08.01.2022 If you haven't already prepared your property for this coming fire season, then you need to act now before Fire Restrictions come into force.

08.01.2022 Is your smoke alarm ready for retirement? If your smoke alarm is more than a decade old, it may belong in a museum, not on your ceiling. All smoke alarms have ...a 10-year life span and need to be replaced or they may not work when you need them most. In a fire, only a working smoke alarm can save your life, we believe that some households have never replaced their smoke alarms and that is concerning. Smoke alarms are designed to wake you when a fire starts to provide you and your family with the earliest possible warning to get out safely. If your smoke alarms aren’t working properly, you may miss that vital early warning sign that could save the lives of you and your family. When installed and maintained correctly these smoke alarms detect smoke the quickest, giving you more time to evacuate. If you don’t have a working smoke alarm in your home and a fire occurs, you are four times more likely to die and 26 per cent more likely to suffer serious injuries. If you do choose to use a 9volt battery smoke alarm, the battery will need to be replaced every year. 03.01.2022 Fire Danger Period to start on Monday, December 14 Yesterday Assistant Chief Fire Officer Trevor Roberts submitted a request to commence the Fire Danger Period ...for South Gippsland and Baw Baw Shire Councils on Monday, December 14. The request was approved today. The commencement of the Fire Danger Period will be gazetted and come in to effect at 1am on Monday, December 14. It expires on May 1 at 1am. "We are under the influence of the La Nina and abundance of grass growth is prevalent right across District 09," ACFO Roberts said. "We are not seeing a steady amount of rain but rather concentrated heavier falls over shorter periods, this in conjunction with lower Root Zone Soil Moisture will result in rapid curing particularly in the north of the District. "The BoM is still predicting rainfall into summer season but these fine fuels will dry very quickly with some warmer weather and wind in no time." The commencement of the Fire Danger Period means people wishing to use fire must apply and attain a permit.
