23.01.2022 Seasons Greetings, Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all. Enjoy your break, see you in 2021!

21.01.2022 So for those who aren’t aware, Google has been in discussions with the Australian Government in relation to their involvement with how media is consumed by readers. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) found that they were monopolising due to the nature of a significant bargaining power imbalance between Australian news media businesses and Google and Facebook. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? ACCC says this isn’t fair. So The Australian Government has asked Google t...o start paying for the content that they essentially get for free. They don’t go out and do the work to get the information, newsrooms and journalists do. A healthy news media sector is essential to a well-functioning democracy. The proposal would force tech giants to pay local media companies for providing their content in search and sharing their content on social media. They didn’t like that too much. They say it would "dismantle a free and open service that's been built to serve everyone". Google is threatening to end the relationship with Australia - and we haven’t been told to what extent. WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH VAs? This has potential implications for anyone who uses the search engine, runs a business which leverages the features of Google and G Suite (including Gmail, Drive and it’s other cloud applications) and anyone who owns and uses Android devices. For us who work in the virtual environment it is an important part of our business models as we could lose our ability to provide services, lose time and other tangible assets in reworking or shifting platforms and potential loss of work as a result of being bogged down with backlogs. OH... NOW WHAT? Today the CEO of Googles parent company Alphabet which apparently went well. Microsoft has publicly agreed to back the Commonwealth's media bargaining code, suggesting its search engine Bing could fill the gap if Google follows through on its threat to leave the Australian market. Let’s see what happens next. Your move, Google.
