24.01.2022 Photo day is always lots of fun! Thanks to Anthony from MSP photographers for being so fantastic with our students. And thanks to the staff for helping to get the right shot! A few squeaky toys and a bit of ABBA playing helps too! If your child wasnt at school today, there will be another date later this month.
23.01.2022 It is with great sadness to inform our school community that one our much loved Nannas, Carol Maling passed away Tuesday night. Carol always proudly supported her grandchildren, Jordan and Bradley, at our school events over the last 15 years and was renowned for bringing a crowd. Her humour and cheekiness will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with all of Carols family including Kevin, Tracey, George, Bradley, Donna, Yvonne, and Nan Nan.

20.01.2022 Today we celebrated our semester one Recogntion ceremony. We usually have a whole school assembly and a BBQ lunch with our families but due to the current climate we had to do our recognition in isolation with each class. We plan to hand the trophies to students who were absent today on Monday and then post all our photos together. Here is a sneak peek from S3. Our Year 12, School Captain, Jess helped present her peers, Tyrone and Harrison, with the most improved and most consistent award for S3. Excellent work, Harry and Tyrone! #EdWeek20

14.01.2022 New Updated Guidelines and clarifications from the Department of Education fro COVID-19 for STAFF and STUDENTS. Please note the paragraph pertaining to students with disabilities and complex health needs. * During the COVID-19 pandemic, anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, loss of taste, and loss of smell), even mild symptoms, should not be at school. * If, after testing negative, the person has ongoing symptoms which persist bey...ond 10 days, the person (staff or students) should arrange to see their doctor. The medical assessment should consider whether the symptoms are typical for that person (for example seasonal, allergic rhinitis), and provide documentation for the school if this is the case. If there are new symptoms at any time, the person should be tested again. * Isolated incidents of sneezing or coughing may not indicate that a student is suffering from an illness. Staff should talk with students about how they are feeling to determine if a cough/sneeze is an isolated incident or whether the student is unwell. Where a student is unwell arrangements should be made to send them home. * Schools should encourage staff and parents to arrange for the person who is unwell to be tested so they can return to school as soon possibleonce their symptoms have resolved to minimise the absence from school. For people who are unwell with respiratory symptoms, a negative COVID-19 test result must be received and sighted by the school. * COVID-19 testing for students with complex health or disability may be challenging. In these situations, schools are to ask the parent/carer to have their child assessed by their medical practitioner. Where a medical practitioner determines that a COVID-19 test is not indicated, a medical certificate must be provided to the school to confirm that the student does not have symptoms that warrants a COVID-19 test. The certificate must also indicate that the student is able to return to the school environment. * Schools have reported concerns with obtaining COVID test results from some families. In these situations where a parent/carer is unwilling to allow their child to undertake a COVID test or provide the school with a negative COVID-19 test result, the student is to be excluded from school for a 10 day period. Additionally, the student must have been symptom free for at least 3 days before returning to school. See more
13.01.2022 Some of you may be aware of the current Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse , Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability. While the NSW Governments present position is for SSPs to remain as an important educational option for students with disability, the Royal Commission has raised the matter of how childrens needs could be better met by abolishing SSPs. The voice of families, students and staff is a quiet one, compared to the voice of some groups who oppose the... existence of SSPs as an educational option. You may be interested in the petition below. You are under absolutely no obligation to sign, comment or share. However, you are most welcome to contribute to this conversation. Read the comments from parents who choose our settings. These are the voices that are never or rarely heard. This petition aims to assist in: highlighting the complexity of disability education in NSW, and preparing good news stories to shift the narrative. https://www.change.org/p/disability-royal-commission-a-cont

02.01.2022 Dear Parents and Carers, In Australia, each state and territory have their own special schools. Each of these parts of Australia also have their own special education principal association that advocate on your behalf to each state and territory government to ensure our students and schools have the resources they need and appropriate support. The attached national survey is being conducted by the Australian Special Education Principals Association (ASEPA). Why do a survey? O...ver the last few years there has been a push for more inclusive practices in Australian education systems. Some inclusive advocacy groups see special schools in a very negative light. The current Disability Royal Commission is hearing from groups and individuals who wish to see all students within mainstream classrooms. I believe that our students, your child, deserve the highest level of support and that the personalised education that we provide, along with smaller classes directly benefit to meet students with complex need. This survey is designed to have your voice heard, along with parents of students from across Australia who have chosen our specialist schools. The research is approved by the NSW Department of Education Research Committee. The Research is being conducted by Professor Tania Aspland from ACU. Your voice. This survey is the first of its type designed for you, our parents of students in special schools, and will provide valuable evidence to defend and support our work, and to have your voice heard against those who do not understand. Please take the time to do the quick 10 minute survey on the link provided. (A papercopy of extra information about the research is being sent home very shortly) FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS IN SPECIALIST SUPPORT SETTINGS WHO FOLLOW OUR SCHOOL PAGE AND WHO WANT TO HAVE A SAY, FEEL FREE TO CLICK ON THE LINK AND FILL OUT THE SURVEY AS WELL. HAVE YOUR VOICE HEARD! https://acu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0pGAoekNmVR7VB3 See more
