24.01.2022 Kondil Wildflower Walk in Nannup - images edited today and photographed last Friday. So much variety. #thisiswa, #wanderoutyonder, #australiasouthwest, #nannup, #wasouthwest, #wawildflowers,

24.01.2022 I thoroughly enjoyed staying at Karri Valley Resort for the first time last week. I loved the trees across from the restaurant at night lit up. I experienced a lovely sunrise last Friday, it was worth getting up early to experience and photograph. #southernforestsandvalleys, #wanderoutyonder, #australiasouthwest, #thisiswa, #karrivalleyresort,

23.01.2022 Davison Orchards in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada. I loved this place and was amazed at the variety of pumpkins and squash. Denise and I went on a tractor/train ride around the orchards and stopped for people to pick apples, which were in season. I loved looking through their shop, so much wonderful produce. A stop on our girls road trip. Edited today and photographed 2018.

23.01.2022 Fort St John, British Columbia in Canada. On this particular day Denise and I were out driving and came across these two harvesters busily trying to complete the harvest as it was about to rain. I was rapt that we were able to get so close and that they did not mind being photographed. Photographed 2018, edited today.

23.01.2022 Provence day tour. Our driver stopped at these two magnificent structures and I was so in awe. We seemed to be in the middle of nowhere and they sit near a country road. They are just so wonderful. Our driver stopped for us to have a look and only intended to stay at this spot a few minutes. Both myself and other man wanted to stay a little longer and photograph so we did and then caught up at the next stop close by. So glad that I got to spend enough time to take the images ...I wanted to have a good look at these wonderful works of art. Jules Mausoleum This funerary monument dates from 30-20 BC. It was built by the Julii, a big family belonging to the native elite, in honour of their father and grandfather. The Triumphal Arch Dating from around 20 AD, it quickly lost its pediment and the present-day roof dates from the 18th century. It is adorned with very beautiful bas-reliefs illustrating the conquest of Gaul by Caesar. The fruits and foliage, symbols of abundance, elude to the benefits of the Pax Romana. Edited today and photographed 2018.

23.01.2022 Roussillion - more images from this great village in Provence France. Images edited today and photographed 2018.

22.01.2022 Bijoux Falls Provincial Park, British Columbia, Canada. A stop on the road trip with Denise. The very pretty Stellar's Jay birds were a delight to see and photograph, the images are cropped as I did not have my birding lens handy. Photographed 2018, edited the past two days.

22.01.2022 Gordes - a pretty village in Provence France. The little hilltop villages are so picturesque and have lots of character. One of the stops on a Provence day tour. Images edited today and photographed 2018.

21.01.2022 As photographers know too well they can be at the mercy of the weather gods. How many times have plans been spoiled by wind, clouds or even rain? We are glad th...at Helena Kristel, one of our exhibitors braved the rain on a trip to Bow River, Banff in the Canadian Rockies to shoot - Moody Majestic Mountains. "We headed out for a sunset shoot, but never saw the sun set as it was raining. I normally do not shoot in the rain so I was totally outside my comfort zone, but as I was part of the group, there was no way I was going to miss the shoot." This image recently won her a gold award at her camera club for the category "Mood of the Weather". We can see why! For more of Helena's photographs head to her Facebook and website Kristel Photography and http://www.kristelphotography.com.au The SHOTS Photo Exhibition is only 30 DAYS away (running from Friday 22nd November until Sunday 6th December), so add it to your calendars. 21.01.2022 Remarkables Kangaroo Island. It took 500 million years for rain, wind, and pounding waves to create these aptly named granite boulders which are now part of the Flinders Chase National Park. I visited these remarkable rocks early in the day and was fortunate there were not too many tourists, at first I had the place to myself. It was very windy and I had to be mindful as it had rained so a little slippery. I really enjoyed spending time here.

21.01.2022 Avignon - more festival images and images of the Popes Palace and surrounds photographed late in the day, with beautiful golden light. Edited today and photographed 2 years ago.

20.01.2022 Avignon - Hotel Miranda, cooking class. I had the best experience being with these two wonderful chefs and learning from them. I had to get some pics though and while I took some images with my phone I also took some with my camera. Yesterday, I edited these images. I was the only student which was a bonus with two chefs who spoke English thankfully. And after my class, I joined other diners for a most memorable dinner. And one chef was also a great entertainer which added to a wonderful evening. I love to cook my carrots the way I learnt that day. Photographed 2018.

20.01.2022 Cape Borda Lighthouse, Kangaroo Island. I loved the uniqueness of this lighthouse. I don't remember ever seeing a square shaped lighthouse before. It was not what I was expecting, but I liked it. I had quite a walk to the lighthouse as the road was closed, it was well worth the effort on a sunny day. I did not see anyone as I walked around photographing. The lighthouse is perched on cliffs overlooking Investigator Strait and has a very interesting history. It was built in 1858, and is the third oldest remaining in South Australia. It is also the only square stone lighthouse in South Australia. It was built to guide sailing ships arriving off the Roaring Forty trade-winds and into the Investigator Straits and on to Adelaide. Edited today and photographed last year.

20.01.2022 I really loved joining Wendy Eiby on the pre and post convention wildflower tagalong trips whilst in Pemberton over last weekend. I have edited a few of the wildflowers today. #southernforestsandvalleys, #wanderoutyonder, #australiasouthwest, #thisiswa, #wawildflowers, #wapf, #photowest2020

20.01.2022 The magnificent Wedge-tailed eagle photographed at Raptor Domain on Kangaroo Island last year. What a fabulous bird of prey. Images edited today. #shotsphotoexhibition

20.01.2022 Avignon - predawn and sunrise shoot, photographed from across the Rhone River. An early start certainly has its rewards, although I find it difficult to get up early. Edited today and photographed 2018.

19.01.2022 Avignon - Interior of a beautiful old church behind the Popes Palace and from the festival. Images edited yesterday and photographed 2 years ago. That tapestry was enormous and so impressive.

19.01.2022 Kings Park - today I edited the last images from my wander around Kings Park on Friday. So many varieties of native flora, it is such a delight to see and photograph them. I love getting a shallow depth of field and I am very happy with the results from my challenge with the 70-200mm lens.

19.01.2022 Kelly Hill Caves - Kangaroo Island. Edited today and photographed last year. The name of Kelly Hill Caves is a result of the story on how it was discovered. In 1880 a local stockman called Kelsy, who was in pursuit of sheep that had strayed from his property was riding his trusty horse named Kelly, they both fell into one of the big sink holes in the area. Kelsy managed to climb out, but he had to leave Kelly to get help. He returned soon with help to rescue the horse, but it was gone.

19.01.2022 Situated in the easternmost point of Kangaroo Island, Cape Willoughby Lighthouse was the first lighthouse to be built in South Australia in 1852. Images edited today and photographed last year. It was the first place I visited when I left the ferry terminal in my hire car, it was very windy. Loved the view of the lighthouse from the road driving to it.

18.01.2022 Sunflowers are such gorgeous delightful sunny flowers, they make me smile. Today, I edited a range of sunflower images photographed while in British Columbia on a road trip with my friend Denise in 2018. Denise took me to this field of sunflowers and I remember feeling excited, the flowers were stunning and the light was really good particularly as it was in the middle of the day. I had so much fun photographing them. Sometimes, I like to use the Paint filter in Photoshop to give my images a painted look. This is the first time I have posted images with using this filter.

18.01.2022 Avignon - images edited last night and today, photographed 2018. I love walled cities, so I took a few images of the wall encasing Avignon. I also went for a walk on Pont Saint-Bénézet, the famous bridge. Also edited, a few buildings in Avignon.

18.01.2022 Avignon sunrise. Images edited today and photographed 2018.

17.01.2022 Today I received my latest photobook - Adventures in Provence France 2018 - Avignon, Arles, Villeneuve-les-Avignon and beyond. It is a beautiful 240page book printed by BLURB.

16.01.2022 Williams Lake and McLeese Lake, British Columbia, Canada. These images were taken with the long lens which gives me a much closer perspective. I just loved the light early morning in Williams Lake and the fog at McLeesh Lake provided for interesting images which had added interest with the man fishing in his dinghy. Across from McLeese Lake were Canadian Geese and Sandhill Cranes, beautiful birds. Photographed 2018 whilst on a road trip with Denise and edited yesterday.

16.01.2022 Alberta Canada 2018. Images edited this evening.

16.01.2022 Kings Park today. I took my 70-200 lens to challenge myself to take wildflower images with a longer lens rather than the lens I would normally use - a macro. I have uploaded my images and edited a few. The everlastings were gorgeous and so colourful.

16.01.2022 Turner Homestead and George's Castle, Kangaroo Island. George Turner is a 3rd generation islander who is retired and has a hobby for all visitors and locals to the island to enjoy. Located near Emu Bay on the North Coast Road, George's property is difficult to miss. A castle with Vikings, Kangaroos, Boomerangs, Witches, a Christmas Display and more. I noticed this very interesting property and decided to stop and take a look, it was wonderful and would appeal to young and old. Images edited today and photographed 2019.

16.01.2022 SHOTS Photography Exhibition. This is the link to my exhibits, let me know which is your favourite. And have a look at other exhibitors photography, there is a wonderful variety of genres.... Please feel free to share this post, it would be much appreciated if you do. https://www.shotsphotoexhibition.com.au/ph/helena-kristel/

15.01.2022 Pennington Bay, Kangaroo Island. I saw quite a bit of the coastline while on Kangaroo Island and visited this picturesque spot on my last day. I am so glad that I decided to drive to the bay, it was stunning. Edited today and photographed in 2019.

15.01.2022 Kings Park. What a magnificent park we have in our city of Perth and it is so accessible , and yet I do not visit it very often. I am so glad that I visited 2 Fridays recently. Last Friday the route was quite different to the week before and it was lovely to explore more of the park. Here are some images that were photographed on Friday and edited today.

14.01.2022 Yesterday I travelled to York in WA with a good friend, today I edited these images. On the way, we stopped to look at the beautiful canola, it was pretty. The town of York is lovely, friendly and has beautiful architecture. We had a very relaxed day and the weather was perfect. We stopped on the way back as the light was beautiful on the bush and wildflowers. I spotted some orchids and took a few pics, although I did not have my macro lens with me, so made do with my 24-70mm lens. It was a lovely day out in our local area.

14.01.2022 I have started editing images from a road trip I did with my friend Denise from Calgary in Alberta to Fort St John in British Columbia. Denise drove to Calgary and spent a little time there prior to heading off on our road trip. It was fantastic, the scenery breathtaking and the trip a lot of fun. These images edited today were taken in Alberta in 2018.

13.01.2022 Heart Lake Provincial Park, British Columbia, Canada. I loved all the places where we stopped on our road trip, such scenic spots. I was always aware though that there could be bears in the area. We did see some black bears - a mother and 2 cubs. We stopped, I took a few pics from the car, they were in the distance and unfortunately I did not have my long lens handy, so the shots are not the best, but it was great to see them. Several of these images are panorama images made from several images to create a panorama of the lake. It is often impossible to capture what we see in one image. Photographed 2018, images edited this week.

13.01.2022 Gordes in Provence, France. A few more images edited yesterday and photographed 2 years ago. A lovely hilltop village.

13.01.2022 Pics taken on the roadtrip with Denise, majestic mountains, beautiful lakes, fabulous scenery. I am so very glad that I had this opportunity. British Columbia, Canada. Photographed 2018, images edited this week.

12.01.2022 Kingscote Kangaroo Island. I stopped on the way into town as the sky was amazing. And then I quickly parked in town and tried to find a viewpoint to try and capture the fabulous sunset. It was my first time in Kingscote so I had no idea where to head. Edited today, photographed 2019.

12.01.2022 Last Saturday I participated in a birding photography workshop with Georgina Steytler at Karri Valley Resort in Pemberton. It was great to get tips from Georgina and then walking around the resort capturing these images. I love Kookaburras and there were several at the resort. #southernforestsandvalleys, #wanderoutyonder, #wapf, #thisiswa, #australiasouthwest, #photowest2020

12.01.2022 Avignon - The Calvet Museum (musée Calvet) is the main museum in Avignon. I visited one day and enjoyed looking at the exhibits and photographing some. I forgot though that the museum closes for lunch, so I was quite rushed to try and get through it. Images edited today and photographed 2018.

12.01.2022 More images from the girls road trip in Alberta, beautiful mountains and old growth cedar forest. Edited today and photographed in 2018.

11.01.2022 Fontaine-de-Vaucluse is a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. The name Vaucluse comes from the Latin phrase vallis clausa or "closed valley". I loved having a look through this very picturesque village and enjoyed looking through the paper museum and going to the source of the natural spring. Edited today and photographed 2018.

11.01.2022 On Thursday Master T had his 2 month shoot. He was a little unsettled so the shoot didn't quite go to plan, but we got some cute shots.

11.01.2022 Les Baux-de-Provence is a commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of Southern France. It has a spectacular position in the Alpilles mountains, set atop a rocky outcrop that is crowned with a ruined castle overlooking the plains to the south. We also stopped to see some sunflowers. These are images edited today and were the remainder from this lovely village. These are the last of the images from the Provence day trip to be edited and also the last from my 10 night stay in Avignon 2018. I have very much enjoyed working through my many folders from this trip and will now work on putting a photobook together.

11.01.2022 Today I headed to Kings Park to catch up with a friend. After we parted I headed off with my macro lens and had a lovely time photographing various flora. It rained a bit so there were water drops on some of the plants/flowers and it was mostly overcast which created beautiful even natural light. Such a beautiful park showcasing Western Australian Flora. #shotsphotoexhibition

10.01.2022 This week I stayed on Rottnest Island for the first time. I planned my trip to coincide with a free photographic workshop with Alex Cearns. The workshop was fun and informative and I took on board the tips that Alex gave us and off I went to photograph quokkas. I really enjoyed this challenge and was happy with a variety of images from these cute mammals. I did a lot of walking and photographed at sunrise and sunset and loved photographing the Bathurst Lighthouse. Rottnest is a great place to stay and I look forward to staying again in the future.

10.01.2022 The Pont du Gard is an ancient Roman aqueduct bridge built in the first century AD to carry water over 50 km to the Roman colony of Nemausus. It crosses the river Gardon near the town of Vers-Pont-du-Gard in southern France. The Pont du Gard is the highest of all Roman aqueduct bridges, and one of the best preserved. I was very much looking forward to seeing this wonderful structure and loved seeing and photographing it. Unfortunately there was a time limit and the light was a bit harsh but when on a small group tour one has to make the best of what time and light is available. Edited today and photographed 2018. #shotsphotoexhibition

10.01.2022 Kings Park, a few more images edited today and photographed yesterday. So much variety to see, enjoy and photograph

10.01.2022 Old Wisanger School, Kangaroo Island. The school was opened in 1884. It was built by local farmers as the Wisanger Farmers Assembly Room in 1884, and leased to the Education Department, this simple small building served as a focus of the district’s social life until the 1970s and gave the longest continuous service of any of the schools, until 1945. I really enjoyed walking through the gate and having a look around and inside this quaint building. It no doubt is similar to a lot of small school houses in country areas in Australia. Images edited today and photographed 2019.

10.01.2022 Two Jack Lake in Alberta, Canada. On this morning we got up very early and headed out in the pitch black. The night before it started to snow which was very pretty and also made the ground slippery. We were hoping to capture a sunrise but there was a lot of very low cloud hiding the mountains. It was a pretty and peaceful place and I am thankful that I managed to take some shots prior to slipping and breaking my ankle. I edited these images this afternoon/evening, the trip was in 2018.

09.01.2022 Les Baux-de-Provence is a very picturesque Medieval village at a fortified rocky site between Arles and St Remy-de-Provence. It was one of the villages visited on the Provence day tour. It is quite hilly and had lovely old churches and quaint shops. Edited today and photographed 2018. A piece of history. The Marquisate of Baux was given by the French King Louis XIII to Prince Honoré II of Monaco for his son in accordance with Article IX of the Treaty of Péronne signed on 14 September 1641. HSH Prince Albert II, Marquis of Baux, was given the keys to the city during his visit there with Princess Grace in 1982.

09.01.2022 A few images edited this afternoon from the Raptor Park on Kangaroo Island. It was so good to get close to these birds. Photographed 2019.

06.01.2022 Avignon has a big festival each year and I was unaware of it when I booked my stay. I was there for a few days of the festival, the second half of my time in Avignon. Leading up to the festival starting, there were lots of colourful posters everywhere. Edited yesterday and photographed 2018.

06.01.2022 After completing some other projects, today I started editing more images from my time on Kangaroo Island last year. Such a great place. This particular morning I got up very early and was at the coast as the sun rose. There were a lot of clouds and it rained, but I persevered and happy that I did, the sky was quite dramatic.

06.01.2022 Avignon - early morning light. Images edited today and photographed 2 years ago.

05.01.2022 Cape Du Couedic Lighthouse Kangaroo Island. Edited today and photographed 2019. The other building is where the light fuel was kept which was originally kerosene. The lighthouse was automated and de-staffed when converted to acetylene gas in 1957 and conversion to electricity occurred in 1974. The light lens is made from hand-made crystal. It was dark when I arrived pre-dawn and I was the only person there, it was peaceful.

05.01.2022 Kings Park, images edited today and photographed Friday. There was so much variety on a drizzly day and the light was perfect. The Kookaburra was a bit far off with a macro lens, but it sang and I wanted to take some pics of it. I love using a shallow depth of field to get a soft and diffused background.

05.01.2022 While staying at Karri Valley Resort I walked the loop around Lake Beedalup. I loved this walk in nature and took along my camera and two lenses. I love wildflowers and took my macro lens along and used it on the second half of the walk last Thursday. These are images from that walk. #southernforestsandvalleys, #wanderoutyonder, #karrivalleyresort, #wawildflowers, #thisiswa, #australiasouthwest

05.01.2022 Provence day tour. While I was in Avignon I booked a small group tour and visited a number of places in Provence. It was a good way to get to see local villages and the like. These images are from Roussillon which is situated in the Luberon, at the foot of the Monts de Vaucluse. Roussillon is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Situated in the heart of one of the biggest ochre deposits in the world, Roussillon is famous for its magnificent red cliffs and ochre quarries. Edited today, photographed 2018

01.01.2022 Canmore and Kananaskis area in Alberta, Canada. Images edited today and photographed 2018. I spent the day with my friend Linda who lives in Edmonton, she stayed in the same hotel as me so we could do a couple of day trips local to Calgary. I did not manage to get the later planned experiences in the Rockies and the expected photography.
