25.01.2022 Breakfalls are important not only for self-defence but for general accidents too! Learning to fall properly helps avoid serious injuries that could occur and helps kids gain confidence in themselves too www.krmas.com.au #kumiairyunewcastle #krmas #krlittleninjas

24.01.2022 Congratulations to all our Karate and Muay Thai students who graded last Friday/Saturday! You all put in 110% and it was so amazing to see everyone achieve their next step in their Martial Arts journey. Everyone showed great courage, and the aircon got a good workout too! ... Now onto the next goal! OSU!

20.01.2022 It was a great honour for the Kumiai Ryu Newcastle Dojo to host a 3.5 hour higher grade training session and workshop on Saturday afternoon. This was the first get together of KRMAS Dojo Licence holders and their Instructor teams from across NSW and the ACT this year and it was fantastic to catch up with everyone! Sessions took skills and techniques from across all KRMAS syllabuses with some fun techniques thrown in on a very hot and sweaty afternoon of 43 degrees Celsius (...the air conditioner certainly earned its keep!) Thank you to all who participated! OSU! www.krmas.com.au #kumiairyu #krmas #krkarate #krmuaythai #krmmasanda #krlittleninjas

20.01.2022 There is so many great resources out there (YouTube, apps, courses etc.) that can help guide you on your meditation journey. Give it a go for just 5-10 minutes a day for the next week and see how you feel! Even take a moment now to stop, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths in and out to ground yourself so you can be better focused for the rest of the day. ... Martial arts also has elements of meditation. You’re always connecting your mind to your body to your spirit and focusing just on the task at hand, not what was happening before you stepped into the Dojo. www.krmas.com.au #meditation #kumiairyunewcastle #relax

19.01.2022 Newcastle Tai Kai & Senior Grading Day 21.03.2021 -- Thank you to everyone that was able to make it to the Tai Kai yesterday! Unfortunately the KRMAS Port Macquarie and KRMAS Taree Dojo members weren't able to make it due to the highway being closed... ... However, we all had a wonderful day filled with learning. Shihan Geoff went through some relevant, simple stick and knife drills and Sensei Gus took us through some handy grappling techniques & skills! The afternoon had all attending working hard and sweating through the 2.5 hour Grading where everyone who challenged for their next Belt in KR Karate or Badge in KR Muay Thai were successful! Again, thank you to all involved with making Newcastle Dojo's first Tai Kai special and our hearts go out to all those that have been affected in any way by the recent floods. OSU!

18.01.2022 MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR Sensei Gus Cheney Sensei Gus began his Martial Arts Journey with Kumiai Ryu when he was 12 years old in 2004, training in first Karate then shortly after starting his Muay Thai training. He received his KRMAS 1st Degree Black Belt in 2014 and is currently Blue Level 2 in KR Muay Thai. ... In his teenage years, Sensei competed many times in the KRMAS Annual National Championships. He also competed on the World Association Martial Artist (WAMA) Full Contact circuit, unfortunately in one of his major bouts he broke his thumb and was unable to attempt his Black Belt grading which was on only a few short weeks after this event. However, where others would've given up, Sensei Gus showed true Kumiai Ryu spirit and determination, made a full recovery, trained extra hard and passed with flying colours the following year. Sensei Gus also travelled to Thailand in 2013 to help with his KR Black Belt training for the following year, also receiving his Sityodtong badge for completing a two-week intensive Muay Thai training course. He has been assisting in classes since 2008 and started teaching in 2012, currently teaching the Karate and Kata classes at the Newcastle Dojo. Sensei Gus likes teaching as he enjoys helping others with their fitness goals and it's great fun seeing everyone progress. He has also been training in BJJ for over a year now and holds a Three Stripe White Belt. Sensei Gus brings these skills and knowledge he's learnt to help his Karate students be more well rounded. We asked Sensei Gus what his favourite thing about being a part of Kumiai Ryu is: "Making lifelong friends from all across Australia, learning self defence and gaining fitness." www.krmas.com.au #kumiairyunewcastle #krmas
