21.01.2022 Let’s enjoy some nice weather this week

21.01.2022 In late October, 1914, 20,000 Australians and 10,000 New Zealanders gathered at Albany. On November 1, they set off to join the Allied war effort. They sailed t...ogether from Albany and fought side-by-side in World War I. Many of them did not make it home. This photo shows a detachment of Victorian soldiers marching along York Street. 20.01.2022 BLUFF KNOLL CABLE CAR PLAN Update: Yep! It’s April Fools Day - we didn’t fool many of you! A cable car will operate to the summit of Bluff Knoll in a major ...tourism boost for the Great Southern. The cable car will be built by the end of the year and include eight cars able to hold 12 people in each, operating all year round to the 1099m summit. The idea is backed by independent business group, Australian Project Regional Industry Limited. A spokesman for the company said "it will give tourists terrific views across the peak and Stirling Range National Park, while reducing the number of hiking injuries".

15.01.2022 A Wintery walk on a Summers Day Hey I'm not complaining, I like the cooler weather, it's a great opportunity to get out and explore Lake Seppings, or Tjuirtge...llong as it is named by the local Menang people is place of the long neck turtle and Tiger Snakes apparently although we did not see any today This freshwater lake is an excellent location for bird watching with more than 100 different species having been spotted in the area including wading birds such as the Australian white ibis, yellow-billed spoonbill and the white-faced heron, Blue-billed and musk ducks, black swans, hoary-headed grebes, Australian pelicans and Eurasian coots which can regularly be seen on the lake’s surface, while spotless crakes, masked lapwings, dusky moorhens, purple swamp hens and buff-banded rails can be found in the grasses There is a 2.9km family friendly walking trail that surrounds the lake on flat, well established paths and boardwalks. Lookouts, a bird hide, interpretive signage and rest stops can also be found along the route and what makes this trail even better is that it has wheelchair access with assistance from the car park to some lookouts. A real gem of a trail that I often enjoy as it is only 10 minutes from Albany heading towards Emu Point Add it to your list and thank me later Trails WA The City of Albany The Amazing South Coast Australia's South West Eat Play and Stay Albany WesternHikeWest

13.01.2022 MAXTON BROTHERS REMEMBERED In the midst of World War II, Albany local Murray Maxton would have never expected to bump into his brother Eric Maxton in a cafe in ...the middle of London. The pair celebrated their reunion and ended up being the only two Australian brothers to fly in combat together during WWII. Eric’s eldest son, David Maxton told the Weekender the brothers were never far apart physically and spiritually. 05.01.2022 Coming close to Christmas!!

05.01.2022 I am still fairly new to The Amazing South Coast but in the 2 years I have been here this is the first time I have seen rocks on Outer Brambles Beach Storms ha...ve been washing away tonnes of sand by the looks of it. I wonder if Point Possession will ever become an island again Have you visited lately. The beach is a beachcombers & photographers delight, even in overcast conditions, with Blue Bottles, Purple Snails, Coral Sponge, Cuttlefish and rocks obviously This family & dog friendly location can be explored via the Point Possession Heritage Trail, a 5km loop that provides spectacular views of the Albany Port, King George Sound and Vancouver Peninsula. The walk takes you along the cliffs above Whalers Cove and on to the beaches of Vancouver Peninsula, providing plenty of opportunity to explore Some Orchids out in flowers too which was a lovely find I call it the perfect trifecta, a good balance of bush beach & granite Be sure to add it to your list and thank me later @trailswa @exploreparkswa Great Southern Centre for Outdoor Recreation Excellence Western Australia Great Southern Treasures Visit Albany @hikewestau
