14.01.2022 Recently we've had a number of clients ring our office to ask about a call they just received from the ATO that they're not sure about. The caller pretending to be the ATO is chasing debt and has threatened to arrest the client if it's not paid. The latest one starts with a recorded message. It is important to remember that a legitimate caller from the ATO will never: - threaten you with arrest, - demand immediate payment, particularly through unusual means such as bitcoin,... pre-paid credit cards or gift cards - refuse to allow you to speak with a trusted advisor or your regular tax agent - or present a phone number on caller ID Check out the ATO website below for information on the latest known scams. https://www.ato.gov.au//Onl/Identity-security/Scam-alerts/
