17.01.2022 White Ribbon Day aims to raise awareness of family violence. Family violence is a topic that invokes strong emotion and often a sense of overwhelm not knowing what we can to to counteract it . This year I started a tiny community event . It’s aimed to raise community awareness for what we can all do to end the silence around violence. A small community sports club making a stance to not tolerate any gender based insults during play . This initiative was given full energet...ic support from within the club, the greater region and even gained support from Craig Foster . It was an amazing lesson for me , that doing something however small it seems is what White Ribbon Day calls for . What I learnt was starting small - just in my own community was achievable and impactful . The positive and supportive response was encouraging and showed me people are looking for ways to have a positive impact. The pledge is important there is somewhere everyday it can be applied never taking part in, condoning or staying silent about violence against women. Let’s make every day a day where we find somewhere to enact the pledge . See more
