23.01.2022 After designing and constructing their own bridges yesterday, the Year 7 STEAM Class attempted to make a Da Vinci bridge today. "What is a Da Vinci bridge?" you ask. It is a self supporting bridge. This unique design is held together by its own weight without requiring any ties or connections.

15.01.2022 The 16 days of activism campaign is an international campaign that runs from November 25th - International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women, and December 10th - Human Rights day. The campaign raises awareness about gender-based violence on local, national, and international levels. Violence is not always physical, but can also include emotional and financial abuse, and at the core of this abuse is a level of disrespect towards others. ... This year Korumburra Secondary College is supporting the 16 Days of Activism by STANDING AGAINST DISRESPECT.

15.01.2022 This is a copy of the email that was sent to parents this afternoon regarding Parent/Teacher Interviews. Dear parents and guardians, This Thursday 17th September 4 pm 7:30 pm, and Friday 18th September 9 am 12 pm, we will be providing the opportunity for parents to have parent/teacher interviews with their child/ren’s teachers. You will book as per normal via Compass. Any problems, please either ring the school or contact us through the designated parent email address: [email protected] and a member of staff will ring you back. As we are not allowed to have members of our community onsite as of yet, we will be holding these interviews via Microsoft Teams. All parents need to do is get their student to open Teams on their laptops and then parents accept the call when the teacher rings. This will come up on your screen like a messenger call, and you just need to click the blue video button and you will be connected with the teacher. Easy right?! Now don’t be afraid if you are not used to video calls, we are now old hats at it! One tip is to turn your video on, this makes the communication much easier for both sides. We look forward to seeing ‘virtually’ as many families as we can this Thursday and Friday. Kind regards, Vaya Dauphin and John Wilson

15.01.2022 Prom Excursion The year 9's headed to Wilson's Prom last week to get out and about after such a long and unique year - and the Prom did not disappoint. The weather was perfect to climb Mt Oberon, a challenge that rewarded all students with the view at the top. A great moment for all and even more special for those that have never visited the Prom or climbed Mt Oberon. ... We then boarded the Pennicott Wilderness Journey's amphibious boats for a two hour ride including the most southern part of mainland Australia, seals swimming and sunning on the rocks, Skull rock and lighthouses.

15.01.2022 Year 7 STEAM students completed a bridge engineering challenge. They began by representing different countries which had different bridge building resources, and then "trading" resources to gather what they needed to construct a bridge. The brief was to design and construct a bridge that would span a 25cm gap, and be able to hold maximum weight . With limited resources they got creative in solving the problem.

15.01.2022 Our wonderful School for Leadership students presented their Community Learning Project via Microsoft Teams this morning. Well done everyone! So proud of what you have achieved to date. It has been a challenging road for these students as due to COVID they had to return from the camp/school much earlier than they would have normally.

14.01.2022 Copy of email sent to all parents/guardians, 17/2/2021 Dear Parents/Guardians Earlier today, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced that the statewide lock-down will end at midnight tonight. As a part of this, all schools will return to on-site learning from tomorrow.... From tomorrow, COVID-safe guidelines for on-site learning will be the same as last week. Most specifically, all staff and students will be required to wear a mask when indoors. Teachers may remove their mask when they are actively teaching a class. Increased cleaning will continue and hand sanitizer will be available throughout the school. Last Friday we set ourselves the ambitious target of completing all timetabled classes during the lock-down in a Remote Learning mode. Today we want to acknowledge the incredible efforts of all students, parents and staff which ensured that we achieved this target, and that there was minimal disruption to student learning. We thank all parents and students for their amazing efforts over the last few days. Our online attendance was outstanding, and all staff reported very high levels of engagement from all students while in Remote Learning. Also a very big thank you to our staff for the many hours spent planning and delivering a full schedule of on-line lessons. Your dedication to our students and community is exceptional. We are all looking forward to seeing the smiling faces of all our students on-site again tomorrow! If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact the General Office during business hours tomorrow.

14.01.2022 We are proud of the efforts and contributions our VCAL Hospitality students and school captains made to the ANZAC day commemorations at Korumburra Primary School this morning. This was a particularly special ceremony, as two honor boards were unveiled today; a tribute to the former students of KPS who paid the sacrifice of serving our country in WWI and WWII. Lest we forget.

13.01.2022 Congratulations, what an awesome achievement

13.01.2022 Copy of email sent out re the wearing of masks (important information) Dear parents, carers, staff, and students, As I am sure everyone is aware, face masks are mandatory in Victoria. When students return to school, they will be required to wear face masks.... A few things students need to know regarding masks or face coverings: You should wear a mask as soon as you leave the house, this includes on the bus and on the way to school Some students may have exemptions, that is, due to a disability or medical condition, they may not be able to wear a mask. It will be important that we don’t automatically assume people are doing the wrong thing if they are not wearing a mask. Don’t call attention to students who are not wearing masks Do the right thing, if you are wearing a mask, wear it properly, avoid touching it, and keep it on at all times We will all make mistakes and forget our mask at some stage, rather than judge others, help them find a solution Department guidelines state that teachers are allowed to remove their masks whilst teaching and/or to communicate with students if they have a hearing impairment and/or are struggling to understand. Teachers at our school are very motivated to do the right thing, they do not want anyone to get sick Some teachers will wear a plastic face shield so that students can read lips, and or see them clearly. A few things parents need to know regarding masks or face coverings: If your child is eligible for an exemption, please email the school at [email protected] with this information and a letter from their health practitioner If your child has a hearing impairment and/or another documented condition that we are already aware of you do not need to provide a letter from a health practitioner, but please use the email above to confirm with us that your student will not be wearing a mask Some children find wearing masks difficult. Consider purchasing neck scarves, or an insert for their mask which keeps the mask away from their face. I have been told by the department that plastic face shields are also acceptable Whether the individual likes it or not, the wearing of face masks for those over the age of 12 is mandatory outside of the home. For the safety of everyone, all students will need to comply with this regulation, unless they have an exemption. A few things staff need to know regarding masks or face coverings: Staff are able under the guidelines to remove their masks to teach, and to communicate with students who have a disability or who may be struggling to understand Like others, we may occasionally forget our mask, but as soon as we realise or it is pointed out, we will rectify this Teachers will be aware of those students who have an exemption from wearing masks but will not draw attention to those students. Have a safe and happy holiday everyone, especially now that the restrictions have eased a little. Kind regards, Vaya Dauphin

12.01.2022 Parent/Teacher interviews are this Thursday 4-7:30 pm and Friday 9-12 pm. Bookings are open on Compass. Friday is NOT a student free day, students will have WIN time and will find work on Compass for each class. The school day will finish at 2:30 pm on Friday. Please contact the school via the parent email if you are having any trouble making appointment times: [email protected]

08.01.2022 As part of our 2021 curriculum, KSC has introduced a new STEAM subject at Years 7 and 8. This innovative subject focuses on developing students’ skills and knowledge in areas shown to be vital in the contemporary work-force (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths). The Year 8 STEAM class was off to a great start yesterday morning, learning about Quick Response codes (QR codes) and their uses. Students completed a scavenger hunt around the College grounds using QR codes as clues.

08.01.2022 Head Start - what a fantastic initiative - matching young people with careers :)

07.01.2022 Daily Inspiration

06.01.2022 Copy of email that went out this morning re Week 1, Term 4. Dear parents, carers, and students, We hope our students have had a wonderful break and have had an opportunity to enjoy the slight easing of restrictions.... Week 1 All students will continue to learn remotely in Week 1, except students studying a VCE unit 3/4 subject. VCE students of unit 3/4 subjects will have to attend onsite for the General Achievement Test (GAT) on Wednesday, and then for any practice exams they might have on the Wednesday to Friday. Students who meet the criteria for onsite supervision (and have previously arranged this), will continue to be able to attend onsite Week 1. A decision about the whole school's return will be made on Tuesday 6th October and then communicated via email and Facebook. It is most likely all students will return Monday, Week 2. Masks All students and staff are required to wear masks. You may be aware that the Premier announced over the holidays that scarves and face shields are no longer acceptable. Students must wear a fitted mask. Obviously this is key in reducing any possible spread of infection. Teachers are permitted to remove their masks in classes to teach. Some students may have medical exemptions, please be kind, and don't assume someone is automatically doing the wrong thing. We are incredibly excited about returning to face to face teaching. I think the important thing to bear in mind is that in order for us all to have this privilege we must do our best to prevent the spread of coronavirus. At school and at home, and within the community, this means, practicing good hygiene and social distancing, wearing masks outside of the home, and staying home and away from others if we are unwell. Kind regards, Vaya Dauphin College Principal

06.01.2022 To all the Australians and New Zealanders who sacrificed so we could have all the things we have today, we honour and remember you. To those who didn’t make it home, we mourn you.

06.01.2022 Can't wait to meet our prospective students and families :)

05.01.2022 The information announced today by Dan Andrews and James Merlino relates specifically to Metro Melbourne, there is currently no change to the return to school arrangements for regional Victoria. We will let parents know on the 6th October (Tuesday of Week 1) whether all students will return on the 12th October (Monday Week 2) or whether we will have a staggered start. At this stage, due to stable numbers in South Gippsland, it is most likely all students will return on the 12th October. All students studying a VCE Unit 3/4 subject will be onsite on Wednesday the 7th October for the GAT. These students also have practice exams following this.

05.01.2022 I vote ‘tap’ water

05.01.2022 Late in Term 1 the Advance Class completed their first community service project by coordinating and hosting a fundraiser day for the Korumburra CFA. Students organised a casual dress day for students, cooked a delicious sausage sizzle, sold home-made brownies and ran a ‘guess how many lollies in the jar’ competition (that was won by a delighted Jake Churchill in Year 9). The students raised close to $300 for our local CFA branch, and were able to accrue some community service hours towards achieving their Duke of Edinburgh Award. Well done Advance!

03.01.2022 We have been very lucky to secure Maree Crabbe to talk to us about this very important issue. She is an internationally renowned guest speaker in this field. The session is suitable for adults and parents/carers. This space is changing rapidly for young people, now more than ever, it is important parents are aware of what's out there.

03.01.2022 Good on you Kasey

03.01.2022 The Year 9's have started learning about Electricity and Electrical circuits in Science this week. To start off their learning they covered Static electricity today, and how electrical charge can build up in your body with the Van de Graaff generator.

02.01.2022 Copy of email sent out this morning, 24.1.21 regarding COVID safe practices Term 1, 2021. Dear parents, carers, students, and staff, Welcome back to a new school year. It is important that everyone appreciates the New Year but still stays focused on what we need to continue to do to minimise the risk and spread of the COVID virus. As per the Department of Education’s guidelines, the following practices will remain in place, or be put in place (e.g. density ratios). ... Enhanced cleaning of the school will continue in Term 1. The school will maintain the same routines from last year (e.g. students are to enter classrooms where applicable from eternal doors, the lockers will remain spread out throughout the school, everyone is encouraged to practice strong hand hygiene, and hand sanitiser will continue to be readily available). Masks should be worn where social distancing is not possible e.g. masks should be worn in classrooms. Staff should continue to maintain 1.5 metres distance from their colleagues. School events involving parents and community members will be subject to density ratios. This means that only a certain number of people can be in a space dependent on the size of the room or building. Consequently, it is likely the numbers for our Presentation Evening on the 8th February will be capped. No member of the school community - teachers, students, staff, parents, or visitors should attend the school if they are unwell. The best way to prevent the spread of COVID is to stay home if you are unwell and get tested. Please be aware that if staff get sick they are required to get tested immediately and isolate. This means they will be absent from school from anywhere from 3 days to a week. Consequently, this impacts on our ability to staff the school. Parents and carers, please do not send your children to school unwell even if you believe they have just a cold. Currently, most school events can now go ahead subject to careful planning. This will continue as long as numbers of COVID cases remains low. Density requirements will be in place for events that involve anyone other than students and staff. To date, our community has done an outstanding job of reducing the spread of illness well done! If we continue to stay home when unwell and practice excellent hygiene, this will go a long way in making sure our families stay healthy as well as helping to keep our school open! Kind regards, Vaya Dauphin and John Wilson

02.01.2022 Merry Christmas KSC community. May your day be filled with joy, love and special time with those you hold dearest.

02.01.2022 Progress Reports Now Open Term 3 reports are now available in Compass. Please access them via your Compass account. A reminder to parents/guardians that interviews are available for Thursday afternoon and Friday morning and can be booked via the parent portal in Compass.

01.01.2022 Congratulations Alex! What an amazing achievement. We wish you every success
