22.01.2022 Each of these came up as I researched my book. Each of these plays a holistic role in our wellness. There are many things we cannot control. The truth is we are... not on even playing fields access matters. Limitations exist. AND, we human beings are incredibly resilient. Our genes are not fixed, theyre impacted by everything around us. Our body is always seeking to heal. Our brain adapts + changes through life able to create new neural pathways if we commit to practice. We have been conditioned in medical systems that tell us we cannot heal ourselves. Yet, we can make choices. A series of small choices that with time become transformation. This is how we create our future selves. We are not destined to faulty genes. We are not destined to a life of patterns of re-living trauma. A decade ago, I sat in my New York City apartment calling 911 in the midst of a panic attack. I spent the next several years on several medications diagnosed with OCD, panic disorder + generalized anxiety. Trained in the standard medical model, as a clinical psychologist, I only knew management of symptoms. Until I began my own healing journey. Until I began to take responsibility for my choices. Until I began working through everything I spent a lifetime distracting myself from. Im still healing still growing. Still learning how to take care of myself. Still learning how to own myself how to return to who I truly am underneath trauma + conditioning. Still forgiving myself. Still learning (through conscious awareness) what brings me into safety + wellness, + what takes me father from it. Whats the ONE thing you feel impacts your mental wellness most? #selfhealers

17.01.2022 THE SPIRAL OF GRIEF Grief is not something we get over by following pre-prescribed stages, but a partner that we dance, play, honor, argue, and weep with as ...the cycles unfold. Its appearance and the ways it longs to be tended are unique for each person. The timeline for this voyage is not knowable by the psychiatric community, nor by insurance panels or teachers of spirituality, but is birthed and unfolds within the open pathways of the holy human nervous system. To rush, force, or pathologize the experience of grief is to work against nature. The grieving process may not have an endpoint or state of completion in which we come to some final resolution, where we finish and land in some untouchable place, free from our embodied vulnerability, somatic aliveness, and from falling apart and breaking open yet again. For it is this alchemical rotation of vast cycles of rupture and repair that touch and open the human soul. While it may be tempting to hold some fantasied end state as a goal which we reach as we master life or learn endless new metaphysical theories, the heart is not interested in mastery. But in entering, playing, and unfolding the mystery in more subtle and sensitive ways. The heart itself is endless, and the visitors of grief may companion us in their various forms for a lifetime. They arrive not to harm, but to reveal a portal into wholeness, mercy, and luminosity. Shifting shapes, circulating, and rotating, as they open and close passageways in the landscape of the interior pathways. Grief is not so much a process that we make it through, but a non-linear, purifying midwife and shepherd of the unknown. It moves not by way of straight line, but by that of circle and spiral. 15.01.2022 Shaming ourselves and depending on the approval of others to feel worthy are both forms of self-betrayal. Self-validation a...llows us to understand ourselves better and gain control of our thoughts and emotions more effectively. It also reduces our need for external validation. We may not always get what we need from others, so it is important to internally validate ourselves by becoming consciously aware of our struggles and caring for them with self-compassion and mindfulness. 11.01.2022 Unhealed trauma makes it acutely painful, and therefore difficult, to be present. And presence provides the power to take consistent action on behalf of your mo...st profound vision and values. If you find yourself mired in overwhelm, paralyzed by doubts about your capacity to effect change in these trauma-triggering times -- first, put a stop to the internal war between your desire to act and your desire to be safe. Trauma jangles your neurocircuitry. When your fight-flight-freeze response is activated by the hiss and swirl of events over which you have little or no control, it can feel as though you're swimming as hard as you can against powerfully swift, lethal currents whose only objective is to destroy you. Feelings are heightened, or numbed. All your efforts to move forward are soaked in dread, in the terror of swimming towards death, dismemberment or worse. Take the time to make peace between the you that longs to be on the other side of this river, on the far side of the thing you want to create, or the change you want to bring about; and the you that is terrified of what will happen to you along the way, or when you get there. There is no shortcut to this. Listen patiently, deeply, to every part of yourself. Listen to the you that carries an archeology of trauma whose layers sift back, not just into your own story, but through your ancestral line or through the history of our species. Introduce these frightened inner selves to the you that is adventurous, generative, in love with your soul's vision and propelled to act by the desire to be an agent of wholeness, love, and joyful service. Keep listening and talking with every part of you. Gather all of your inner selves and hold them in conversation with each other, too. Awareness and understanding are the foundations of presence. Do the inner work of dissolving the layers of trauma. Replace the patterns they have etched in your body with ones that your soul holds for your perfect unfolding, at this particular stage of your life. Lay a foundation of strength and presence, on which you can build those structures that will bring your vision to life. Focused, purposeful, effective action emerges naturally from the ground of presence. It's an organic sequence. #Create #Presence #Trauma #ToBeSoul_DoSoul

The most ignorant members of socie...ty call this type of woman damaged. But she is the most powerful type of woman there is. What they forget is that survivors have the most dangerous advantage of all: resilience. This is the woman who will always rise from the dead; Lady Lazarus, after going through hell and back. She was never given love or approval on a silver platter, so in order to survive, she had to love herself in a way others could only dream of. She fought tooth and nail for her own self-acceptance. When someone tells her, You can’t do it, she says, Watch me. All of her life, she was given every evidence of human cruelty and the evil people were capable of. She understood early on that the monsters people dreamed of existed in human skin. She still survives and thrives. The damaged woman is capable of immense manifestation not just in spite of, but because of the traumas she has gone through. O...r maybe youre talking about a different kind of character- the kind that is forged in the fires of hell. The kind Im after is a little different. Its built with kindness, tenderness, compassion, pleasure! Perhaps its time we re-defined our understanding of character. And let go of the idea that suffering is a developmental necessity. It isnt. 07.01.2022 When adults feel scared or overwhelmed theyre often harder on children. When I feel anxious, especially when I feel concerned about my children, I try to reme...mber that: Circumstances do not have to be perfect for me to love and guide. In fact, it is especially when things are challenging that they need love and trustworthy guidance. Feeling seen, heard, understood and cared for is powerful. If thats all I can do for them today, that is enough. When it all feels too much. I seek the compassion and understanding I need by reaching out to trusted friends or giving it to myself. 01.01.2022 Bad habits or self-destructive tendencies are behaviors that are physically, emotionally, or mentally harmful. There is typically a lot of shame surrounding ...these behaviors, and the shame actually can end up driving the behaviors. The purpose of this post is to provide insight into why we may engage in these behaviors. Understanding brings compassion, and compassion is key to healing since we heal through LOVE! Certain unhelpful, bad, or self-destructive behaviors may feel impossible to resist. This is because they are actually serving a purpose. The purpose they serve may be one or all of the functions listed above. Changing these behaviors is usually extremely difficult. Ill talk more about strategies for change in upcoming post.
