25.01.2022 As you may have seen on our Instagram stories, on Thursday 6 August, we had 26 students from Year 7 and 8 compete in the Write A Book In A Day competition which is run by the The Kids Cancer Project. They worked virtually in teams to write and illustrate a 4000 5000 word book, which will be donated to children in hospitals. Well done girls!

25.01.2022 Congratulations to Jemima Parton on signing the National Letter of Intent (NLI) for her recruitment and scholarship to Southern Methodist University. Jemima will join the SMU Mustangs rowing crew in August 2021. The NLI signals Jemima's transition to the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 1 as a student-athlete, to continue her passion for rowing and at the same time pursue Business Management. Jemima has special thanks for Coach Jane Robinson for her wonderful support and guidance, as well as the tremendous support and development provided by Korowa's Rowing Program.

With the help of teachers and students, Jessica has settled into Korowa and is excited about hopefully being back on campus later in the year.

19.01.2022 We are incredibly proud of our students Maya Gregory, Madhumitha Mallichetty, Zara Shaikh, Simrah Shaikh and Caroline Filiex who have been part of this incredible project. Together they have produced three episodes, each focusing on different groups and communities affected by youth homelessness people who identify as LGBTIQ+, First Nations Australians, and young people who have experienced family violence. Each episode uses a mixture of lived experience experts (youth wh...o have experienced homelessness due to these reasons/from these backgrounds) and an expert. The podcast is about their stories and why so many people from these groups face homelessness. Episode 1, Family Violence and Youth Homelessness produced by our students will be released today.

18.01.2022 Students in Year 8 are studying the novel The Outsiders this term. While this would usually be a collaborative activity in class, during Distance Learning students have had the option to annotate their novels independently, in a small group or with teacher assistance as they worked from a scaffold on OneNote. The girls have had a lot of fun colour coding the themes, making inferences and finding figurative meaning within the text. As you can see, students in 8B have even customised their backgrounds and put their faces on the characters from The Outsiders, really immersing themselves in the experience.

18.01.2022 Since late 2018, through close engagement with University of Melbourne experts, a group of staff have been learning about the role and construction of micro-credentials. In 2019, a working party developed the Learner Attributes, a set of capabilities founded upon the PR6 wellbeing framework which incorporates the elements of micro-credentials. Despite the challenges of COVID-19, Korowa is continuing to build a dynamic and innovative suite of micro-credentials for both students and staff to undertake in the future. Last week staff worked with Dr Jason Pietzner from Melbourne University to further refine and deepen their understanding.

16.01.2022 Congratulations to our 2021 School Captains Annai Hally and Matilda Baird. Both girls have demonstrated that they have the skills and a clear vision for how they will lead in 2021. For Annai, her vision for 2021 is to lead Korowa out of a very challenging time, she wants to provide confidence and hope for every girl as we move into a new year. She recognises that a good leader is motivated to find new ways of looking at the world and help improve the situations of their... peers. Matilda stated, I envision that I would continue to strengthen the positive and inclusive environment that currently exists within Korowa. I believe communication between the Junior and Senior School could be improved and to strengthen that a greater level of collaboration is something I would strive to achieve as a 2021 Captain. We congratulate these girls on these important 2021 leadership roles.

10.01.2022 Cripps Community Days run every term and are designed to provide the students with an opportunity to connect with their peers, develop teamwork skills and to explore important concepts and ideas. The focus of todays session was around developing the students skills and habits that support their own wellbeing. They learnt about the importance of establishing good sleep routines, nutrition and healthy eating, staying safe online and using social media in constructive ways. Here are some photos from the day of students making masks as part of a positive project, preparing a healthy snack and pledging how they will use social media moving forward.

10.01.2022 Community Activist, proud Korovian and inspiration to us all! Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Mary Drost OAM (McMahon, Class of 1949) has continued her activism in trying to protect Victorias built heritage. Mary began her community involvement in 1982 when she was elected to Camberwell Council. In 2000, she successfully campaigned to save the historic Camberwell Station from re-development and ever since has advocated for better planning laws and heritage protection across Melbourne. Mary was awarded an OAM in 2009 for her service to the community. Marys most recent campaign is focused on preserving a fine example of modernist architecture designed by the late Robin Boyd. Mary really personifies Korowas motto - No reward without effort! https://www.theage.com.au//heritage-row-erupts-as-early-ro

06.01.2022 During this time of isolation, the Cripps girls have been highly creative in finding interesting ways to explore and devise choreography. With everyone dancing in their own homes, we had to think imaginatively about how they could all still dance together.

The Year 6 students have been learning the vocabulary for breakfast food, how to order in a café and to say what they like and dislike. They had a chance to put all of this into practice as their classrooms were transformed into a café where they enjoyed croissants and juice.
