24.01.2022 SCAM ALERT We’re seeing a growing number of people making large payments for fake tax debts. Don’t get caught! These phone calls will tell you that you owe ...money and need to pay it straight away or you’ll be arrested. The scammer will try to keep you on the line until you pay, often by unusual methods such as bitcoin, pre-paid credit cards or gift cards. We’ll never: threaten you with immediate arrest send unsolicited pre-recorded messages to your phone keep you on the line until a payment is made request payment of debts via bitcoin, gift cards or other vouchers. 24.01.2022 Please be careful! Phone calls have been received from people identifying themselves as being from the ATO stating that "your accountant has made an error and you now have a bill that has to be paid today". These scammers have even gone as far as naming the accountant, and the supposed staff member involved in the "error". Do not pay anything until you check all details thoroughly! The ATO will not phone you to demand that a payment be made immediately for any reason.

10.01.2022 SCAM ALERT PLEASE be careful. We have become aware that telephone calls are being made to our clients from callers that pretend to be from the ATO. They have suggested that errors have been made resulting in a Debt being owed to them, which must be paid or they will commence Legal Action! A small payment can be made to avoid this action taking place AND they did offer a number of payment options which included "google pre-paid cards!" They are VERY CONVINCING, even arrang...ing for a telephone call back which is supposedly from the accountants, which they mention by name, however they also stated that the regular staff member, also named, is off work at the moment and so you will be speaking with someone else. (In this case it was TIM!) Tim apologised for the mistake, which he said was as a result of trying to achieve a better result for the client. He suggested that it would be good to "do as they say" and "avoid tarnishing your reputation" by dragging this through the courts. NOTE: They use technology to imitate the telephone number ID that the call is being made from (see below)! A legitimate ATO and KTS phone number showed up as being where the calls had originated from! DO NOT ARRANGE ANY PAYMENTS until you check with us personally! Also, please dont hesitate to check out the ATO Scam Alerts on their website as these are updated regularly. https://www.ato.gov.au//On/Identity-security/Scam-alerts/

10.01.2022 If you have any inactive low-balance superannuation account, with an account balance less than $200, or if youre 65 years old or older, your superannuation fund may close your account and send it to the ATO. Check your details so that this money is paid back in to your own personal bank account.

08.01.2022 Its a busy time for scammers as we get closer to tax time. Stay scam savvy and follow our tips. Tip 1 Know the status of your tax and super affairs! It may s...ound simple, but youre less likely to fall victim to a scam if youre aware of any refunds, debts and lodgments due. Chat with your tax agent or log into our online services to check your details. Tip 2 Stay safe online by logging into our online services through our website or ATO app never via links in emails. For added security, update your myGov sign-in option so you receive SMS codes. Tip 3 Help protect your family and friends, especially older relatives! Warn them about tax scams and tactics so they dont get tricked into paying money or sharing their personal info. See more tips at www.ato.gov.au/General/Online-services/Online-security
