25.01.2022 Rites and rituals are an important part of Korowa’s traditions; they create feelings of connection and belonging, build community and motivate us to continue working towards a goal. Celebrating milestones allows us to recognise how far we have come and the possibilities that lay before us.

24.01.2022 Last weekend reunions were planned for the Class of 1970, their Golden Jubilee 50 Year reunion and the Class of 1965, their 55 Year reunion. We are very disappointed that like so many events this year, they too have had to be postponed. Reunions are such special events, they are an opportunity to reconnect and reminiscing about your days at school.

24.01.2022 What are your memories of playing netball in school? Did you have an unusual team name? We currently have the Cyclones and the Snowflakes! If you loved playing netball and have continued in a coaching capacity, we would love to have Korovians apply for coaching roles via our website.

24.01.2022 A look back at Cross Country over the years and how it has changed.

23.01.2022 Community Activist, proud Korovian and inspiration to us all! Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Mary Drost OAM (McMahon, Class of 1949) has continued her activism in trying to protect Victorias built heritage. Mary began her community involvement in 1982 when she was elected to Camberwell Council. In 2000, she successfully campaigned to save the historic Camberwell Station from re-development and ever since has advocated for better planning laws and heritage protection across Melbourne. Mary was awarded an OAM in 2009 for her service to the community. Marys most recent campaign is focused on preserving a fine example of modernist architecture designed by the late Robin Boyd. Mary really personifies Korowas motto - No reward without effort! https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/kt7kCJyB7OS4PpZFGHPbI

22.01.2022 Congratulations to Ann Liang (Class of 2017 and Dux of the School) who has secured a book-deal with Inkyard/Harper Collins for her debut novel If You Could See The Sun. The novel follows a Chinese American girl, who, upon discovering that she can no longer afford the fees at her elite Beijing boarding school, teams up with her academic rival and monetises her strange new invisibility powers by discovering and selling her wealthy classmates’ most scandalous secrets. Ann describes it as an ‘an all-Asian book of my heart and my love letter to Beijing’. It sounds like quite a read! Here is the link to her book’s Goodreads page: https://lnkd.in/gMKqSST The novel will be published in 2022. Ann is currently in her final year of a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Melbourne.

22.01.2022 Last night we had planned to celebrate with the Class of 2015 at their 5 year reunion. Sadly, this is another event that has been postponed. Reunions are such special events, they are an opportunity to catch up with friends and share stories from your time at School.

21.01.2022 A Run of Success thanks to an Athletics Maestro Co-Athletics Captains Kate Richardson (Anderson, Class of 1991) and Sharna Smith (Bartlett, Class of 1991) with the Combined Sports Trophy after the tenth consecutive win in 1991. Korowa won the AAGGS Athletics Cup for a remarkable 10 years in a row from 1982 to 1991 a record that has never been broken! One of the secrets of our success was our amazing Athletics Coach, Henri Schubert MBE, a former Olympic and Commonwealth Games Coach who motivated every student to do her best. The Korowa students attributed their success to him - as one said and a special thanks to Henri father, friend and comrade to us all even to those who would not know a lamp post from a hurdle! 17.01.2022 Welcome to K6C FM! - Radio announcers, Sarah Tinsley (Class of 1997) and Petra Kaliviotis (Class of 1997) photographed live on the airwaves at the radio station started by Year 6C in 1991. Sarah recently reflected on how lucky she felt to be able to explore initiatives such as these ‘the School encouraged us always to dream big’. Ironically, Sarah went on to have a highly successful career in the radio industry for 15 years. From small things, big things grow!

13.01.2022 The winner of the Robyn Price Art Acquisition Award in 2020 was Year 12 student, Jude Hill. The Korovian Club awards the prize annually. Jude’s work ‘Untitled’ was a mixed media installation (linocut and textiles) and is an exploration of masculinity, but is also a call to value the feminine art traditions and an embracement of androgyny. Noted artist, Lisa Roet, who opened the VCE Art Exhibition in November last year, selected the piece. Jude’s work now joins the School’s collection.

12.01.2022 Celebrating the Class of 1975. While the 45 year reunion unfortunately has been postponed, we would love you to share your school memories in the comments below.

12.01.2022 With reunions postponed for now we celebrate the Class of 1980, where did those 40 years go?

12.01.2022 Celebrating 130 years of Korowa. This year we celebrate 130 years of delivering outstanding education to girls. Whilst it has not been the year we (or anyone) expected, it will definitely be one to remember! We look forward to celebrating this important milestone in Korowas history together when we are able to.

11.01.2022 Do you remember the excitement at the opening of the new Sports Centre in 1985 with Korowa being one of the few schools to have an indoor pool? Here is the site of the new Sports and Wellbeing Centre today showing the shell of the old pool exposed as it awaits its expansion to an 8-lane competition pool. Sarah Tinsley (Class of 1997) fondly remembers being in Reception Kindergarten in 1985 and being the first group to use the pool and feeling so very special.

11.01.2022 Today we celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2020. We are so proud of each and every one of you for your efforts during this difficult year. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for you all.

11.01.2022 We had 96 Year 8 students head down to Albert Park Lake today for their gROWing excursion. Students participated in teamwork exercises such as carrying rowing boats, a fitness circuit, a nutrition session with Lauren Hewitt and were able to get into a rowing boat out on the water.

Well done Hilary, we know you have a bright future ahead of you.

10.01.2022 Like so many events, recently we had to postpone the Class of 1985 reunion, an event planned to celebrate 35 years since graduating? The Class of 1985 have set up a Facebook Group, Korowa 85ers so they can remain connected online particularly while we cannot meet as a larger group. Join now.

09.01.2022 A much-respected teacher So many memories of school are linked to teachers whose influence lived on long after the classroom. One such teacher was Miss Robin Wright, who joined the music staff at Korowa in 1964 and soon became Director of Music, a position she held with distinction until 1984. During her 21 years at Korowa, she encouraged generations of students to enjoy Music in all its forms. As the Palm Leaf of 1984 stated she brought to her work outstanding ability, vitality, a great capacity for work, enthusiasm that never wanes and high professional standards.

09.01.2022 We are delighted to announce that Ireland Brown Constructions (IBC) has been appointed to build our new Sports and Wellbeing Centre. Work commenced today and it is expected to take 18 - 20 months to complete. The building will include an 8-lane swimming pool, multi-use indoor sports courts, fully equipped gym, studio spaces for dance, pilates and yoga, Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) Studio, consulting rooms for our health services, multipurpose room for drama performances an...d events, a rooftop netball court, commercial kitchen and cafeteria. This is all possible due to the generous support of the Cripps Foundation and an equally significant capital allocation from the School. This is the most significant capital works project in our 130-year history. This centre will provide our students, staff and wider community with access to state-of-the-art sports and wellbeing facilities for many years to come.

08.01.2022 Thought we would share a little glimpse of what arriving at school looks like at the moment for those students attending. We are following all health protocols including hand sanitising, temperature checking, practicing social distancing and washing hands regularly. We are committed to keeping our community safe.

08.01.2022 The new Barnfather fountain flows for the first time! The Korovian Club have generously donated a new cast iron fountain to replace the existing fountain in the Junior School playground. They donated the original in 1991 to honour the outstanding service of the much loved and respected Miss Jean Barnfather in her role as Head of the Junior School 1945 to 1982. The original fountain had been altered over time and the Club thought it more appropriate to replace it with one more in keeping with the stunning new Junior School playground currently being completed.

08.01.2022 Were looking to fill one or two more spots in our team of rowing coaches. If you have fond memories of rowing and would like to shape the next gen of rowers, please get in touch with us via Facebook Inbox or email [email protected]

06.01.2022 Traditionally on Anzac Day, tens of thousands attend dawn services or marches across the country. With coronavirus restrictions, Australias Anzac Day services have been cancelled this year so many now plan to hold their own commemorations at home to pay their respects. RSLs around the country are encouraging people to head outside and "Light up the Dawn" with mini-services at home. As the Last Post plays at 6am, head outside to your balcony, backyard or driveway with a lit c...andle to commemorate those who have served and continue to serve. Dont forget to set you alarm for tomorrow, Saturday, 25 April.

06.01.2022 This week we had planned to hold our one year reunion with our most recent graduates from the Class of 2019. Sadly, we have had to postpone this event. We love reunions, they are a wonderful opportunity to catch up and share stories. What a year it has been!

06.01.2022 A love of Music - Megan Pepper (Esson, Class of 1997)) photographed doing piano practice in the Margaret McPherson Music Centre in 1996 when she was in Year 11. Megan obviously practised well, as she went on to become School Pianist in Year 12! Megan studied Arts/Law at Monash University and joined the School Council of Korowa in September 2018.

06.01.2022 Here is the link to the first podcast of this amazing project that our students have been involved in producing.

05.01.2022 We are incredibly proud of our students Maya Gregory, Madhumitha Mallichetty, Zara Shaikh, Simrah Shaikh and Caroline Filiex who have been part of this incredible project. Together theyve produced three episodes, each focusing on different groups and communities affected by youth homelessness people who identify as LGBTIQ+, First Nations Australians, and young people who have experienced family violence. Each episode uses a mixture of lived experience experts (youth who ...have experienced homelessness due to these reasons/ from these backgrounds) and an expert. The podcast is about their stories and why so many people from these groups face homelessness. Episode 1, Family Violence and Youth Homelessness produced by our students will be released today. 05.01.2022 Year 12 student Laura Dowd has made history at Korowa achieving three perfect study scores in English, Literature and History Revolutions. With an ATAR of 99.7, Laura has done incredibly well in what has been a difficult year for all. We congratulate Laura on an outstanding achievement and wish her every success and happiness for the future.

03.01.2022 Korowa hosted our annual International Women’s Day Breakfast with 200 guests enjoying the insights from our diverse panel of Korovians - noted community activist, Mary Drost OAM (Class of 1949), Chief Health Officer at the Department Veterans Affairs and retired Rear Admiral, Professor Jenny Firman (Class of 1975), Tokyo Olympic Games planner, Dr Lisa Hindson (Class of 1979) and General Manager of Leadership and Talent at Wesfarmers, Anna Young (Class of 1987). There is much for our current students to learn from these women who have made a difference. #IWD2021 #ChooseToChallenge See more
