24.01.2022 An audience of more than 350 people came to Hornsby RSL for the Ku-ring-gai Male Choir's annual winter concert on Sunday 20th August. The first bracket was a trio of Australian songs: "Waltzing Matilda", "My Country", and "Shelter". The Choir is very fortunate to have the services of two talented soprano soloists, Anita Kyle and Naomi Giselle. For Naomi's first bracket she sang "Come To The Fair", "Some Day My Heart Will Awake", and the amusing "The Physician" by Cole Porte...r. Anita again demonstrated her amazing control in "Sei Nicht Boes'" from Der Obersteiger by Carl Zeller, and "Una Voce Poco Fa" from Il Barbiere Di Siviglia. One of the highlights of the concert were the duets by Naomi and Anita, including "I Would That My Love" and "Evening Prayer" from Hansel and Gretel. The two sopranos finished with "Duet for Two Cats" which is always popular with our audiences, as it depicts an argument between the two over a bouquet of flowers! For the final bracket the Choir concentrated on well-known male choir pieces such as "Deus Salutis" and "Finlandia", which we all enjoy singing, and finally "Brothers Sing On", a piece that is new to us this year. It will be part of the repertoire for the Male Choir's Association Concert in Wollongong on Sunday 15th October, where over 400 men will come together to perform at the Wollongong Sports and Entertainment Centre.

20.01.2022 Lucinda and Melody Beck, who performed with the Choir at Hornsby RSL, are performing in "SinSational Rita & Mae" as part of Sydney Fringe 2019, at the Archie Rose Cabaret Club, City Tattersals, 13, 14 & 15 Sept. Highly recommended! https://www.facebook.com/events/407377633469926/

19.01.2022 We were very happy to be able to sing at Huon Park Village on Tuesday 29 May. One of our choir members is a resident there and we always like to be able to perform for a home crowd! Our Musical Director, Dr. Paul Whiting, always programmes a rich musical repertoire for us to perform, and for this concert we covered the world, with famous Welsh male choir songs such as Rachie and Well Keep a Welcome through to Finlandia and via the French Revolution with a bracket of ...songs from Les Misérables. Our guest artist for this concert was Anita Kyle who performed Habanera (from Carmen) by Georges Bizet, followed by O Mio Babbino Caro (from Gianni Schicchi) by Giacomo Puccini as well as Al Amor and Del cabello mas sutil (from the song cycle Canciones Clasicas Espanolas) by Fernando Obradors, and the famous The Sound of Music by Richard Rodgers. We also had a guest appearance from two policemen to perform The Gendarmes Duet, followed by a quick change into a removal gang for Right Said Fred. We were very grateful to enjoy the wonderful Huon Park hospitality where they had provided a sumptuous supper for us after our evenings work!

19.01.2022 There is a special one off screening of "The Song Keepers" followed by a live performance of the Central Australian Aboriginal Women's Choir. For further information and tickets please see below. https://www.facebook.com/events/1270882706386573/

14.01.2022 Our recent concert at Hornsby RSL Club was once again a resounding success, with over 300 people filling the wonderful auditorium. The choir performed a wide range of music, ranging from a Maori poi song - Waiata Poi - to the Battle Hymn of the Republic, taking in opera and operetta along the way. One of our soprano soloists for the concert, Anita Kyle, was taken ill shortly before the concert and unable to perform. Thankfully we were able to call on Melody Beck, the sister... of our other soloist Lucinda, and she ably stepped in, performing a duet with Lucinda as well as a solo bracket of musical pieces. Lucinda and Melody are performing in the show The Sin-Sational Rita and Mae, at the City Tattersalls Club as part of the Sydney Fringe Festival in September. We will be posting photos from the concert shortly. The choir would like to thank Hornsby RSL club for their ongoing support, including the fantastic riser and audio arrangements, as well as Sherna Kotwal, who donated the major lucky door prize. Sherna is an award-winning artist and Fellow of the Royal Art Society of NSW.

13.01.2022 ANOTHER FINE CONCERT IN OUR 70TH YEAR Ku-ring-gai Male Choirs recent concert at Aminya retirement village in the northern Sydney suburb of Baulkham Hills was an enjoyable return to this attractive and appreciative venue. All our concerts in 2016 have been well attended and successful, in keeping with the auspicious nature of this year, which marks the 70th anniversary of the Choirs founding by servicemen returning from World War II in 1946. We greatly value our service heri...tage and led the hymns at an Anzac service at St Stephens Church, Willoughby on April 24. The congregation responded enthusiastically and it was a moving occasion for all concerned, including the choir. Our main soloist at Aminya was Anita Kyle, a talented soprano who lights up every concert at which she sings. Her program included a beautiful rendition of Softly Awakes My Heart from the opera Samson & Delilah. Anita also sang the tempestuous Habanera from Carmen. As usual, one of the choir members sang a solo. This time it was tenor, Tony Biviano, with an accompaniment on the flute from Chris Moore. Also, Richard Deane-Butcher contributed a trumpet obligato to the Choirs stirring rendition of the great Welsh hymn, Deus Salutis. As is destined to be a feature of our concerts in 2016, we sang the Flanders & Swann comedy classic, The Hippotamus Song. When our conductor Dr. Paul Whiting gave the signal, the audience at Aminya joined in for a rollicking version of Mud, mud, glorious mud! The Choirs program at Aminya started and finished with high tempo songs, beginning with Rhythm of life from the Broadway hit, Sweet Charity which has been in our repertoire for years, but remains fresh and exciting. The evening ended with the classic American spiritual, Every Time I Feel the Spirit. Audiences love the infectious rhythms and a few choir members could also be seen tapping their feet! See more

12.01.2022 Here's a few pics of one of our recent rehearsals, with our Musical Director, Dr. Paul Whiting, in full flight.

10.01.2022 We're back! The choir has started again for 2017; we're looking forward to another good year of music. In October we'll also be in Wollongong for the MCAA's Festival of Song along with many other choirs from across Australia & NZ.

09.01.2022 Welcome back - the Choir has started its 2019 season! It's always great to see our friends again after our Christmas break. Our first concert this year is just 5 weeks away, so we'll be working hard to sharpen up our performance. We're also pleased to welcome our new accompanist, Louise Scott, who is a highly accomplished performer. We are very grateful to have her expertise.

08.01.2022 The books have arrived! We have been eagerly awaiting our music for this year's Male Choirs' Association massed choir concert, to be held in Wollongong on 13-15 October. Our very distinguished guest conductor this year is Richard Gill, and there's plenty of work to do to ensure we're on top form! More info here: http://www.malechoirsassociation.org.au/

05.01.2022 We recently held our 70th Anniversary dinner at the excellent North Ryde RSL function centre, The dinner was well attended with current and past choir members, our wonderful accompanist and guest artists and a number of special guests. The evening finished with the choir performing a couple of songs to the delight of everyone.

04.01.2022 Seasons Greetings! After an active concert year, the choir finished on a high note at the Killara Music Club concert. The venue - the wonderful Ravenswood School Auditorium - is an excellent location to bring out the best in choral music. Anita Kyle joined us as our soprano soloist and again demonstrated her superb voice control and range with a number of opera favourites.... It is also with great sadness that we farewell the choir's long-standing accompanist, Grace Edwards-Barnetson, after 16 years. During this time, Grace has accompanied not only the choir during all our rehearsals and performances, but also our soloists, who were very grateful to find such an accomplished musician to accompany them. We wish Grace all the best in her retirement. The choir is taking a break over the Christmas and New Year period, and will return to rehearsals on 29th January 2019. In the meantime take a look at the photos from our recent Hornsby RSL concert, which were taken by Talia Davis (www.taliadavis.com.au/) Wishing you all a safe and merry Christmas and New Year.

02.01.2022 An interesting trip to Hawaii!
