14.01.2022 What a beautiful experience celebrating these Artists AT LAST! I was almost as proud of them as they were of themselves. The work looked beautiful, the communit...y spirit was so strong and the Kororoit Creek Neighbourhood House the perfect venue. Continuing on from their workshop power play action, the kids again pushed themselves well beyond their comfort zones. Additionally to expressing their inner selves to a largely unfamiliar audience, they wrote highly personal speeches communicating their TGIM experiences, either read by me or (voluntarily, I promise!) self-delivered. Thank you so much to everyone that came to honor these amazing Creatives, for giving the event such a warm atmosphere and making it a true community celebration. And to many of you for your incredibly kind and spontaneous help, which was both extremely handy and impactful Thanks especially to Gini Mini, Linda Pollard, Jacinta Tes, Dom Sigillo, Gaby Georges (very much there in spirit), Mary Quinsacara, Tracy Shih, Shunli Xian, Brad and Leyla Hewitt, Paras Xulfiqar, Simon Conlon (working his butt off in spirit), Joanna Caravan and Tash Eliza, Rupert Hopwood and La Niña Tess Kaufman-Hopwood, for your help in getting it all up and running (within a window of time that gave me a heart attack), and for helping to keep it running as beautifully as we’d hoped to. Huge thanks to the Kororoit Creek Neighbourhood House for believing in the project and taking on the role of Auspice, and specifically to Bec Smith for your invaluable and generous support, both practical and buoying from the onset. Thanks to the Brimbank City Council for your belief and financial investment in the TGIM Artists, without which this experience of creative and personal growth, and it’s public demonstration, would not have been made available to them. Or, for that matter, to their appreciative audience. Separate thanks to the Brimbank Neighbourhood Houses and Community Centres Unit, specifically Liss Gabb and Mary Quinsacara for your practical and material support, as well as your ongoing invaluable advice. And to Westvale Community Centre for your kind provision of shade (we had sun!). Thanks also to Councillors Thuy Dang and Maria Kerr for your enthusiasm in joining our celebration (it was so lovely to have you!), and for your keen interest in extending the project to provide for more Brimbank Communities. Huge gratitude to Karimi Karagania (www.beautyandalens.com) for capturing the innate force and beauty of the kids in images eloquent enough to demand their own exhibition space (stay tuned on the page for their posting). Also much appreciation towards Albion Primary School and St Theresa’s Primary School for their continued support in connecting our local community members, and for the great pleasure of seeing the kids gripping that Albion PS mic to have their voices heard as well as seen and felt! Kororoit Creek Neighbourhood House, Brimbank City Council, Brimbank Neighbourhood Houses and Community Centres, Bec Sniff, Que Rator, Liss Gabb, Gabriela Georges, Joanna Caravan, Cr Thuy Dang, Paras Xulfiqar, Laxmi Nalamala, Jacinta Tes, Averil Robertson, Diane Hanmer, St Albans Primary School, Brimbank Libraries, Westvale Community Centre, apologies to the many un-taggables... And shout out to the materials heaven that is Reverse Art Truck

The tempestry project is a global climate data visualisation project using fibre art to capture the changing climate of places over time. The project saw five volunteers create tempestries (or temperature tapestries) that represent Brimbank’s climate at five-year intervals covering the period from 1949 to 2019, as well as capturing the projections for our climate in 2050 and 2090.... The works will be on display throughout April before moving to other locations in Brimbank. This project was supported by Brimbank City Council.
