19.01.2022 What is your favourite Derby/Banquet memory? We are all feeling out of sorts without the Derby/ Banquet to welcome Spring and celebrate Father's Day. As West End's favourite day has been going for 12 years, there are many memorable bikes, floats, parades, costumes, performers, races and posters!... Post a picture, the year and the story behind it. Here is a snapshot from 2016 Kurilpa Derby to kick off.

18.01.2022 Derby/ Banquet Update 2020 has been a tough year for many of us, with COVID-19 bringing social isolation, uncertainty and financial difficulty. As restrictions relax, we are looking for opportunities to come together an...d celebrate as a community. BOUNDARY STREET WECA and the Kurilpa Derby organising committee would like to apologise that it is not possible to hold the Kurilpa Derby or Beggars Banquet on Boundary Street this year, due to the stringent COVID-19 event safety requirements. The event can't comply in a street setting, with our limited resources(human, financial and time). We also feel that turning most people away to keep within headcount limits does not sit comfortably with our event ethos, which is to strengthen our community through a free, participatory celebration. DAVIES PARK An alternative event is being explored. We are currently doing the feasibility of holding a community picnic at South's League Club at Davies Park, late October. We should have a decision in the next fortnight. Kurilpa Derby & Beggars Banquet takes pride in being free, non-commercial and 100% volunteer-powered.Despite COVID-19, we want to create opportunities through this alternative event to support our local performers, businesses and individuals.Watch this space for further ways to become involved.

17.01.2022 More wonderful women using skating to change the world.

16.01.2022 Content warning: distressing and language. In light of a rider being hit by a car ,cyclists advocates call for the left turn from Stanley St onto the M1 at Woolloongabba to be closed permanently. The left turn has always been prohibited during the afternoon peak (4-6pm weekdays). The original Woolloongabba Bikeway Plan did have agreement for this closure from TMR and Brisbane City Council.... It has been confirmed that the rider in this video was not significantly injured, and the driver pulled over and came back to check and exchange details.

16.01.2022 Congratulations to local artists Maeve Lejeune for completing the stairs at Bunyapa Park. You would recognise her work from the Kurilpa Derby 2019 poster. Pictures from Houses of West End.
