20.01.2022 This past Sunday, 9 February 2020, during a break from caretaking and after additional rain, I took the opportunity to check out some of the locals waterholes o...ff the Gibb River Road again; namely Galvans Gorge and Adcock Gorge. After having been disappointed a month earlier, when both Gorges were sadly dry other than stagnant waterholes below their waterfalls, it was so great to hear flowing water as I was walking in and then to see water flowing over the falls, even better The Kimberley is very much alive and well people! 14.01.2022 REOPENING FOR THE SEASON We're pleased to announce that the Argyle Homestead Museum will be open for the season from tomorrow! If you haven't already been to t...he Argyle Downs Homestead Museum, we'd highly recommend checking it out. Youll get an insight into the lives of the Durack family and other early pioneers, as well as the Aboriginal people who worked alongside these settlers. Last year, an expanded and updated family tree was installed at the museum, as well as a new set of photographs provided by the Durack family. While youre there browse through the great souvenirs on sale, try looking out for Patsy, the resident Bower bird or simply enjoy a few biscuits along with a cup of tea or coffee on the grounds with a gold coin donation. Please note: we've implemented a COVIDsafe plan in accordance with the federal and state guidelines, including staff training, social distancing measures and safe hygiene practices. We request your cooperation in conforming with these measures.

14.01.2022 It's all about the skies this time of year! Might be the last supply run for a while if this is any indication of what's on the way #bringonthewetseason #stationlife #thisisthekimberley #australiasnorthwest #theeastkimberley

14.01.2022 Rochester is a small country town in Victoria approximately 180 km north of Melbourne. The Campaspe River runs right through the town which forms part of the Mu...rray-Darling basin. It rises in the wooded hilly terrain of the Great Dividing Range and then descends through undulating foothills, emerging onto the wide, flat riverine plains of northern Victoria. The waters of the Campaspe River have been disrupted. Environmental flows are important to maintain threatened vegetation communities, aquatic life and habitat for many terrestrial species, such as the threatened swift parrot and squirrel gilder. The ongoing effect of declining river flows causes loss of habitat for many species of flora and fauna resulting in a decline of population for many forms of wildlife. Jimmy D'Vate, one of Australia's most well known mural artists was chosen to paint the GrainCorp Silos at Rochester. When ever Jimmy takes on a commission, where possible he always tries to feature local endemically threatened species and in this case he chose the Azure King Fisher and the Squirrel Glider. On the tall silo is a wrist-winged Squirrel Glider. He has a home range extending from Bordertown near the South Australian/Victorian border through south eastern Australia to northern Queensland. This species was once thought to be extinct in South Australia since 1939 until a genetic test confirmed their continued inhabitance in the area. On the shorter silo is the Azure Kingfisher with its combination of royal blue plumage on its upperparts contrasting with its orange underparts, makes it one of the smallest and most dazzling kingfishers in Australia. It inhabits the vegetation beside waterways and other wetlands. It is pictured perched on a branch alongside the Campaspe River. The GrainCorp Silos at Rochester were painted in July 2018 and were the 22nd silos to be included in the Australian Silo Art Trail. #australiansiloarttrail #graincorpsilosatrochester #jimmydvate #Jimmy_dvate Rochester Silo

12.01.2022 Earlier, I posted up about a great new camp on the river. Well, I actually spilt the beens back in May on this page. Violet Valley (Baul-wah) will be open next... year "officially" to the travelling public. Check out the vid for some info & check on Wikicamps for further info. Its prime position as alternative accommodation & will retain a very friendly & relaxed atmosphere. This camping with custodians site sits on Gija country & there are a number of experiences planned in the local area, with direct access to custodians managing the place. As a tour operator here in the Kimberley, its great to see these Indigenous tourism ventures come about for the travelling public & operators like us. Bruce & the family are lovely so make sure you stop in to say hello. See more: #explorewa4wd Explore WA 4WD Adventures

11.01.2022 An English garden in the middle of the outback: why not? But the owners of Ellenbrae werent satisfied that theyd done enough to create an outstanding Kimberle...y experience with their verdant oasis: their locally-famous scones, served with jam and cream on the homesteads balcony, have made this a required pit stop along The Gibb River Road... Resistance is useless.

11.01.2022 Most that have been to the East Kimberley know this rock formation over the town of Kununurra, If you are into seeing the Milkyway in UHD 4K Timelapse see this link https://tiny.ie/LJCgs29 I hope you enjoy cheers from Nth Australia.

06.01.2022 *LAKE ARGYLE RESORT AND CARAVAN PARK* Lake Argyle is right on the border of Western Australia and the Northern Territory. If youre travelling from Da...rwin to Western Australia this gem of a place is one of the first attractions you will have the opportunity to enjoy and you dont need a 4WD to get there. The road is sealed all the way, although a little narrow in places and some of the shoulder sections need to be avoided. So be aware if you are towing a caravan. If youre going the other way from WA into the NT, like we are at present, it is the last attraction of WA before you hit the border into the NT. We have had an amazing time staying at Lake Argyle Resort and Caravan Park. The park is full of grassed and shady sites and will suit everyone from camper trailers to larger mobile homes and everything in between. You can choose from powered or unpowered sites. Its also great the way you are escorted to your site by a staff member. Being a large park this personal service is very helpful especially after a day on the road. Although there is a restricted opportunity to pre-book a site and the Resort generally operates on a first in best-dressed basis it is extremely uncommon for anyone to be told sorry fully booked. In peak season it is common for the arrival queue to be 10 rigs or more deep waiting to be allocated a suitable site. The caravan park is renowned for the Infinity pool which has a spectacular view over Lake Argyle. Its a popular pool, even though the water is a little chilly because of the continuous flow of water. There are many quiet grassed areas where you can sit and enjoy the views over parts of the lake and across towards the immense rock faces of Banangum and Gundarim Ridges and these special relaxation areas become very popular at sunset when folks gather around to enjoy the changing colours. Some nights the sky fills with many stars and you can be forgiven for thinking if anything else can fit into it. Awesome!!! Powered and unpowered sites Excellent Telstra and TV reception Camp Kitchen BBQ areas Unisex ensuite amenity blocks Dump point Luxury Villas and cabins Pet friendly Also available: Restaurant and bar Tourist shop with a few grocery items available Beer garden with live free music most afternoons Easy to do walks which give some of the most amazing views across parts of the lake and the Ord River Tours operate year-round at Lake Argyle, ranging from helicopter rides , scenic flights , adventure tours and their famous lake cruises . The sunset cruise is an amazing way to explore the lake and learn about the area and enjoy a swim with 30,000 resident freshwater crocs . It's ok they are probably more scared of you Check out our previous posts on the great walks around the area. Also Lake Argyle Tours & Cruises - "Kimberley Durack" when we took a lunch-time cruise. For something a little different why not take a tour with Kiwi Josh from Lake Argyle Adventures for a unique camp oven dinner and more. Thanks Lake Argyle Resort and Caravan Park we have absolutely loved our stay. Who knows we may even be back again one day (soon). 05.01.2022 When on our Mitchell Falls Discoverer day tour, there are so many different highlights - it's hard to pick a favourite! One part of the tour we often receive g...reat feedback on is the guided hike. Walking through the landscape of the Mitchell River National Park, learning about flora and fauna and hearing stories of the area, viewing ancient rock art, experiencing the smells and sounds, seeing wildlife, crossing peaceful freshwater creeks, as well as seeing Little Mertens and Big Mertens Falls along the way. The hike to get to the top of the falls is a highlight in itself! We can't wait for this tour to kick off again in May, full details here: https://www.aviair.com.au/scenic/mitchell-falls-discoverer/
