24.01.2022 The 46th Federal Parliament is noticeably more collegiate than the last one. Sure there is the cut-and-thrust in Question Time centred on energy, but the damaging character assassinations have dissipated noticeably for the Government, particularly. It’s early days sure, but the political contest will ramp up in earnest as the parties prosecute and defend their agendas when personality clashes can spill over. Kurrajong predicts a term based on delivering outcomes for the people as the parties up for the next election in a little over 2 years.

20.01.2022 To set the record straight, #FacingNorth, was the name for the inaugural Darwin showcase promoting Federal investment in the North and showcasing the NT. Forum discussions held in September focussed on the economic opportunities including defence, the Darwin Ship Lift, natural gas and Kakadu tourism development. Host in Federal Member for Solomon Luke Gosling AM MP said the NT is crucial for our nation's prosperity and security. ... He praised major business groups and the Northern Territory Government, who will be relied on more and more with the expansion of Northern Australia to capture opportunities and protect vital assets.

20.01.2022 The productivity of small business is lagging according to the Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts the Hon Paul Fletcher. Small businesses that invest in Information Technology are more productive, the Minister said. He cites while small businesses are 98 percent of overall businesses, large businesses are more productive because of their focus on IT. It is an interesting perspective given the focus on welcome tax cuts for small business dominates the deb...ate as the main lever to drive the small busines engine. His comments were delivered at an NBN breakfast in Sydney today with the Australian Chamber of Commerce. The panel raised the need to grow innovation in small business by doing more with less by applying new technology to traditional work practices! www.kurrajongsc.com was hosted by Peter Zangari from Brown & Chase. 15.01.2022 While many Parliamentarians talk about their unique electorates they represent, some physically bring them to the People’s House! For the third year in a row last week, Environment Minister and Member for Farrer Sussan Ley MP hosted the Farrer Food Fair. www.kurrajongsc.com was there. It’s a bipartisan event attracting MPs, Senators and 100s of staffers that has the added benefit of showcasing the Bush seat to those in the Bush Capital. Yours truly won a lucky door prize of ...wines from the region (served in Qantas First Class) presented by the Minister! Attendees were served a range of foods including cooked quail, chicken and turkey, sides of rice or nut-based dishes, dairy, citrus and spreads along with a variety of tapas and condiments. Locally produced wine and beer was also on offer. The drought is biting hard for many in our agriculture sector, and our Farrer Food Fair doubles as an opportunity to show the nation’s decision-makers why ongoing support for the domestic production of food, wine and fibre is absolutely vital. Across the aisle, Member for Solomon (Darwin region) Luke Gosling OAM MP held his electorate showcase in the House earlier this year. He proudly spoke about it in Parliament to encourage decision makers to get some insights into the Top End and attract tourists. There is a real push to show off the place many have Never Never Been To. In terms of scale and political dominance, it is hard to go past the Flavours of Tasmania event in the Great Hall on Tuesday night. While a huge draw card for all Members, Senators and advisers because of the sensational varieties of salmon, chocolates, fudge and a range of alcoholic tipples of wines, gins and beers from the Apple Isle, it does draw on the organisational firepower of two MPs and five Senators from the Liberal Party calling the Apple Isle home. The Prime Minister made a grand entrance with media and it was great having chats with a range of politicians including Graham Perrett MP, Senator Pauline Hanson, Veterans Minister Darren Chester, Angie Bell MP, Fiona Phillips MP and several advisers. Did I mention the salmon? These events are a real credit to the Parliamentarians who go the extra effort to support their constituents and businesses. Great to gain an insight into the electorates of this wonderful and diverse country who want to participate in the democratic instrument that is Parliament House.

14.01.2022 Drought is the biggest social, political and economic challenge facing this country right now. Sure the policy discourse is fraying at the edges, but I think this is due to the enormity of the problem politicians are grappling with on all sides. Going forward, State and Federal policy makers must approach this with solutions for the lives and livelihoods of those in the bush uppermost. Water solutions for the future are needed now for the prosperity of the nation and mental well being of those in rural and remote Australia. As a city dweller, my heart goes out to our farmers doing it extremely tough now. I know for a fact, many politically-connected people in Sydney want our country cousins treated like family for the hard-working and sincere people they are.

12.01.2022 Australian defence manufacturing firms are partnering with the Australian Government to supply excellent equipment to defend the country and save ADF lives. Priority is required to give companies like W&E Platt delivering work-class weapon mounts for ADF infantry mobility vehicles further support to meet deadlines in a timely and efficient manner. New regulations and legislation are being assessed to meet ambitious production targets given the geopolitical situation. The county needs to be ready for anything. *W&E Platt is a Kurrajong client and one of 100s of Australian SMEs supporting the Australian Defence Capability Plan.
