25.01.2022 Pain concept #2 There is no pain out there in the world to sense, so why would we have a pain sensor?

25.01.2022 Aaaannnnnnndddddd its Monday again. Hope you took time to recharge over the weekend

25.01.2022 Pain concept #5. Pain "borrows" brain activity from all over the place. It is a network and therefore many things can effect it. Have you ever experienced a time when even getting on the phone and booking the appointment to see your chiropractor (or whoever you see) is enough to ease a little discomfort. Or, When you have been in pain all week and you finally make it to your appointment and your going through your history and you say "this is the best i've felt in weeks, I couldn't touch my toes yesterday!", even though you haven't got to the treatment part yet. This is because your evidence of safety has already kicked in, you're in safe hands, you trust your provider and everything is going to be ok. Pain starts to reduce before any "therapy" is even applied.

25.01.2022 I love this! Social media is great for getting information and news and finding good resources. BUT, it’s a platform where everyone can create and share anything they want, regardless if it’s credible or not. Unfortunately there is sooooooo much misinformation out there, and it’s so easy to get sucked in to the vortex of false claims and misinformation, especially if your vulnerable and looking for help! Let’s stop cherry picking random stuff out there and sharing it just because it sounds ok on face value, or simply aligns with our opinion. Let’s start using some critical thinking when we come across information on social media https://www.who.int//sp/let-s-flatten-the-infodemic-curve

24.01.2022 Patient-centered care means you are at the centre of your own management It means treating the person, not the scan. It means collaborating and working together as a team to achieve your health goals. It means providing care plans and treatment options that are meaningful and valuable to the individual, and includes listening to, informing and involving patients in their own care. We think patient-centered care is pretty important

24.01.2022 And in some lighter news....

24.01.2022 Did you know that doing regular muscle strengthening activities on at least two days each week, can have a number of health benefits? Resistance training is just one form of muscle strengthening activity, have you tried it? What works for you?

23.01.2022 Pain concept #4. Pain is an alarm system that keeps us safe. Without it we would be in serious trouble. Sometimes is gets over protective and we experience pain that is more intense than is appropriate or goes on for longer than is necessary. We can begin to address this by looking at our general wellbeing. Educate to reduce fear of the unknown, surround ourselves with people that are supportive, get some fresh air. Sometimes the best medicine can be a good laugh with best friends in a safe place.

22.01.2022 Pain concept #10. Movement is medicine!

22.01.2022 Please know that I am currently still working from both the Mount Coolum practice on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, and the Nambour practice on Thursday. We are taking extra measures (both myself and the medical centre) to keep you safe and our spaces hygienic. Whether we like it or not we are ALL in this together, and following the advice of the state and federal government and health agencies will help ensure the best outcome for everyone. This is a scary time, but remember to use common sense and act with compassion. Let's try to direct any fear, anger or sadness we may be experiencing into motivation to make positive changes (now and in the future), and bring family, friends and community together for support.

22.01.2022 I just want to say a big CONGRATULATIONS to all the year 12 students that have finished school! What an achievement, what a year! Well done an good luck with new adventures

19.01.2022 UPDATE - Monday 23rd March. I am currently still open and taking appointments but assessing this on a day by day basis. I have spoken to a number of agencies today including QLD health and my chiropractic representative body - Chiropractic Australia, to make sure I am making informed decisions in this very difficult time. I'm taking this very seriously, as should you. I have made a few more changes to general day to day running. ... You can expect a phone call from me the day before your appointment as a reminder (instead of a text). I will also be checking in and making sure you are feeling well, and if you are in-fact feeling even slightly under the weather we can reschedule your appointment to a more appropriate time. If i indeed start to feel unwell - even the slightest sniffle, you can expect a call and I will reschedule my appointment book. Let's face it its a pretty stressful time and my immune system is not bullet proof. I am spacing out appointments so that I have more time for cleaning/sanitising and reducing any waiting times. The Medical Centre has strict procedures in place to keep EVERYONE safe. That includes you, me, the doctors, nurses and our reception staff. Anyone waiting for appointments will be outside, as we are trying to reduce the amount of people accumulating inside. Once you have let reception know you have arrived you can wait outside on the chairs provided, or where ever you feel comfortable. Just as long as I know where to find you! I'm happy to give over the phone advice where I can and for the tech-savy video consults can be arranged if you request it. I feel lucky to have amazing hard working doctors I can consult with to help keep as up to date as possible. I am confident we are all doing our best to ensure the safety of our patients and each other. It is still important to seek help for your pain and/or injury if you need to. If you are putting off making an appointment because you have recently run into financial difficulty please just get in touch anyway and we will do what we can to help. If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to get in touch. 0416 608 685 [email protected] Please take care and look out for each other. Kristen x

18.01.2022 I love this! Whats in your self care solar system? A few of these and maybe some others. Keep smiling and be kind to yourself

18.01.2022 Pain concept #9. Education is key! Knowledge is power! Understanding what is going on in your body reduces the fear of the unknown and that goes a long way in your recovery.

17.01.2022 On a day like today, the 31st of December you just cant help but reflect on the year that was, and set intentions for the new year ahead. I want to send out a heart felt thank you for your support throughout another great year. Im really looking forward to what next year will bring!! I think its also really important to remember that in a world where we can be anything, be kind Have a safe and happy new year! KP x

17.01.2022 Pain concept #6. Be open to new research regarding pain therapy and rehab. Perhaps a "hands on" approach may not be the best thing at this time and sitting down and really listening what what can influence your pain positively and negatively can be more helpful. "Your mind is like a parachute, it doesn't work unless it's open" - Frank Zappa

17.01.2022 Happy Valentines day lovers!

16.01.2022 My latest article follows on from the pain concepts we touched on in the last few weeks. There has also been a bit in the news recently about another type of pain medication Lyrica (pregabalin) and its harmful side effects including anxiety and depression. I am certainly not against medication, I think they are necessary and wonderful when used correctly. But it's important to look at the research, and consider conservative options where possible. https://www.kpchiropractic.com.au//painful-facts-and-what/

16.01.2022 So sorry for the disruption this morning, but we are now back on board!

14.01.2022 Do you find yourself mindlessly scrolling through social medial throughout the day at work? Sending and receiving emails on your phone or even watching a few you tube vids when you can spare a minute or two? I think we are all guilty of this at times, I know I am... New research has shown that smartphone overuse showed a higher prevalence of neck pain than personnel without smartphone overuse. In addition, in this study of 1,602 office workers, 36.6% of the workers show...ed evidence for severe depression, 31.3% severe anxiety, and 36.6% severe stress. All being significantly related to the occurrences of neck pain. Interestingly, those that were physically active had less neck pain! with a linear relationship between the more vigorous the activity the less prevalent the pain. Lets try reduce the amount of time we spend on our smart phones, for our neck and for our health!

14.01.2022 Looking for ways to be more active but dont know where to start? Have you considered incorporating walking into your routine? Walking is great because it's sui...table for people of all ages and fitness levels, can improve balance, maintain muscles and bones, is free and can be an opportunity to stay socially connected. Call a friend and organise a regular time to get walking! #WeWalkQueensland

14.01.2022 Pain concept #3. Hurt does not necessarily equal harm. Pain is actually a very poor predictor of tissue injury. Remember, you can be sore but safe!

13.01.2022 Pain concept #8. It was once thought that the neurons in our brains were hardwired and unable to change. We now know that this couldn't be further from the truth! Our brains are constantly changing and adapting in response to our environment and has an incredible ability to heal!

13.01.2022 Do you stretch before you run? Research shows that static stretching does not prevent injury as we once thought (or assumed?). It won't hurt you though, so if you like stretching keep doing it. Before exercise you should WARM UP, which should reflect the activity that we are about to do . Some ideas are outlines in the infographic below.

11.01.2022 Pain concept #7. In response to acute danger, adrenal glands will release adrenaline and cortisol, which will switch on and turn systems needed for survival and close down systems no needed. In chronic danger these outputs change, become edgy and lead to wide spread problems throughout our whole body. Some changes include (but are not limited to)... chronic pain, altered body perception, anxiety and fear, poor digestion, low libido, depression, affected memory, tight achy muscles, rigid jerky movement and difficulty learning new movements, difficulty sleeping, increased blood pressure, restlessness, frequent worrying, loss of creative thinking, shallow breathing, shortness of breath, reduced immunity.... the list goes on!
