05.01.2022 *** NAIDOC Week *** Kuraby State School is acknowledging NAIDOC Week from the 8-15th November. The theme is Always Was, Always Will Be. NAIDOC Week celebrations are usually held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities ...and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’. This committee was once responsible for organising national activities during NAIDOC Week and its acronym has since become the name of the week itself. The theme for this year - Always Was, Always Will Be, recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent (Australia) for over 65,000 years. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the ancient history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. As well as opportunities to participate in NAIDOC activities in class this week please see below a poster from PCYC Mt Gravatt who are holding a NAIDOC Cultural Expo this Friday for 10-25year olds.
