23.01.2022 PATHWAYS STUDENTS NOMINATED FOR INDTECH AND SHAPE Congratulations to Elrica and Will who have been nominated for the exhibitions that showcase the top technology Major Projects, IndTech and Shape. Both students produced projects that were developed to their strengths. Elrica's project was an animation that displayed both her artistic creativity in the production of digital graphics but also an adept hand at creating a cinematic animated story based around the COVID pandemic.... Will's project drew from his love of programming and displayed excellent skills in the development of 3D game mechanics but also quality 3D/2D graphics and animations. This achievement is a testament to both their talent and effort.

22.01.2022 THREE WEEKS AND COUNTING TILL...............Our Korowal CABARET!! It's that time again Cabaret tickets are now on sale! Cabaret is an eclectic collection of acts in production where students are able to refine and share their talents, learn new skills, work creatively with peers and teachers, find a sense of belonging, be inspired, and contribute to something genuinely special. This production is the sum total of many heads, hands and hearts. In the words of Lumiere, our ...High School invites you to relax, pull up a chair, as we proudly present - Cabaret. We don't recommend The Korowal Cabaret for primary students as the content may not be appropriate. We are also looking for Parent Volunteers to assist during performances. If you are able to assist, please email [email protected] or call the office and speak with Caroline.

20.01.2022 YEAR 7 CAMP We welcomed a weary bunch of year 7 students back to school yesterday afternoon after a fantastic camp at Yarramundi. The kids pushed their boundaries on the giant swing, crate stacking, low ropes & flying fox, multi group challenges, camp fires and night activities. They arrived home utterly exhausted!

18.01.2022 A Window with A View We hope you have enjoyed the sunshine as much as we have in Week 9. While we have kept away from the trees for three days following the rain, there have been plenty of spaces outdoors to play, kick balls around, and picnic on the grass. The creek through the middle of the playground was the perfect place for Year 1 to play ‘Pooh Sticks’, by throwing sticks into the flowing stream and watching them race each other. LOOKING OUTWARD...Continue reading

18.01.2022 A WINDOW WITH A VIEW In Week 6 we continued to enjoy the learning and the environment. Year 2 children and teachers enjoyed their first camping experience with a sleepover at School on Friday night. There is always a lot of excitement at this rite of passage, and it is the prelude to their camp away from School in Year 3. Here is a report from Anna, our Year 2 teacher: ‘Year 2 navigated their first overnight camp with maturity and enthusiasm. Battling the heat of the aftern...Continue reading

18.01.2022 A WINDOW WITH A VIEW In Week 8, we have squeezed as much as we possibly can into the final days of Term 4, 2020. The turning circle was alive with colour as the children’s artworks were displayed and available for parents on Friday. The big red double decker bus has taken the children for their last swimming school sessions. Primary children have taken their workbooks and artworks home to share with families, and this year, it is the first time that parents have seen the work...Continue reading

17.01.2022 MANY WINDOWS WITH MANY VIEWS While Barb enjoys a weekend with her family, I’m taking the opportunity to share some thoughts on diversity and harmony. This coming week is Harmony Week with the theme Everybody Belongs. We will celebrate Harmony Week on Friday 19th March and invite everyone to wear orange signifying social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. https://www.harmony.gov.au/ As w...Continue reading

16.01.2022 YEAR 4 Fun ways to practice spelling and Typing Club is up and running!

16.01.2022 RAIN, HAIL OR SHINE Year 1 enjoyed exploring the new rivers and running streams this week, whilst the rain continued. As part of their Winnie the Pooh Focus Study, students enjoyed playing Pooh Sticks Bridge - dropping leaves and sticks into the raging waters and eagerly racing to watch them get carried downstream. Our current chapter of the story has conveniently coincided with the wet weather, and the opening of the chapter has become our mantra for the week; 'It rained an...d it rained and it rained. Piglet told himself that never in all his life, and he was goodness knows how oldthree, was it, or four?never had he seen so much rain. Days and days and days.' As the chapter discusses the construction of a boat to escape the flood waters, Year 1 have begun to test the buoyancy of different materials and then designed, constructed and sailed their own boats, fit for Pooh and his friends. Anna And for some contrast a picture of the very blue skies over Korowal today. We are certainly enjoying it while it's here even as we have embraced the rain and the way it has changed the landscape around us.

16.01.2022 PATHWAYS CHEMISTRY MAGIC Andy always seems delighted when she talks about her Pathways class! Here they are investigating chemical versus physical change using the synthesis of Aluminium iodide from aluminium and iodine. This was obviously a vigorous chemical reaction, as the unfortunate mortar discovered, with plenty of heat given off as well as the formation of purple fumes and a totally new substance.

13.01.2022 SHARING OUR LEARNING What a relief to have parents back on campus at Korowal as we begin to connect more fully as a community once more! Primary school have been looking for ways to share the learning and spaces with parents and so have invited parents to visit their child's classroom on allocated afternoons. ... Such a sweet reminder of the importance of relationships and community at Korowal. There will be a parent gathering at the school on Monday 29th March, please see Skoolbag notices for more info.

12.01.2022 YEAR 5/6 VISIT TO AUTHUR BOYD EXHIBITION In a word... amazing. This exhibition and experience for the students was so engaging and eye opening. They participated in an art hunt - they were asked to look at the artworks subject matter, following the clues of the raven to finish the art quest.... Elise & Sarah

11.01.2022 TEAM WORK IN WORK ED Some pics of our Work Education team activity. The teams were given 100 blocks and had to make the tallest tower. Billy and Ivy won with an innovative design and yes they did have students around them supporting them when on the table!

09.01.2022 A WINDOW WITH A VIEW Already we have completed Week 7 of Term 4, and have only a short time left before we farewell the schoolyear for 2020. The students in both primary and high are showing signs of being tired. SWIMMING... On Monday the primary children will commence their swimming intensive program, just in time to prepare them before the Summer break. Remember to pack the bathers/ swimmers/ cossies. We recommend keeping early nights as much as possible in these last weeks. YEAR 6 GRADUATION The final celebration for this year is our Year 6 Graduation. My goodness this has come upon us quickly. Having the students in high school for a day recently seemed surreal, but the truth is it is happening. Our students are ready to cross this threshold. They will celebrate with their parents and teachers next Friday evening. YEAR 10 GRADUATION ASSEMBLY On Friday of Week 8 we gathered with parents to congratulate our Year 10 students on completing their junior high school years. It is a profound experience for both the students and their year coordinators, who have been with the group over these four years. During this time, the students have grown physically, academically, emotionally both individually, and as a group. Kim and Kelly spoke of the developments they have seen and experienced over that period. Kelly presented a cheeky slideshow capturing memorable moments from Year 7 through to 10, such a significant time of development! This aroused much laughter. Kim reflected on the stony silence that he met in earlier years when challenging them to critically appraise matters and concerns. He added, that this was in stark contrast to the enthusiastic participation he has witnessed and the great conversations they have had during Year 10. This Graduation celebration of their four years in high school is a significant ritual for us. In passing from junior to senior high school it is a time where the students are sitting between their old way of being, and a new way ahead. We now give much more of the decision making to the students because we trust that they have sound grounding and understanding of their responsibilities to themselves, their peers, teachers and parents. We assess that they can self-manage many aspects of their life safely. We expand their freedoms within the School. Already our Year 10 students have stepped up over the past few weeks, and forged ahead in their chosen subjects, for they have commenced Year 11. We feel honoured to play a part in the further growth that will occur over the next two years. Alas, we say farewell to two students, Tariq and Connor, who are following alternative post school pathways. We thank you both for being with us all here at Korowal and for being such great class mates. We wish you the very best for the next endeavours. We continue to enjoy our time together for the next week and a half. The students bring us great joy. There is never a dull day at Korowal! Stay well, Barb

07.01.2022 TEACHING EACH OTHER Year 5 students were asked to volunteer as the expert in their maths lesson - calculating the perimeter and other formulas. Jono was so excited that his hand flew up immediately. Year 5 are so proud of taking this leap in their maths work.

07.01.2022 A WINDOW WITH A VIEW It was lovely to arrive back at School on Wednesday after a few days of leave. Staff were all sporting orange ribbons in honour of Harmony week, which culminated with many students and staff decked in orange on Friday. Bec did such a beaut job of explaining how we integrate conversations, value respectful relationships, and layer restorative practices across the school on a daily basis in her ‘Window with A View’ post. Here we include many photos of just...Continue reading
