25.01.2022 Year 2 stepped back into the past with an exciting and educational excursion to the NSW Schoolhouse Museum at North Ryde. The original schoolroom was built in 1877 for 45 pupils with extra rooms built in 1893 and 1910. The students agreed that although it was an enjoyable day, education is much more fun in 2021. They were all relieved to escape the cane! They wrote on slate boards using fancy cursive letters, practised embroidery, played jacks, created their own toys, used a ...hectograph to print worksheets, and more! "My favourite part of the excursion was the treasure hunt for olden day objects." Stanley 2 Blue "I loved the sewing because we had to pull out the thread to make a pattern." Chloe 2 Red "It was great fun writing with ink because I have never tried it before." Mya 2 White

25.01.2022 Award winner! Congratulations to Year 3's Sebastien for receiving the ICAS English Award for NSW. He achieved the highest score in English in the state for a Year 3 student. Sebastien discussed what he enjoyed about the online examination and advice he has for students sitting it. ... "I feel excited because it's a representation of my hard work during ICAS. I love ICAS because it's an extension of what you would normally do in school and it's a really big challenge. Students taking the examination should read each questions carefully and answer every question." #icasmedalwinner

24.01.2022 "For the sake of one child, I would have founded the Society." Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat, foundress of the Society of the Sacred Heart. In these photos, Year 7's Allegra and Josephine stand in the Sacred Heart Tunnel, constructed in 1931 and refurbished in 2017. It features a beautiful mural with the above quote and Madeleine Sophie's image. In 1800 Madeleine Sophie founded the Society of the Sacred Heart, with the purpose to make known the love of God revealed in the Hea...rt of Christ and take part in the restoration of Christian life in France through the education of young women. By the time of her death in 1865, Madeleine Sophie guided an international community of 3,359 women, inspired by a deeply held spiritual ideal and offering education to women in Europe, North Africa and North and South America (and soon after, Australia). She was canonised in 1925.

24.01.2022 On Wednesday 23 Sept, Year 11 participated in their first yoga session led by Kate Kendall, AKA ActiveYogi (KRB 1997). 24.01.2022 Year 12 students, in unusual dress, were surprised with dozens of cookies baked and delivered by Niamh Tomlinson (Head of Wellbeing Class of 2018) today. Thank you Niamh! The banner was created by Mary Franklin, Amelia Stynes and Aophie Melrose. Year 12 will finish formal classes this Friday, before commencing Study Week ne...xt week. Not long to go! Shout-out to Gloria who drew an incredible picture of the school on her coveralls.

23.01.2022 Today's #FeatureFriday profiles Claudia Graham, Head of Boarding SRC, who hails from a village called Coolac, near Gundagai. What are your priorities for your leadership as Head of Boarding SRC? As a leader in the boarding school, I want to be able to give back to the loving community that welcomed me with loving arms when I began in Year 7. ... Personally, community is the most important aspect of the KRB boarding house, and being able to build on this community is an important priority as it is a foundation that needs everyone's input to be successful. The community at KRB provides boarders with a loving, welcoming environment, and as a leader I want to strengthen this to ensure every single boarder feels as welcome as I did when I began. What are you most excited about your role? I am most excited about working with all of the year groups in the boarding house to strengthen the networking between each year. I am also looking forward to bringing new initiatives to the KRB community and leaving my mark. Tell us about your hometown and how it compares to Sydney. I am from a small country town, Gundagai and I live on a farm an hour out of town. I went to St Patrick's School in Gundagai that had less than 100 students. After coming to KRB, with just under 100 girls in every year, it was certainly a big change. Having the contrast of the city to the country is something I really value and love because I am getting the best of both worlds. What do you most enjoy about boarding at Kincoppal-Rose Bay? What I most enjoy about boarding at KRB is the vast range of opportunities I am provided with. Being in a location where I am so close to the water and having afternoon swimming in the beach is something really enjoyable. Another opportunity is the friendships I have. This is something that KRB has given to me that I will never forget.

23.01.2022 It was a beautiful sunny day at Kincoppal Rose Bay for the first day of Term 4 and the students were happy to be back.

22.01.2022 Year 11 started their retreat today with dancing on the Harbour Terrace led by Ms Daff. Throughout the day they reflected on their leadership qualities, their role in the KRB community and the importance of Cor Unum spirit. They also had a discussion with Ms Ryan on effective leadership and Sacred Heart values, and visited special places on campus, including the Chapel, Noviceship Lawn, Sacred Heart Statue, Grotto and cemetery. The students will continue their retreat tomorrow.

21.01.2022 We interviewed students across campus about their hopes for 2021 and their thoughts on this year's Sacred Heart goal: A Personal and Active Faith in God. Today we feature Junior School students. See anyone familiar? Here's what they had to say!

21.01.2022 Today's #WhereAreTheyNow? post features Anna Fernon, an alumna from Wagga Wagga who graduated from Kincoppal-Rose Bay alongside sister Madeleine in 2011. Her older sisters Bernadette (2008) and Sophia (2009) are also alumna. This continues our profiles of alumna in the health professions. In these, they’ll discuss their careers and how they've managed COVID-19. "This year, I am working as a Medical Registrar (Basic Physician Trainee) at The Prince of Wales Hospital and S...ydney Hospital, and earlier this year I was seconded to Shellharbour Hospital for three months. While we have been lucky to keep COVID-19 case numbers low in NSW, this pandemic has still had wide-reaching impacts on our patients. Some examples are quite visible, such as less access to face-to-face consultations with doctors (which is especially challenging for non-English speaking people) as well as suspended or delayed surgeries and diagnostics tests. Other examples are less noticeable, such as many elderly people having fewer visits from friends and family, and some community-nurses and other community supports being temporarily cancelled. This has led to many hospital admissions that under normal circumstances could have been avoided. Loneliness is more of a concern than ever, and I hope that we can all keep an eye out for our neighbours and elderly relatives especially this year. At times there have been shortages of personal protective equipment, including masks, hand sanitiser, and even toilet paper in the hospital. When the pandemic was first breaking out overseas, I was worried that I was going to have to make decisions about which patients would have access to potentially life-saving treatments and which would not. Fortunately, we have not had to face that situation, so I want to thank every person that has made personal sacrifices to help flatten the curve.

20.01.2022 Congratulations to Kincoppal-Rose Bay's Year 6 students who, along with their families and teachers, celebrated their graduation yesterday.

20.01.2022 Well done to Alex O'Gorman (Year 10), the Artist of the Month for April for this amazing self-portrait drawn with charcoal

20.01.2022 Two pilots who fly for Virgin Australia Airlines, Ken and Geoff, have been working as crossing supervisors at the Junior School this term. On Wednesday 23 September Ken and Geoff donned their uniforms and spoke to Year 5 and 6 students about their profession, the planes theyve flown and the places theyve been. Year 5 have been studying forces in science lessons and Year 6 have been studying communication, so the presentations were tailored to focus on those topics. The stu...dents were enthralled by Ken and Geoffs stories of their careers, and there were many questions for both. The gentlemen even flew some paper aeroplanes with Year 6 after their discussion. We are thrilled to have Ken and Geoff with us for the next couple of months, and they have immersed themselves fully in our school, assisting with Saturday Sport in addition to their weekly AM and PM crossing duties. 19.01.2022 Creating Art with Robots! Year 2 students created artworks inspired by Jackson Pollock, but using an unusual method. They pondered the question 'How could Jackson Pollock paint using technology?' ... The students shared their answers before pairing their iPads with Spheros, which are small spherical programmable robots. They dipped the Spheros, which were protected with covers, into the paint to create their artwork. Very creative!

18.01.2022 Today's #ThrowbackThursday photo depicts two girls fencing at Rose Bay Convent in the 1960s. Competitive sport between girls' schools was uncommon for the first 25 years after the school's founding in 1882, but 'games' were very popular, particularly cricket. Other games were tennis, rounders and flags. The playing fields were levelled in 1913, at which time tennis courts and basketball courts were installed.... The school experienced many tennis successes from 1925 to 1930. Interstate tennis matches began in 1950 when, by way of celebrating the Society of the Sacred Heart’s 150th anniversary, Rose Bay Convent invited Melbourne’s Sacre Coeur to a tennis tournament at Rose Bay. The pool was built in 1934-35, the gift of Lady Blanche Sheldon (RB 1886-91), who donated over 3000 for its construction. We're not so sure when fencing was introduced at Rose Bay Convent. Leila Barlow's book Living Stones provided some of this information.

17.01.2022 Today's #ThrowbackThursday post features photos from a 29 November 2016 photoshoot with current and former students showcasing some of the school's photographic and coding equipment.

15.01.2022 Kincoppal-Rose Bay students have been enjoying the warm sunny weather lately and their teachers are holding some of their lessons outside, like this recent PD/H/PE lesson that was held on the Noviceship Lawn, during which the students performed health-related drama performances.

13.01.2022 As part of our #WhereAreTheyNow? series, we are going to profile alumni working in the medical professions, or pursuing medicine-related courses. Today we profile Sophie Dawson (Class of 2011), who is working and living in Wagga Wagga. Over the last four years, I have lived in Wagga Wagga where I completed medical school and went on to become a junior medical officer.... My journey to regional NSW first began in Year 12 when a KRB family from Wagga Wagga invited me to the Picnic Races. In the third year of my degree I was given the opportunity of working and studying there and have fallen in love with this community. Working in a regional town offers vast experiences and challenges as we work without many of the resources available in large metropolitan hospitals. Nevertheless, Wagga Wagga Base Hospital is a large 325 bed referral hospital and offers most of the specialist services provided in the larger cities. It is a great privilege to provide healthcare to patients in Wagga Wagga and the wider Murrumbidgee area and I hope to continue practising within rural NSW once I have finished my physician training.

Two of the Year 6 Wellbeing Leaders, Sienna and Charlie, helped direct this video, which emphasises the importance of asking people if they're okay, what can cause people to feel not okay, and what can help people when they're not feeling their best.

05.01.2022 On ANZAC Day, we reflect on the contribution of the Rose Bay and Kincoppal School communities to the war efforts during the Second World War, and the impact of the war on the schools. One of the main wartime undertakings centred at Rose Bay was the making of 149 Mass kits for army chaplains (some pictured here in what is now the PAC). Alumnae and friends of the school contributed to the making of vestments and altar linen, the purchase of lightweight sacred vessels and the pr...oduction of a lightweight missal. Strong, lightweight suitcases with water proof covers were also purchased to store and transport the Mass kits, which enabled chaplains and priests in military camps, on troop ships sailing to the front and on the frontline to celebrate Mass. In a letter, printed in the Rose Bay Association’s 1941 Magazine, Chaplain BH Watson wrote of the consolation the Mass kits gave to the troops.

03.01.2022 Kristina Mahony, the subject of today's #WhereAreTheyNow? post, began her schooling at Kincoppal-Rose Bay's ELC (where the second photo was taken) in 2000 and graduated Year 12 in 2013. Thanks for sharing these reflections on your many years at KRB and your impressive career achievements so far Kristina What have you done academically and professionally since you left KRB? After KRB I went to study Mechatronic and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Sydney. During ...University I gained professional experience interning with Engineers Without Borders, Pollinate Group (social enterprise empowering women through clean energy) and Westmead Hospital. In my final year I received a scholarship to write my thesis with Accenture Technology in Machine Learning. Since University I have been working at Accenture Technology as a Software Engineer and Solution Architect, where I get to work with great people to design and build interesting and new technology. 2. How did your time at KRB benefit you after you left? My time at KRB showed me the importance of community and how much is possible when people work together at a common goal. The values I was taught at KRB built a foundation and I have since developed a strong passion for technology that can bring about positive social change. I had amazing teachers who helped me develop a strong sense of curiosity about the world and encouraged me to study engineering, for which I am very much grateful. At school we were empowered to achieve our goals, a mindset that has definitely benefited me when navigating the challenges of working in industry as a woman in STEM. I feel very lucky to be part of KRBs strong community and Im thankful for all the lifelong friends Ive made who still support and encourage me today. 3. What are your favourite memories from school? Looking back at my time at KRB I have too many fond memories to list. Some of the highlights would be: running around assembly dressed as the Lorax (with co-environment captain Lucia May), existential debates on the laws of physics (the class vs Mr Saurine), and watching The Prince of Egypt in Dr ONeills Religion classes. I really loved all the mother-daughter lunches and father-daughter dinners they were very special and definitely have been missed!

02.01.2022 It's a celebration! Today our Year 6 students and their families and teachers celebrated their graduation (photos to come!). Today's #ThrowbackThursday photos hark back to the Year 6 graduation event in 2010.

01.01.2022 Today Year 12 wore their 'formal' dresses to school and had a lunch on the Dunphy Foundation Outdoor Learning Space and a celebration on the Harbour Terrace, on what is their last day of formal classes. It wasn't quite a traditional formal, but it was a lot of fun. Tilly and Sarah even wore the same dresses their mothers did at their own formals. Thanks to Taryn Gilmore for the fantastic photos

01.01.2022 Kincoppal-Rose Bay’s UN Club is being led by Year 12’s Natalia Soncini, who is enjoying the debates and camaraderie in each session. "Each Thursday, an enthusiastic group of global-minded students meet at lunchtime for U.N. Club to discuss, debate and share opinions on current issues in the world. These issues include the very important topics of climate change, world conflict, social media, and politics. This term we have run a mock election, where each group made political ...party addresses to sway their peers by presenting their ‘political stance’. In the exciting weeks to come we will be preparing to run a mock U.N. meeting which will include researching the current countries on the U.N. security council. We look forward to the open-ended, thought-provoking discussions to come!"

01.01.2022 The hard-working and dedicated members of Choir & Orchestra in Year 12 are normally farewelled from the extra-curricular Music life of the school at a function following Chapel Concert. This year, as the Concert was unable to be held, they were farewelled with a morning tea in the PAC. Two of the girls present, Mary Franklin & Natasha Ong, commenced in Junior Choir when in Year 3 with many others joining over the passing years. Mr Stubley reflected on some of the many funct...ions the girls had been involved with during their time in Choir & Orchestra that included School and Family Masses, Celebration of Achievement, Chapel Concert, Carols Night, Cathedral Masses, Night of Song, Assemblies, Weddings, Sandwiches & Song and even an overseas tour to Vienna. Mr Stubley said these girls have given of themselves in service to the school by sharing their wonderful gift of Music. This has always been done in a spirit of community and great Cor Unum. Lets hope that in their life beyond school they can continue their love of music making. We will need them back tuned up and in good voice in 2032 for the schools Sesquicentenary.
