wonderful, often all at the same time. ... I won't forget this, I thought. But I knew I would, just as we all do when the next stage of life kicks in. That's why my husband and I asked my friend and colleague @tessfollett_families to spend a morning with us shortly after our son was born last year. As we drank coffee, played with our toddler, rocked our newborn to sleep and just went about daily life, Tess recorded a period in time for us that was over all too fleetingly. It has only been a year since Tess took these photos for us but they feel like another time entirely. One when we could put our son on the floor and know he'd stay exactly where we left him. One when our daughter was still trying to master hopping on one foot. One when we could only dream of sleeping for longer than 3 hours at a time. In a single glance at Tess's images, we're transported back to that time and all the wonder, love and joy it entailed. I'm so glad we have them. Now the legend behind the lens, Tess Follett, is giving away a FREE family portrait session for redemption this October. To find out more and go in the draw to make some memories of your own, head to @tessfollett_families. You have until 6 September! #tessfollettfamilies See more

19.01.2022 I'm not going to pretend everything is hunky-dory, because it isn't. I've been in my own little bubble the last few days processing what the spike in cases means for my family, our health and my business. It's unnerving and confusing and if I'm totally honest I haven't quite made sense of it or how I feel. I know couples are distressed and hurting, their hearts aching because they've had to postpone their wedding or the wedding they're having is not the one they had imagi...ned. But I can promise you this: someday, this period of our lives and all the sacrifices that go with it will be nothing but a memory. And I can also promise this to all of my couples: your wedding, no matter how you choose to celebrate it, will still be meaningful, moving and memorable. It's my personal mission to make it so. If you're worried about your wedding plans or just want to talk through options, please feel free to get in touch. I'm not a fan of clichés but we really are all in this together. Similarly, to my industry colleagues, I know so many are hurting right now. Let me know if you need a chat or a virtual hug. I can't wait to be back doing this, smiling and sharing the love like I did here with Pauline and Stephen. They had to put up with a lot of stress and changes to their wedding plans thanks to the ever-evolving circumstances of the last year, but through it all their focus never wavered. 17.01.2022 Im pretty sure that if I asked my daughter - or any little girl, for that matter - what a princess bride looked like, her answer would be HRH Princess Beatrice on wedding day. Romantic, pretty and feminine, with one incredible tiara to boot. This photo of the princess and her groom, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, is one for the ages. ... 16.01.2022 TEN I looked at the calendar today and realised that earlier this week, I marked ten years as an authorised marriage celebrant. Ten! A decade! At first I couldn't believe I'd let the date pass me by. 2010 Koren was adamant it was a date she'd never forget. (After all, it was the highlight of my celebrant career back then).... And while back in 2010 I knew there were great experiences to come - ones that would truly eclipse the excitement of being authorised - I couldn't have imagined how amazing they'd be, or how much they'd enrich my life. Experiences like conducting the wedding of my sister, of dear friends and of beautiful people who became my friends. Like celebrating weddings in German, including and delighting family members who had thought that their child's wedding would be linguistically inaccessible to them. Getting to know, work with and receive support from seriously talented, generous people who live to make the dreams of couples come true; people who would go from being colleagues to my friends and trusted confidants. When I started, I knew I'd love being a celebrant but had no idea how much. Ten years on, I know this love still has room to grow, because if being a celebrant has taught me anything, it's that I'll forever be learning. Forever amazed by the wonders of love and relationships. And forever grateful to have a role that reminds me of what's most important - not what you have in your life, but who. Thank you to each and every one of you that has been part of it along the way. Photo @benswinnertonweddings Flowers @flowerjar See more

16.01.2022 These two I first met Sanela and Steve a year before their March wedding. We hit it off from the very beginning, talking about travel, food, love and life. Each time we met I felt like we could have stayed sitting at that table for hours, talking about everything and nothing and having a great time doing so. The two of them are the ultimate triple threat: gorgeous, intelligent and kind. I think it would be impossible to be around them and not want to be their friend.... One of the best parts of being a celebrant is getting to meet people like Steve and Sanela. Getting to know them, forming a friendship with them and being trusted to stand with them and tell their story on one of the most important days of their lives. And seeing this: their sheer, unbridled elation afterwards, when happiness beams out of every part of them. Steve and Sanela, your joy made the air around you that day hum with an excitement so contagious that I can feel it just looking at this photo. Thank you for letting me share in it. 15.01.2022 Overseas holidays seem like a foreign concept to those of us in Melbourne right now but recently my husband and I went on a little jaunt to France thanks to @entrecotemelbourne. My husband LOVES a good steak so our kids gave him Entrecôte at Home as a Fathers Day present. Once our little ones were in bed, we put on some French tunes, lit a candle and pretended we were in Paris as we enjoyed a mouthwatering meal.... The tv stayed off, the kids stayed in bed and we stayed at the table for three hours, talking and lingering over our meal just as we would in a restaurant. We went to bed feeling fulfilled and rested, having had a night of indulgence without having to put on our shoes. We may not have been able to dine in Entrecôtes beautifully appointed surrounds but it was the next best thing - and highly recommended. Again, this isnt sponsored in any way. I just want to highlight local businesses doing a smashing job of lifting spirits. You can pick up your Entrecôte at Home pack if you live within 5km of South Yarra or have it delivered via @providoor. Go! Indulge! 15.01.2022 Regardless of how many times you've worn a ring in the past, there's something about the giving and receiving of a wedding ring. The simple, everyday act of lacing a finger through a circle is suddenly imbued with so much significance. The words that are said as it slides into place.... The promises that are made, the love that is honoured and the commitment that is witnessed. Through the simple act of giving and receiving, this little band of precious metal becomes a priceless treasure. Not because of what it is, but because of what it represents. 15.01.2022 Hi Koren, Thank you so much for the beautiful ceremony you conducted for us at Coombe Estate last month. While it wasn't what we originally planned for the day due to the COVID-19 restrictions, we couldn't be happier with our very last minute decision to proceed and the warmth and intimacy that a 12 guest wedding created. What a memory to hold onto and tell our kids and grandkids about one day. You worked closely with us in the few short weeks beforehand to quickly pull tog...ether all the new details and your calm demeanour on the day was just what I needed during my pre-ceremony fluster! You took care of so many extra little things like greeting our guests on arrival, the buttonholes, making sure I had a drink and then later holding my drink, helping to decipher the surprise cake gender reveal 'how-to-cut' situation (!), and so much more. We also appreciate how you continually involved all of the guests watching on the live stream. Everyone has been raving about it with comments such as, "THE BEST CEREMONY EVER!" and "THE FANCIEST SHOTGUN WEDDING THIS PANDEMIC HAS EVER SEEN!" Thank you so much for being the kind, warm and generous person you are, and for bringing these qualities to our wedding ceremony. It was just perfect. What a wonderful way to start our next chapter as husband and wife. We can't wait to return to Coombe with you next year, along with all our guests and our new baby girl, for our big postponed wedding/renewal-of-vows day. 14.01.2022 When Pauline and Stephen married, they asked their beloved Mums to be their witnesses. I still can't think of this moment without getting a little emotional. There's a beautiful symbolism in having the signature of the person who has loved you longest alongside that of the one who is going to love you for the rest of your days. 14.01.2022 A little while ago I was talking to an industry colleague about social media. I mentioned that I don't post a lot about myself; my reasoning being that as a celebrant, my work is never (nor should it be) about me. I tell other people's stories; I do not star in them. 10.01.2022 LOVE IS NOT CANCELLED. Given we currently have no concrete idea of when you can celebrate with all of your loved ones, trying to set a date and book in suppliers can seem a little daunting. But it doesn't have to be. ... I, like so many of my fabulous industry colleagues, am working with couples to help them get married in the way that feels right for them. It may be a small, intimate wedding now with a big vow renewal sometime next year. It may be a micro wedding, with just you and your nearest and dearest present (hi, Princess Beatrice!). It may be a wedding in the coming months with a small physical guest list and a large virtual one. It may be postponing the celebrations entirely until all of your loved ones can attend. We've faced so many challenges over the last few months and likely still have a few ahead of us, but one thing is not going to change. Your love for each other - the very reason you're having a wedding. Well worth celebrating, if you ask me. If you're looking to get married in the next 12 months, please get in touch with vendors ASAP to ensure you have your dream team. Peak season dates disappear quickly and with dozens of 2020 couples rescheduling, they're going faster than ever. 09.01.2022 The warmth and light of weddings. Oh, how I've missed them. I've always been acutely aware of how lucky I am to have the job I do, but never more so than these past few months when for a period, weddings were legally prevented from occurring. Being forced to reschedule was something that many couples understandably grieved over, because a wedding isn't just a big party - it is a deeply transformative event. ... The institution of marriage has existed in some way or another for most of human civilisation. It has endured for so long because throughout history and across cultures, people have recognised the importance of loving and being loved. Of telling your partner, your families and the world at large that THIS is your person. Of entering your love and regard for one another into the pages of history. A wedding is a powerful, personal and affirming moment in time and I'm so glad that couples across Victoria can experience it for themselves again - and soon with even more guests in attendance! It's so good to be back. 08.01.2022 My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary this week. We had planned to go out for a fancy dinner to mark the occasion. I'd been looking forward to dressing up, doing my hair and make-up (the NOVELTY!), using real linen and eating later than 6pm. ... As parents of two small children, most appealing was the idea of having our first dinner out, just the two of us, in more than a year. But COVID-19 changed all that. Instead of a candlelit meal in a French restaurant, we celebrated our anniversary with a 6pm family dinner of takeaway pizza. We wore our comfortable iso-uniforms of jeans and jumpers; our plates rested on plastic placemats emblazoned with farm animals. It was noisy and messy and chaotic. It was nothing like the sophisticated evening I'd envisaged a month ago. And yet it was wonderful, because it was about *what* we were celebrating, not how. This noisy, messy, chaotic, beautiful life we share. Standing in the kitchen after we'd put the kids to bed, my husband pulled me in for a hug and whispered in my ear. 'We're so lucky.' We are. I am. 07.01.2022 Small business shout-out! Allow me to introduce you to @morso.food. I first met David (the brains behind Morso) at a party several years ago. I remember finding his passion for good food contagious and I walked away from our first encounter excited to get into the kitchen (no mean feat - I am NOT a natural cook). I've been following David's work ever since and have become a big fan of his fad-free, seasonal and flavour-driven approach to cooking. ... We've recently celebrated a few special occasions in my house and given that dining out is off the table, my husband and I have marked each event by ordering a Morso @ home package. Think the perfect sourdough focaccia, carefully selected salumi, handmade pastas, melt-in-your-mouth mains and desserts that are just the right amount of indulgent. It's like a little trip to Italy without leaving your home. I can't recommend Morso enough. If you're looking to liven up lockdown - for yourself or someone else - check out this week's menu by going to the @morso.food profile. And for those of you planning events in the future, bear in mind that Morso does private catering - just imagine the delights you could enjoy for a wedding feast! (Is it rude to ask you to set a place for me at the table?) *This isn't an ad or sponsored in any way. I'm not going to write about how tough things are for small business right now (we all know), but I do want to try to highlight small businesses that I like supporting. I'd love to hear some of your favourites, too! #smallbusinessshoutout #eatwell #morsofood #weddingplanning #weddingfood #yumyum #korenharveyrecommends

06.01.2022 Kids say the darndest things.... One of the reasons I love involving kids in weddings is their unpredictability. Will they walk down the aisle as planned? ... Who knows. Will they say or do something nobody saw coming? Perhaps. Will they create moments of real, spontaneous joy? Absolutely. If you have little people in your life that you want to involve in your wedding day, don't hold back out of a fear that things won't go perfectly to plan. Kids bring a tangible realness to a wedding, the sort that comes from feeling big feelings, smiling big smiles and expressing a genuine love for the people involved. Their honest reactions to what's going on around them can make for some of the most memorable moments of your day, as Claire and Jarryd learned here thanks to an honest, well-timed (and frankly hilarious) comment from Claire's niece! (Claire, Jarryd, I'll leave it up to you as to whether I share what it was!). 06.01.2022 Flashback to 1976, when King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and Silvia Sommerlath entered their wedding ceremony together. This may not seem radical to those of us who've grown up in Australia or other English-speaking countries, but this long-held Swedish custom symbolises the fact that the couple enter their marriage as equals. That symbolism carries even more weight when one of you is the reigning King, if you ask me! So entrenched is the tradition that it's reported that m...embers of the Swedish clergy actively advise against a party to the marriage (usually a bride) being 'given away'. This was the case in 2010 when the King and Queen's daughter, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, asked her father to escort her partway down the aisle at her own wedding. It was so unheard of that Archbishop Anders Wejryd, head of the Swedish Church, went on the record to state his disapproval of the "Anglo-Saxon practice". In a statement he said "being given away is a new phenomenon which occasionally occurs in the Church of Sweden. I usually advise against it, as our marriage ceremony is so clear on the subject of the spouses' equality. The couple know where I stand on the matter." Personally, I think entering together is a brilliant approach and oh-so-Swedish in its egalitarianism. What do you think? Would you/did you go Swedish for your entrance? PS - did anyone else think for a second that was Helena Bonham Carter over the King's shoulder? #weddingtraditions #swedishroyalwedding #royalweddings #downtheaisle #aislestyle #weddingideas #melbourneweddings #melbournebride #melbournegroom #equallywed #melbournemarriagecelebrant #marriagecelebrantmelbourne #weddingcelebrant #melbournecelebrant #korenharveyweddings See more

05.01.2022 There's so much going on here and I love it. I'm deep in story-telling mode and judging by the looks on the faces of David's groomsmen, we've hit a funny point (possibly at David's expense - sorry, David). Nadya's bridesmaid, Dee, is making sure the wind does not relocate Nadya's veil from her head. ... Nadya, serene and elated, can't help but beam with happiness. And through it all, David is gazing at Nadya with a look of love so fierce it could inspire poetry. This is what I miss. The beauty, the chaos, the spontaneity and the wonder of weddings. It's a strange time at the moment but we're hopefully nearly through it. And while we may not have weddings at the moment, we'll always have love. Always love. And love, always. 05.01.2022 Just before our current COVID-related restrictions were imposed, I made a trip out to the Yarra Valley to marry Jimmy and Corinne. Their original wedding plans had been curtailed by the virus but after a bit of soul-searching they decided not to let it get in the way of them being married. On a crisp winter's morning they became husband and wife surrounded by 12 of their nearest and dearest, with the rest of their loved ones watching via ...a livestream. It was obviously very different from what they had originally planned but no less moving or special. It was intimate. It was warm. We laughed, a lot. It was heartfelt and authentic and inspiring, all of the things a wedding should be. I can't wait to journey back to that grand old oak tree with them - and all of their guests - next year for one hell of a vow renewal. If what we experienced three weeks ago was any indication, it's going to be a ripper! 03.01.2022 This photo was taken at the last wedding I celebrated before Melbourne first went into lockdown, way back in March. It feels like years ago. I'm not going to prattle on (too much) about what this year has meant - if you're reading this, you've lived through it yourself. Everyone's experience has been different. ... Some have sailed through it and even enjoyed parts of it*. For others, it has been a time of heartbreak and confusion. And for many, the experience of 2020 lies somewhere between the two extremes - moments of joy, levity and learning mixed with hardship, sadness and disappointment. I'm so proud of what the people of Australia, and especially Victoria, have achieved this year. We did the hard things - and we did them for each other. Thank you all, whether my colleagues, my couples, friends and family or people I only know through the magic of social media, for sharing in this year with me. While we may have been apart, you made me feel that I was never alone. Whatever 2020 has brought you, I hope 2021 brings you good health, good humour, companionship and contentment. See you next year. *I'm not going to lie, my kids, husband and I VERY MUCH appreciated my increased baking output - perhaps too much, if the moratorium my husband put on biscuit production in week 4 is any indication.
