06.01.2022 Main Roads has begun mobilising machinery and road building materials to the south of Minilya on North West Coastal Highway (NWCH) to carry out emergency repair...s in the wake of last week’s floods which severely damaged the road. The more severe damage is contained in pockets over a 10 kilometre section of NWCH, about 20 kilometres south of Minilya between Carnarvon and Minilya. Tomorrow, works will begin in to create a temporary traffic lane over this section where there has been full width or half width pavement loss. Once constructed, the single lane will operate during daylight hours only and under traffic control. It is anticipated the section of NWCH between Carnarvon and Minilya will be trafficable by early next week. Emergency repairs will begin shortly after on the 50 lane kilometres of road shoulders and batters on NWCH south of Minilya. The relatively minor repair works on NWCH south of Carnarvon are also progressing. This section of the highway was closed for several days between the Overlander Roadhouse (Shark Bay) and Carnarvon due to floods.
06.01.2022 During tourist season and due to the cooler months we all like to get out and explore a little more, 4x4, camping, exploring and beach trips with endless possibilities in the Pilbara. This means we get a higher volume of bogged call outs. Please be aware when driving around tidal areas that even though it may LOOK hard and there are possibly tracks, this does not mean it is, the area you intend to drive on could have been under water recently and below the crust is mud. ... Please check your insurance policies to see if you are covered for off road as one wrong turn could end in a rather large rescue bill. Always 4x4 safely and if you can, do trips with friends so you have another vehicle there to help or to get you to a reception area to call for help. Enjoy the Pilbara and all it has to offer!
05.01.2022 Were expanding!
