25.01.2022 So we are still here filling your orders and its quite heartwarming to see how resourceful, positive and creative you all are. Words cant describe how much we appreciate your support - we're here for the long haul for as long as you need goodies to help create something wonderful while the world goes slightly crazy. Thinking caps are on here for textiles based activities for all age groups. Today I bought home a little stash of fibre for a bash at needle felting a few critters - some of our rugged 21 micron Chinese wool tops which aren't great for spinning but needle felt like a dream. Also some Italian wool slubs which could maybe be an interesting addition. Will post my progress -

24.01.2022 Warm, sunny days and its time to play with some Sun Dyes. These are non toxic water based inks which can be used as a textile ink or by using different shapes placed on your inked fabric (leaves are an easy start) you can create beautiful ghost images on fabric. Here is a step by step tutorial. The inks come in an intermixable colour range - suggest you dilute them with water to make them go further and work on a flat surface. This is a great kids or grown ups activity.

23.01.2022 If you think its just us mad Australians who are whipping up a creative storm while we languish in lock down - you're are mistaken. People all over the world are ramping it up and adding to or dipping into their stash. We have sent supplies to the UK, Japan, New Zealand, Canada and Europe - our UK Landscapes stockist is having trouble keeping up so more of those babies are flying out shortly. Natural dyes, Eco Colour, Fibre, Sun Dyes, Landscapes, Procions keep it going people we will create our way out of this. Here are some pics of the good works.

23.01.2022 We Piuma Yarn! Its extra fine merino pencil yarn that is super soft and knits like a dream. With one 100gm ball of Piuma and an 8mm set of DPNs, you can knit your own beanie, including a truly massive pom-pom OR knit two beanies without pom-poms. Summer is a great time to get your knitting done for the colder months, sounds crazy, but by the time winter comes, youll be glad you did it. We used the free pattern Calzetta from the lovely Justyna Lorkowska available on her Ravelry page (see link below). You can find Piuma Yarn on our website in 45 different colours! #handknit #piuma #dhg #knitting

23.01.2022 Footnote to our last post re Indigo dyeing - to celebrate the lifting of lockdown [when it happens] and the amazing support were getting from you all, we intend to run a FREE Beginners Indigo dyeing day for 25 maniacs in the delightful Kinglake West Hall north of Melbourne. The workshop will be on us but you will need to either bring or buy some cotton, silk or linen fabric or scarves to stitch, fold, clamp or bind. You can do this in advance to fill in idle lock down time - some simple shibori instructions will go up with the Indigo in our cart shortly. Tea, coffee and cake provided and you can buy your lunch from the local Flying Tarts Bakery. When we have a date [weather permitting] we'll post it here on the page and somewhere in our shopping cart. First 25 to register will get a spot. Should be chaotic but loads of fun !!!

21.01.2022 And more dyed fibre from Wallace & Rigby - themed hand dyed 19 micron prefelts in our Landscapes colours (what else) to kick start you crazy felters - 75 x 75cm Desert, Coastal and Mountain - spectacular for felting. embellishing or anything else you can come up with.

21.01.2022 Gradually adding more to our mixed fibre packs from Wallace & Rigby with some more Landscapes themes plus a random fairy mix we call Midsummer Nights. These include approx 11gms Mawata Hankies, 12gms Silk Rods and 12gms coloured viscose rayon tops. Felt your socks off!!!!

21.01.2022 Hi - check out this great little speed tutorial using Derwent Inktense Pencils and Posco markers by Helen Godden Quiltmaker https://youtu.be/1EWuMyzo1pg

21.01.2022 Having a mask free day at home so I've got time for posts - yay Adding to our dyed Silk Rods, we've put together some themed fibre packs using Wallace & Rigby's silk rods and Mawata hankies plus our new Viscose tops. So lustrous and silky, viscose complements silk perfectly for felting or spinning. These are the colourways we have already - we call them 'Stairway to Heaven'.

21.01.2022 One of our lovely Landscapes customers from Tasmania - Karina Moore has named her hand dyed yarns after Louie & Lola - her mini dachsunds. If you feel like using some lovely yarn and giving a talented lady some support you can find her at www.louieandlolayarns.com.au. You wont be disappointed

21.01.2022 For those of you in lockdown who are looking for something new to try - pure cotton tea towels indigo dyed with a twist. If you use Indigo on a coloured fabric - the chemicals in your dyebath will strip or reduce the colour underneath and replace it with Indigo Blue. You can also use the Soda Ash and Hydros as a 'reduction' bath on its own. We have plenty of White , Black and Ecru tea towels here and some more colours on their way into the shop shortly. Next week we'll do an online tutorial to help get you going.

21.01.2022 24 NEW Colors! Landscapes Seasons https://www.kraftkolour.net.au/landscapes-dye-seasons

20.01.2022 All good here and forging ahead. We're seeing some new stock trickle in - our silk shipment is on a slow boat from China but due soon but just landed some Ball Brausers, Silk Carrier Rods, Umbrella Swifts, Bamboo Knitting Needles and Knitting Nancys. YAY !!!! Hope you're all well and creating your way out of the boredom and stress, the green dots at the supermarkets and the endless hand sanitising.( Word of warning - dont use hand sanitiser on the dash of your car, it strips the colour out).

19.01.2022 According to the worlds best felters - viscose rayon is a must have - lustrous like silk but much more affordable so KK has just added DHG Viscose to our cart - all 57 colours, We're putting some mini sample packs together which will go up next week but you can also buy in the usual sizes - this fibre is spectacular - here are just a few pics.

19.01.2022 Just in stock added to our new Bag o' Bits category - 20gm Pkt of Prefelt bits to add to any felting projects; Pkt 12 Stitch Markers for knitters; Faux Fur Pom Poms for our Beanie Kits which look strangely like baby Guinea Pigs

17.01.2022 Stocking up on some old favourites and some new goodies including our handloomed linen scarf and a 3 mumy fringed organza scarf which dyes to extra ordinary depth of shade with Landscapes dyes. Both scarves are lightweight which makes them perfect for Xmas and summer which we're hoping is not too hot - the masks will be really tricky when it starts to warm up.

17.01.2022 Our new favorite employee Tat (we still love the others) modelling one of our beanies with a matching pompom. The mask is not a fashion statement - its a legal requirement but she's still quite cute

17.01.2022 Natural Dyed 19 micron Merino Wool Tops on sale - 15% OFF https://www.kraftkolour.net.au/dyei/natural-dyed-wool-tops/

16.01.2022 Nicole Anderson was busy over the weekend using her new carding board on some of our DHG Natural Dyed 19 micron wool tops - heavenly colours - cant wait to see how they spin - thanx for the pix Nic

15.01.2022 From Friday night to yesterday we had 95mm of rain - a great weekend to spend inside on the machine with some Wool felt squares whipping up Tea Cosies - we don't use tea bags in our house. The 30cm squares are purrfect for a 4 cup pot. I line them with wadding for extra cosiness which can be removed and washed.

15.01.2022 Big Landscapes 'Seasons' launch on Monday - KK staff will go out for lunch for dumplings and charge our glasses. Thanx to everyone for your support, comments and scarey preorders. This was the first batch to head off today to Brenal Alpacas in New Zealand. Brenda has been on our case for some time now so we figured she deserved to be the first order out the door. Next lots will go to Winterwood, Vic Spinners, Spinners Haven & Feltfine. The 100gms and kits will be up on the cart for our retail from Monday. There may a few delays so bear with us while we pump them out. The new colour charts are in the mail to all our stockists XXXX Bonny

15.01.2022 This is Ted - he belongs to Fay and he's wearing a scarf she handpainted with Opulence Silk inks. Were not telling him about the facebook post - she's worried he might get a bit full of himself

14.01.2022 On a cheery note - not a huge fan of supermarkets so I do my fruit and veg shopping at the local farm shop STOKES ORCHARD in Upper Plenty north of Melbourne. They dont usually seem to be overly flat out but it looks like the lure of freshly grown and picked fruit and veg, direct farm to table and the chaos in supermarkets is the silver lining for this little venture. You could say they are quite busy lately. Fresh big plump perfect farm strawberries, delicious plums and the best crunchy apples. What they dont grown they buy in but its always a pleasure to go there and lots of smiles to go with the hand sanitiser.

13.01.2022 After 35 years plus working at Kraftkolour - Graeme and I have decided sometime soon to hang up our scales and try not driving to work every day. This business was established in 1985 when we were just young things and has really gone from strength to strength. We're are still very passionate about all things textile but its probably time for someone else to take up the reins. We have a very loyal and treasured customer base so we'll keep your orders flying out the door until we find the right someone who will look after KK and continue to give the service and support you are all used to. If you think you might be that person we'd love to hear from you, Cheers Bonny XXX

12.01.2022 COVID UPDATE UPDATE ON COVID 19 STAGE 4 RESTRICTIONS As Kraftkolour is classified as a business able to be open for on-site work, letting you know that we are open and operating at full capacity, your orders will be processed asap. Where possible we suggest you ask for Express shipping [which may incur a little extra postage].

12.01.2022 Sometimes someone asks us to help out with a colour way and we look at it and just love it. One of our maniacs is starting an online workshop with Pam de Groot this weekend called 'Textures and Dimensions' and sent us a pic of a Wallace & Rigby dyed Mawata Silk Hankie. She had some DHG 19 micron wool tops in mind to use with it so we put them together and sent her a pic - they worked so beautifully we thought we'd share. Thanx Mary Just popped some Silk Rods in the mail for you to add to the mix . Hope the workshop's a blast !!!

12.01.2022 Bit of a FYI post regarding dye and dye powders - like humans dyes are all individuals. Different dyes are made for different fibres - quite often a dye will only be compatible with one fibre , sometimes they will cross over and dye another fibre but may not have reliable fastness or build up into a strong colour [or just wash out really quickly] . Some dyes are heavy dense powders and some are fluffy and light. If you look at your jars of dye and see some are full to the brim and some are half empty you might think you're not getting what you've paid for . Weigh all your jars and you should find they all weigh true to label. If not, we're idiots and we need to send a replacement . The pic I've posted is of 50gm jars of Procion Reactives which are one of the most random classes of dye for volume variations.

12.01.2022 We were excited to get creative and gift wrap a mothers day present for a customers mum who is in COVID lockdown. Happy Mothers Day for Sunday - keep up the good work everyone and try to stay sane if you are home educating your kids.

11.01.2022 Dyed one of our Organza 70 x 200cm scarf - under dyed with Landscapes Citrus then overdyed with Galah for a spectacular scarlet.

10.01.2022 Adding some dyed silk fibres to our stash - these are Wallace & Rigby's Silk Rods which are a pile of deliciousness for felters, spinners, paper makers and embellishers. If you can suggest something exciting & different to do with them send us your ideas and we'll get Tatyana to pick the one she likes most then send you a free set of 10gm x 4 colour ways - Rainbow Fish, Forest Floor, Potpourri and Tiger Lily. AND THE WINNER IS ................................ Thanks for your... great suggestions - we passed them on to Tatyana from Wallace & Rigby and she had a tough time deciding but Jan Welch's ideas fitted nicely with her passion for spun yarn "I would shred them and add the wisps into a plied art yarn to give a great colour accent and add shine with texture". Congratulations Jan - your little gems will be in the mail and we hope to see some pics of what you do with them sometime soon. See more

10.01.2022 Something we've been working on using our Piuma Yarn from Italy - a kit for a very very simple little beanie which you can whip up in a couple of nights. Take your pick of any of the Piuma Yarns plain or multicoloured. The kit includes 2 sets of double pointed needles, 100gm yarn, easy to follow pattern and a tapestry needle. Make your own Pom Pom or use one of our fabulous faux fur numbers. Great for beginner knitters, kids, as a gift for a friend or yourself. These are now in the cart - there are 2 options - with a faux fur pompom or a DYI pompom template. Feedback is that they are lovely and light but SUPER cosy. Remember to check out all the colour options.

09.01.2022 The Eri Silk we dyed up with our #Landscapes a few weeks ago has emerged as a beautiful lace weight yarn! Resident #Kraftkolour spinner Nicole is mightily impressed with the final results, the colour is still intense, the long staple makes it easier to spin very fine and after its setting the twist, its extremely soft! Were debating what we should knit with this, maybe a light singlet for summer or it would be a great Christmas gift for a knitter? What do you guys think?

08.01.2022 For Xmas lots of our Spinners are stocking up on fibre and wheels - this Kromski Polonaise is heading up to NSW for a new home with Pauline who is the girls absolute favorite. She is in her 90's and been spinning for 40 years. As you can see a lot of love went with the wheel.

08.01.2022 Were extending the 'Landscapes' brand to include some 19 micron coloured blends based on the different colour ways here are some pics of our first babies including some rolags by Diamond Pirate. The tops are already live in the cart - soon to come rolags and hand dyed prefelts to match. Hope you like them as much as we do - so fun.

08.01.2022 We're gearing up for our Summer break and cant wait to see all the orders flying out to you before Xmas. The last day we will process orders is Thursday 19th December and then Friday a big tidy and off for our staff lunch at "Eos' our local Greek Tavern.

08.01.2022 Seems a bit odd (where did 2020 go?) but were getting some Xmas kits organised as part of our new 'Create At Home' Category - these are a few cotton and linen tea towels stencilled with our Opulence Embellishment Inks. Kit includes 3 inks in different colour ways, 2 stencil brushes and a tea towel of your choice to kick start you. Such a simple activity taken to another place with glorious metallic washable inks and quality tea towels. You have the option of buying extra tea ...towels and stencils from us but we've just used stencils from K Mart and Cedar Canyon. The inks will work on anything including unfinished wood and even felt then simply heat set with a dry iron. Suggest you buy a 5mm foam sheet - it makes a great printing surface - just waiting on some new stencils to arrive before we make these active so you can set yourself up with everything you need. Being in Covid lockdown has opened lots of doors for creativity at home (there has to be some positives we can take away from this) - this is something you can do yourself, with your kids or give as a gift and who doesn't love a flash tea towel? See more

07.01.2022 Here are the rest of our Landscapes 19 micron coloured blends & rolags to match.

05.01.2022 The fruits of our labour - carded mixed blends of our Landscapes Dyes Elements colour themes in 19 micron wool from DHG. We're beyond pleased with these and seeing it from concept to practice has been a very reaffirming experience - they are everything we hoped for and more

05.01.2022 Its Monday - welcome to my world FYI - all Procion Dyes are made in Asia, repacked, renamed and branded by different companies. They are not toxic. There are no Procion Dyes made in the USA , Europe, & Australia. Their correct nomenclature [name] is Procion MX - we try to give them their correct names unless they're mixture shades. There are 16 pure, homogeneous Procion Dyes which are listed on our basic facts sheet with the dyes on our shopping cart. Every other colour is a... mixture of those dyes or has been seconded from another range of Reactives [usually Blacks]. Australian Procions from Kraftkolour are not inferior to other branded Procions coming out of the USA or the UK, they are identical. You can refer to Paula Burches site to compare different names and brands http://www.pburch.net/dyeing/FAQ/pureMXcolors.shtml Knowledge is power, understand what you are using and may the force be with you in your dyeing journey., Bonny XXX See more

04.01.2022 Hi there - happy to say we finally have full stocks of silk scarves and fabrics again after a long and stressful wait - YAY!!! Also couldn't resist these Amigurimi Kits from DHG in Italy - Amigurumi is the Japanese art of crocheting or knitting small animals or human like creatures. The name comes from the combination of the words ami, meaning knitted or crocheted, and nuigurumi which means stuffed dolls. Keep creating and stay safe

03.01.2022 Heads up anyone who buys dye from us and finds things aren't going according to plan - our dyes are all industry standard sourced from accredited suppliers. Apart from the natural dyes which can have a bit of a mind of their own - if you follow our recipes they should be working for you. If you run into problems dyeing - please contact us and we will trouble shoot for you. We have 30 years experience in dye tech and realise its easy to overlook a step and have things go pear... shaped - nothing worse. Here is a step by step for our Natural Indigo [which is Certified Organic * GOTS approved] Each pic has a short explanation. Next time you decide to immerse yourself in Blue, have no fear - we are here to help make it a successful experience.[* Global Organic Textile Standard]. Detailed instructions in the cart with the product or happy to send some via email. See more

03.01.2022 Corona Virus update - treasured friends and customers - all hands on deck to process your cart orders today and hoping we can continue to trade and keep your creative juices flowing. Our little shop will be closed but hoping we can still do phone, email and shopping cart orders. Will keep you updated. Take care of yourselves and may the force be with you

02.01.2022 Good news is the Landscapes Threaded Colour Charts are done and on their way to all our stockists - the best way to get a feel for the colours are dyed samples. These will also be available to our dyers next year when we have more stock. We love the art work for these new dyes - its so fresh and cheery.

01.01.2022 Coming up to end of school year and we're seeing some amazing creativity with kids and our Procions. These belong to St Raphaels in Preston Vic - epic success with some year 7-8's. Presoak the tees with Soda Ash, dyed with Squeeze Bottles, into a zip lock bag overnight and washed off the next day
