Ignore Max barking in the background at passers by and children wanting to ask questions mid test video! Thank u to my videoers it’s a hard job I know! I’d much rather be in front of the camera!!!

17.01.2022 Our Equiband Systems from Equicore Concepts LLC have arrived! www.rehorse.com.au Developed by Dr Narelle Stubbs and Dr Nicole Rombach www.equicoreconcepts.com... The Equiband system is not a training tool or gimmick! The concept of its use for core strengthening and movement retraining in the horse is based on scientifically-researched and validated techniques used in human conditioning and rehabilitation, and on results from peer-reviewed published studies of use of the Equiband system for equine core strengthening and movement retraining. These studies include the use of resistance bands in core muscle activation, along with individually-designed exercise programmes by veterinarians and professional therapists. 12.01.2022 IS PATTING REWARDING TO THE HORSE? We often see riders slapping their horse on the neck enthusiastically at the end of a showjumping round or dressage test. Pat...ting is considered by many to be a way of telling the horse that they have performed well but is this the reward we think it is, or could it cause them discomfort? Horses are extremely sensitive to touch and many riders use different pressures ranging from a light pat to a slap. To find out more about how horses feel about this, a team of equine scientists at Nottingham Trent University set out to investigate the eects of patting and wither scratching horses when ridden or being handled. For the first part of the study, footage of 16 competitors in the dressage Grand Prix at the 2012 London Olympics was analysed to see how and when the riders patted their horses, and how they reacted. Fifteen riders patted their horses, with 12 continuing to do so for over a minute. A signicant percentage of these pats resulted in the horse reacting. Most commonly, the horses accelerated sometimes they changed gait from walk to trot. This could indicate that the horses found the patting unpleasant, or that they took the opportunity to accelerate because the rider dropped the rein contact and/or leant forward. In a second part to the study, a group of ve well-handled riding school ponies and ve relatively un-touched rescue horses were patted or scratched four times, for 30 seconds at a time. The study was lmed and the horses’ behavioural responses were noted. Patting resulted in little behavioural reaction. However, wither scratching seemed to be much more eective as a reward to the horse. Some lowered their heads, moved their upper lips and tried to mutually groom the handler all responses similar to those seen in positive horse-to-horse interaction. The researchers concluded that riders and handlers should be encouraged to scratch rather than pat their horse as a reward. Previous research has shown that scratching the withers consistently lowers the horse's heart rate and can therefore be a useful aid to calm them in anxious situations. Wither scratching may also improve the horse/human relationship as mutual grooming does between horses. 12.01.2022 I saw this on Insta and it gave me a bit of a laugh

11.01.2022 It was because of being sick of paying good money for gear that didn’t last that birthed N’hay Gear. Someone had to do something. Of course prices could never c...ompete with the imports, and while I was at it, I’d use Australian materials. Why not?! I firmly believe you get what you pay for and I had to believe I wasn’t the only one! Fast forward N’hay Gear turns 12 later this year. Starting with the humble bale bag, which has been a huge success - many are still going strong from the early years. The range is far larger these days as the needs of many dictate where I can help. I quickly found that my original love of dressmaking translated to tailoring for equines. Mainly the really big/small/wide/petite ones. But also the horses who’s owners wanted a great fit, personalisation to give them what they thought to be the ultimate rug, and something to last! My policy has remained the same all these years. Top service. Priced for quality. Only quality! Australian made materials where ever possible. Best fit for your horse, whatever that takes. Made to last. Because you need it when you need it and it’s no good if it can’t work long and hard. I’d love if you choose to support me. Thank you to all those out there with some N’hay Gear in their tack room. May the years have been kind to it, and it’s still serving you well.

09.01.2022 Spa day for Pacific View Samira owned by Rose Kliese in prep for Samford Dressage tomorrow

08.01.2022 Thanks to Jennifer Claire Holland for this amazing picture of the Marchesa Roccagiovine riding side saddle down the Descent Of Mombrone at the Italian Cavalry school, Pinerolo 1904. What a brave lady!

07.01.2022 Not the best results from Samford dressage but such is the life of horses and competing. Pacific View Samira (owned by Rose Kliese) put her best hoof forward but was a little bit hot in both her tests. KPH Trojan The Greek felt funky in the warm up and first test but not enough to say he was lame he just felt off, not wanting to go forward or bend to the left. Second test after a very brief warmup he showed up lame and got tragically worse as the day went on. At this stage we r not too concerned as he has a severely low pain threshold so a couple of days rest and bute and fingers crossed he will be ok

06.01.2022 What an amazing opportunity

05.01.2022 This is a great article outlining why you should get a pre-purchase examination but you also need to remember - There is no such thing as a perfect horse; all horses have some imperfections that will be major or minor in magnitude. In my book The Horses and Pony Buyers Guide I often refer back to vet check as being the last point in the decision making process (available for download - link in comments)... https://horsesandpeople.com.au/pre-purchase-veterinary-exa/

04.01.2022 IMPORTANT INFORMATION WITH THIS HOT WEATHER ABOUT Who is more likely to overheat - you or your horse? It might surprise you to know that your horse gets hotter..., much faster than you and is more susceptible to the negative effects of heat stress. "It only takes 17 minutes of moderate intensity exercise in hot, humid weather to raise a horse's temperature to dangerous levels. That's three to 10 times faster than in humans. Horses feel the heat much worse than we do." And the effects can be serious. If a horse's body temperature shoots up from the normal 37 to 38C to 41C temperatures within working muscles may be as high as 43C, a temperature at which proteins in muscle begin to denature (COOK!). Horses suffering excessive heat stress may experience HYPOTENSION, COLIC AND RENAL FAILURE!! Horses are more susceptible to heat for several reasons. First, they are larger and have a higher percentage of active muscle than people do during exercise. When muscles are being used, they produce a lot of heat. Horses also rely to a significant extent on sweating to cool them off. They can sweat 15 to 20 litres per hour in cool, dry conditions and up to 30 litres per hour in hot, humid conditions, but only 25-30% of the sweat produced is effective in cooling the horse by evaporation. "Because so much more sweat is produced than can be evaporated, the rest just drips off the horse's body," "By comparison, up to 50% of the sweat people produce is evaporated from our bodies during exercise and helps to cool us." The salts in horse sweat are also four times as concentrated as in human sweat. "Those salts have to be replaced," he adds. "Just giving the horse water will not rehydrate a dehydrated horse. When horses drink plain water, it dilutes their body fluids, and their bodies respond by trying to get rid of more water and more electrolytes." Horses also pant to dissipate heat, but this is only effective if the air is at least five degrees cooler than the horse's body temperature. 04.01.2022 Spirit’s Pride is a quiet 16.1hh approx 5 year old thoroughbred gelding that has done basic flatwork and been ridden out on the roads. He is good with traffic and dogs & has an amazingly sweet unflappable temperament that makes him a pleasure to have around. He is easy to handle both on and off the ground has a snaffle mouth & has no behavioural issues or vices. He is good to catch, shoe, worm, float, clip etc. He is microchipped & up to date with dental. He is just coming b...ack into work after a spell due to the owners’ lack of time to ride him and is ready to go on with. He is a quick learner and has a really laid-back amenable temperament. With his easy-going trainable temperament he could suit any discipline. He is eligible for newcomers and is pretty enough for the show-ring or with his ground covering paces he would easily step out in the dressage arena. Located Karalee, Ipswich, Qld Video on the flat - https://youtu.be/iWm3qsmpSfo Video on the road - https://youtu.be/7yS4AGxlMrw (FYI those are our dogs) Vet Check Welcome Price: $3900 For more information please contact Jenny Kunde on 0410 344 081 or email [email protected]

04.01.2022 Another great day out competing at LEGs dressage on the weekend with Alanddi Just For Fun owned by @linda hauser and Pacific View Samira owned by Rose Kliese. Sammi was not on her A game and it’s only Alfie’s second comp under saddle so I’m pretty happy with both horses results
