25.01.2022 This Saturday, former politician turned history writer, Andrew Tink, returns to talk about his sweeping narrative history of Australia in the 20th century. 2pm, Meeting Room 1, Old Gordon School. Visitors welcome.



24.01.2022 On Thursday 20 Apr 6.30-730 in Gordon library there will be a launch of an exhibition about the life and work of Charles Bean. He is well known as a WWI correspondent and historian and was instrumental in setting up the Australian War Memorial. 24.01.2022 This Saturday at 2pm Doug Edwards will be talking about Life in Submarines. Doug served in the 1960s and 70s in Oberon class submarines. This is not a technical talk, but a talk about what life in the submarines was like. This free talk will take place at the Old Gordon School, 799 Pacific Highway, Gordon. Visitors are welcome.

23.01.2022 A great review of the first volume of Ku-ring-gai Historical Societys First World War Book, Rallying the Troops. It not only has details on Ku-ring-gai people who served, but also other chapters on recruiting, enlistment & the battles in which they fought.



23.01.2022 One of our Vice Presidents, Jo Harris, was a well-deserved recipient of an OAM in this years Queens Birthday Honours List. Jo has been a member of Ku-ring-gai Historical Society since 1999 and a Vice President of the Society since 2001. For 15 years she was Leader of the Family History Group, and has run many successful tours. She has also been a founder of the Turramurra Stamp Club, the Ku-ring-gai Arts and Crafts Group, and a local spinning group. She was also a Akela for the Killara cubs. Congratulations Jo.

20.01.2022 This Saturday (20 May) at 2pm distinguished historian John Ramsland will talk about Paul Brickhill, the former fighter pilot, POW, North Sydney Boys High School old boy and author of the post-war bestsellers The Dam Busters, Reach for the Sky and The Great Escape, all of which were adapted into highly successful films. The meeting will be in Meeting Room 1, Old Gordon School, 799 Pacific Highway, Gordon. Free. Visitors welcome

20.01.2022 CHANGE OF SPEAKER FOR THIS SATURDAY!!! Unfortunately Carol Baxter will not be able to speak to us, but instead we will have a talk by Patrick Dodd: THE GOVERNORS TRAVELS: TOURING THE COLONY WITH LACHLAN AND ELIZABETH MACQUARIE... Patrick DODD has followed Macquaries extensive, and exhausting, travels around the colony: from the Illawarra to Lake George, Bathurst to Port Macquarie as well as to Van Diemans Land, often accompanied by his wife. His governorship was crucial in opening up the hinterland to new settlements and increasing the prosperity of the struggling settlement. The talk will be at 2pm on Saturday 17th Feb 2018 in Meeting Room 1, Old Gordon Public School, 799 Pacific Highway, Gordon. It is free and afternoon tea will be provided. VISITORS ALWAYS WELCOME

18.01.2022 Tommorrow (Saturday) at 2pm in Meeting Room 1, old Gordon Public School, Julian Leatherdale, author of "Palace of Tears" will be our guest speaker. Extensive historical research informs the background to his novel set in the Hydro Majestic at Medlow Bath. Julian will share just some of the surprising stories he uncovered about this well-known hotel that was opened as a hydropathic sanitorium in 1904 by the wealthy retailer, Mark Foy. Visitors welcome. No charge.

13.01.2022 This Saturday (15 March) at 2pm in Meeting Room 1, Old Gordon School, Historian and U3A presenter John Malmbergs will talk on Australias greatest military leader, civil engineer Sir John Monash (1865-1931). The talk will range from his early life as the academically gifted son of Jewish-Prussian immigrants, to his strategic contribution to final victory in World War I, and his post-war years as a successful public administrator. Free. All Welcome.



12.01.2022 SYDNEY CEMETERY ADVENTURES Cemeteries, and the way they are planned and designed, tell us much about attitudes to death and dying. Within 30 years the first burial ground (where the Town Hall now stands) was full and there followed a history of tussles between Church and State as well as inter-denominational squabbling over how to deal with the dead.
