23.01.2022 Field officers from Wet Tropics Management Authority - Yellow Crazy Ant Eradication Program and Biosecurity Queensland are searching for yellow crazy ants and electric ants this week (10/11/2020 20/11/2020) near known infestations at Green Forest Road, Kuranda. Field officers are using a cat food and jam mix lure for yellow crazy ants and sausage lure for electric ants. A small amount of lure is placed on the ground in a 5m x 5m transect. The lure is left for an hour and checked for invasive ants. No insecticides are being used. For more information, contact Ciara at [email protected].

23.01.2022 Collaboration with Traditional Owners is vital to ensure the eradication of yellow crazy ants in the Wet Tropics. The Authority has been working closely with G...imuy Walubara Yidinji Traditional Owners through its association with Abriculture. This week the Traditional Owners went with the Authority’s monitoring team on Country and shared learnings with each other. Traditional knowledge was conveyed to Authority staff and the Authority demonstrated some of the activities being carried out in the process of eradicating yellow crazy ants.

18.01.2022 Interesting yellow crazy ant facts!! Did you know that yellow crazy ants farm other insects? Yellow crazy ants farm sap-sucking insects such as whitefly, scal...e insects, mealybugs and aphids. Yellow crazy ants harvest the honeydew (a sugary liquid) these insects secrete - in return, the ants provide them with protection from predators. The video show images of yellow crazy ants harvesting and tending to these sap-sucking insects.

17.01.2022 A total of 140 sticky ant traps were set at the Russett Park site near #Kuranda last weekend and we are looking for more volunteers to hunt for yellow crazy ants this coming Saturday. A community taskforce of fourteen volunteers led by Jeff from the Wet Tropics Management Authority came together and baited the sticky ant traps at Kuranda EnviroCare nursery and set them inside the Russett Park infestation boundary next to the Barron river accessed from Oak Forest Road. It was ...a great day and a good turnout of volunteers and weather. Volunteers went off the beaten path where there were no tracks. The #rainforest scenery was spectacular with mature fig trees and a diversity of vegetation types. Volunteers will return to the survey site this Saturday 26 September to pick up the traps. Comment below if you would like to join us. #wettropics #yellowcrazyants #volunteer #citizenscience #rainforest

17.01.2022 The search for electric ants is on.. book a free backyard check if you haven’t already. These little buggers love to get around in potted plants

13.01.2022 A good news story for #NationalFrogWeek . The Kuranda treefrog (Litoria myola), a Wet Tropics endemic, is critically endangered and was once directly threatened by yellow crazy ants at Russett Park, Kuranda. Yellow crazy ants invaded the frog’s habitat as early as 2013, when the ants were reported by a local resident. The Wet Tropics Management Authority’s Yellow Crazy Ant Eradication Program along with the support of the Kuranda community, has successfully reduced yellow... crazy ants at Russett Park to undetectable levels. Further surveys at Russett Park must continue to demonstrate the area is free of yellow crazy ants. Had the yellow crazy ants remained, the Kuranda treefrog's protect of survival would have been grim. http:www.frogid.net.au/ #frogID #wettropics #frogs #yellowcrazyants #frogIDweek #biodiversity
