09.01.2022 How to PREVENT mould! As we all know prevention takes a lot less energy than trying to cure a problem. This is no less true with mould. Mould loves moist, humi...d conditions which of course is exactly what our South East Queensland bathrooms are in these summer months. The best way to counteract these conditions is to increase air ventilation. Simply put, keep your bathroom window open during and after showering. Secondly, I recommend wiping the water from the tiled walls, floor and glass screens of your shower after using it. Microfibre tea towels are effective for this and can be cheaply purchased from most supermarkets, Kmart and Big W. This may sound like a lot of fuss but it really takes little time or effort and certainly a lot less than required to get rid of mould once it takes a hold. Finally, to help prevent mould in the shower you can spray on a solution of Oil of Cloves on to the tiles of the shower once a week. All you need is a plastic spray bottle and Oil of Cloves. A good brand for Oil of Cloves is Oil Garden, which is available at Chemist Warehouse for $21. A photo of this brand is added below. ABC Local Radio's cleaning expert Shannon Lush recommends 1/4 teaspoon of oil of cloves per litre of water in a spray bottle. Lightly mist on, leave overnight and wipe off. I leave the bathroom window open as the clove scent is reasonably strong. There is a ready made solution which is available from the health food store in Victoria Point. The brand name is Vrindavan and is a anti-fungal and anti-septic mould solution. Stay tune for the next post.
