22.01.2022 Catch this weeks assembly!

22.01.2022 We have just heard the notification from Premier Andrews in regards to the COVID-19 restrictions which are to be in place from midnight tonight for five days. As soon as we receive direction from the Department of Education we will inform you using Facebook and Compass.

22.01.2022 Hi all the entrance closest to our catterick crescent crossing to the basketball stadium carpark is closed off. Access to the car park is still available from the entrance further along Catterick Crescent opposite our oval... Take care

22.01.2022 We are very excited about our new building opening next term. Rooms 7-12 and room 17 will start moving into the building tomorrow and Friday. While this will be disruptive to students we still expect to see them at school however we do respect the decision of those parents who choose to keep their children home due to the increased disruption. We apologise for the late notice, however coordinating this has taken more time than anticipated.

21.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to those special men in our Kossie Kids lives.Happy Fathers Day to those special men in our Kossie Kids lives.

21.01.2022 As you have all probably heard, Daniel Andrews has announced today that the state of Victoria will be commencing stage 4 lockdown from midnight tonight. This means that students will remain home on Monday 15th, Tuesday 16th and Wednesday17th February. We will provide you with more information as it comes to hand.

21.01.2022 Face Coverings in Schools A Compass post has been sent out tonight in regards to the information we have for face coverings in schools. This is a shortened version of what was posted: Primary Students:... - Students who attend primary school will not be required to wear a face covering. - Students who are ages 12 or over by Year 6 will not be required to wear face coverings. - Whilst children aged under 12 years are not recommended by the Department of Health to wear a face covering, individual families can make their own decisions regarding their children. Teachers & Education Support Staff: - Teachers and education support staff will not be required to wear face coverings while teaching, but those who wish to do so, can. - Teachers and ES should wear face coverings in other areas of the school when not teaching (e.g. on yard duty and when providing first aid), and when travelling to and from school. As with everything that we have been through during the COVID-19 restrictions, we believe that we can continue to all work together to keep our community safe. We thank you for your ongoing support and understanding. We recommend that if you are concerned about how your child will respond to seeing people in masks, that you begin to wear them around the home, with family members and loved ones prior to them attending school on Monday. This will help alleviate any alarm that they may feel. You may even choose to use a stuffed toy or doll to help make this feel more normal.

21.01.2022 2020 has certainly been a challenge for us all which makes it even more important to stay connected. Therefore we felt that it was really important to share the RUOK? Day message. This video helps us know what to say to someone when they are not OK and guide them through how they can continue a conversation that could change a life. https://youtu.be/erHLP29tzPE

20.01.2022 The final announcement from Realle, Arie and Ms Granger. Thanks to Ms Humphrey who made the photo book this week.

20.01.2022 Kossie’s Running Track We are very excited to share some photos of our new running track! The track goes right around our football oval and soccer field covering a distance of approximately 350 metres. We will be using the track as part of our fitness training in PE and for brain breaks during learning time. The students will also be able to run laps during recess and lunchtime. The track will get christened when we have our spectacular Colour Run (with ob...stacles) on the 11th of December. We are really pleased that this track will allow access to the oval for people of all abilities due to a linking track starting near the hall. We were successful in our application for a Sporting Schools Plus grant and this money was used to fund the construction of the track. We are very grateful to Glenn Lawless from ‘Lawlex Excavations and Earthmoving’ for completing this amazing project within our limited budget. If you need any earthmoving done give Glenn a call on 0477631470

19.01.2022 Colour Run In case you haven’t heard- we are having a Spectacular Colour Run this year instead of our usual Fun Run! It will take place on our school oval on Friday 11th of December. The students will complete obstacles as they run laps of the course while getting sprayed with coloured powder! These will include a giant slippery slide, spider web, tyre hop, commando crawl under netting and hay bale climb. There is also an opportunity for students and families to rai...se funds for our school. We are super excited for this special day and so are the students! * If anyone knows a farmer who may be interested in donating or selling us some discounted hay bales please let us know. We are after the small rectangular ones. We could return them after the event however they will have coloured cornflour on them. Sally Lovell

14.01.2022 Dear Parents/Guardians, We are very happy to announce that further restrictions have eased and parents/guardians are now able to come into the school for drop-offs and pick-ups. This will commence from MONDAY. With only three weeks to go, we would like to keep things as normal as possible for our students, and for them, being dropped off and picked up at the gate has become the new normal. The students have really shown how independent they can be, and we would like to ask yo...u to continue the routine that we have in place till the end of the year. Teachers will continue supervising the gates morning and afternoons to assist this. Compass messaging has been fantastic, and will continue to be used as our preferred means of communication between home and teachers. If you do need to come onsite, social distancing rules apply and you are only permitted for 15 minutes (this is indoors and outdoors). If you need to be in the school for a longer period of time, please come through the office. You will need to wear a mask and sign in at the front desk. This is part of the Department of Education Covid-19 tracing protocol. Further easing of restrictions include parents now being able to attend graduation ceremonies (more information to follow), kindergarten students can participate in transition as a whole group and drinking fountains and taps will be re-opened. These are all very positive steps towards what will hopefully be a fantastic 2021 at Kossie. Thank you for your patience and understanding in ensuring a smooth end to what has been a tumultuous year. 04.01.2022 RETURN TO SCHOOL The changes to Covid-19 restrictions which were announced yesterday do not apply to schools in regional Victoria, which means barring unforeseen circumstances over the next five days we expect to return to school on Monday 13th of July. We will receive revised operational guidelines (hygiene, social distancing, etc) towards the end of week, but expect most strategies that were in place at the end of term 2 will remain for the commencement of term 3. Once we receive these we will distribute them through Compass. So for now, continue to enjoy the school holidays. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday.

04.01.2022 Better late than never. We hope you enjoy Blake's interview as much as we all did!

03.01.2022 Last night we received notification due to an ease in restrictions all primary students in regional and rural areas will return to school during the week of October 5th, which is the first week of next term. At Kossie, Monday the 5th of October has been approved by School Council as a curriculum day so that teachers can prepare for the return of students. This means that students will begin school on Tuesday 6th October. We are really looking forward to seeing all of you on Tuesday October 6th. Please note that unless we receive further notification, adults are still not permitted on site, unless arranged in advance with the general office.

01.01.2022 Today our Kossie Netballers and our student leaders had the pleasure of meeting Geva Mentor and Shimona Nelson from the Collinwood Magpies. Geva and Shimona were at the Gippsland Regional Indoor Stadium to announce their pre-season tournament being held at the stadium against the Adelaide Thunderbirds and Queensland Firebirds. Our students also had the pleasure of meeting Latrobe City Mayor, Sharon Gibson. We are grateful to Latrobe Valley Authority and to the Magpies for the opportunity to meet these amazing athletes. We really had a fabulous time meeting them and learnt a valuable lesson in the importance of having fun with our sport and the value of friendships. Check out WIN News tonight, we may make an appearance.

01.01.2022 New football Posts and Basketball Goals Over the holidays we have installed brand new metal football goal posts and two new basketball goals! These were purchased thanks to the fundraising efforts of our whole school community last year when we held our Colour Run and raised over $11,000. We are very excited about these fabulous additions to our school grounds and we’re sure the students will be too when they see them tomorrow. A huge thank you to Glenn Lawless from Lawlex Excavations for installing them. He also installed our running track last year.

01.01.2022 Today I have sent out a post via Compass in regards to the return to school tomorrow. I have attached a copy of the school map which will help identify gates an...d rooms (you will have to enlarge it on your device). In summary: - We ARE returning to school tomorrow, however we do need to maintain the Covid Safe arrangements we had in place in term 2. This means that parents and carers are still discouraged from coming onsite. If you do need to enter, you must report to the office through the office - With our Prep - 2s, 2/3I and 3/4H commencing the term in their new classrooms, it makes more sense to use the gates on Catterick Cres for those students and gives our families greater access to safe parking. - We have also allowed for our 5/6 students to access either the Kosciuszko St gate or the Garibaldi St gate (this is also clearly indicated on the map). Any junior student who is dropped off in Kosciuszko Street can safely walk around the school to his/her designated gate, either using the crossing or having been dropped off on the school side of the road. - Teachers from the new building will come out to the gate when the bag bell rings to take their students to their new room. - Unfortunately there is still a great deal of mud around the building and there are still some areas closed off. These areas will continue to be worked on throughout term 3. --Gate Entrances and Exits: Prep - 2 Students: New Building Gates and wait under cover 2/3I & 3/4 Students: Ramp Gate and wait in BBQ Area 5/6 Students: Garibaldi St Gate & Kosciuszko St Main Gate and wait in the quiet area Bus Travelers: Kosciuszko St Main Gate and wait in their designated area After School Care Students: Office Gate, Garibaldi St Bike Shed Users: Bike Shed Gate and wait in their designated area Please be mindful when picking up and dropping off students that there are no parking zones around the school and of the rules associated with the drop off zones. We recognise that this is another change that has been introduced and we thank you all for your ongoing support. Each time a change has been introduced it has been to increase the safety of all members of our school community and to ensure that we align with the Departments Guidelines. Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.
