21.01.2022 CAUGHT ON CAMERA, hoons performing burnouts at Cragieburn Anzac park. Disgraceful behaviour, particularly in front of a sacred war memorial as we approach Anzac Day. Hume City Council is investigating stronger local laws and camera surveillance to fine and identify offenders. If you have any info, please contact the Hoon Hotline on 1800 333 000.

21.01.2022 TRANSFORMING drab walls into pieces of Art, beautifying public spaces and reducing graffiti hotspots has been objectives of the successful "Colourful Hume" project I launched two years ago. This is the latest mural which has been placed at the King St shops along Barry Rd. If you know of a wall or space in Hume that could use this treatment, comment below and I will follow it up

20.01.2022 Happy St Patrick's day to everyone celebrating in Hume! Hume has 12,053 people of Irish heritage, making up over 6% of our community. May the luck of the Irish be with you !

19.01.2022 Congratulations to Melbourne’s fittest Great Grandma, Edna Sheppard who recently turned 99 years old ! On Friday I had the chance to join Edna in a fitness class as we celebrated her 99th birthday and recognised her incredible 40 year membership of the Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre. Four years ago, we celebrated her 95th birthday and when I found out she was still a regular attendee of our leisure services, Council organised a special event to celebrate the d...ay. Edna is a fantastic example of the importance lesiure plays in keeping our community fit and healthy. Looking forward to attending her next birthday when she turns 100 ! 18.01.2022 Pleased to report that from today, Hume Libraries will permanently abolish all late fees. 18 months ago, I brought to Council’s attention that global research was emerging that showed that overdue library fines were serving as a disincentive for those from lower socio-economic communities in accessing library services. Sadly many people stop engaging with our library services, when they start receiving fines and can’t afford to repay them. ... After a 12 month trial of the removal of library fines, Hume City Council has seen a: 71% increase in library membership 11% increase in loans and renewals 20% increase in the turnover of items on loan and a return of almost 260 lapsed customers As a result, I successfully led a motion to have overdue fees permanently removed from our library services at last nights meeting. A great result for our community and a strong demonstration of this councils commitment to ensuring our library services remain accessible to all of our residents

16.01.2022 Have a happy, safe and blessed Easter

15.01.2022 Only one thing better than watching the return of local soccer, and that's seeing your local team win in the derby !!! Congratulations to Hume United FC who fought out a hard 3-1 victory against Albion Rovers FC in the Turkish derby. An honour to have the Turkish Consulate General join us along with Football Federation Victoria president Kimon Taliadoros ... Great to have soccer returning after a 12 month hiatus, welcome back to all sports club

14.01.2022 Wishing our community a blessed and joyful month during this first night of Ramadan.

14.01.2022 SHARING FOOD & Iftar with the legendary Australian Ottoman Mehter Band, going strong since 1994. Always enjoy spending special moments like this with the community, after a long interrupted year of social distancing. Thank you for the invite.

14.01.2022 Hume City Council has written to the Prime Minister seeking a meaningful increase to JobSeeker payments. With JobKeeper ending today and the coronavirus supplement ending for JobSeeker payments, many of our residents will once again be plunged back into poverty having to choose between basics such as food and medicine. As I said during the debate, with 3 of the 5 highest suburbs on JobSeeker payments being based in Hume, the $3.57 increase per day is a heartless betrayal for... many of our residents hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. Thank you to my colleague Cr Jarrod Bell - Hume City Council for moving this important motion. You can read more of what I had to say here https://sunburymacedonranges.starweekly.com.au//council-p/

12.01.2022 FOR THOSE who want to aknowledge Anzac Day locally in Hume, these are the services being provided. If you’d like to join with me, I will be joining the community and the 1st Tullapark Scout Hall for the Dawn service at Raleigh St, Westmeadows.

12.01.2022 Another weekend out supporting local football, this time supporting Greenvale United Soccer Club in a hard fought FFA Cup tie against former NSL champions Preston Lions Football Club. Big crowd in, who witnessed Greenvale push the Lions all the way in a 3-1 loss, despite being 4 divisions lower on the football pyramid. Lots of positive signs for the season ahead

10.01.2022 Starting this week, Hume City Council is launching a campaign to stamp out illegal dumping. Residents will start seeing the below messages placed throughout shopping centres, on mobile billboards and across social media calling out rubbish behaviour. With free tip passes, free hard rubbish collection, free recycling (Hume Clean Days) and unlimited e-waste recycling available to all residents, there is no need to illegally dump.... For too long a small minority are choosing to do the wrong thing and to spoil the amenity of our area for everyone. Let’s stamp out this behaviour together via Hume.vic.gov.au/reportanissue

09.01.2022 21st of March marks Harmony Day across Australia Harmony Day celebrates inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians - no matter what your background. Across Australia 49% of Australians were either born overseas or have 1 parent who was born overseas (I have two )... In Hume our residents: Come from over 160 different nations Speak over 140 different languages With the top 5 major ancestry responses being: Australian (20.6%) English (19.3%) Italian (8.5%) Turkish (7.2%) Irish (6.1%) As a councillor I’m very proud to represent such a diverse community and I encourage everyone to acknowledge this diversity today and celebrate a more inclusive Australia for all Victorian Blacksea Turkish Cultural Association, harmony week celebration

08.01.2022 HUME CITY is continuing the fight for the Mickleham Rd Duplication. Council will not support the fast tracking of the Cragieburn West PSP, unless funding is committed for the full duplication of Mickleham Rd. From 2013 to 2019 Mickleham Rd usage has doubled from 15,000 vehicles per day to 29,000 vehicles per day. The Cragieburn West PSP will add a further 8000 dwellings along Mickleham Rd and many tens of thousands of additional vehicle movements. As I said in my speech,... major infrastructure projects are needed to kick start our economy and get people moving. This road duplication would provide many 1000s of new jobs, creating work and solving traffic issues for our community. It beggars belief that this may not be included as part of the PSP. 07.01.2022 Yesterday I joined the Westmeadows Tennis Club to tour the upgraded club rooms provided by Hume City Council, as part of the Willowbrook Masterplan During lockdown, Council diligently progressed these works so that the facilties would be ready by the start of the season (which began last week). Very pleased to hear how appreciative the club is of the works and the benefit it will provide to the club and juniors going forward. ... Special thanks to Aimee for the warm welcome and tour, organised on short notice

07.01.2022 From 1159pm tonight, Victoria will be re-entering lockdown (stage 4 restrictions) until Wednesday 1159pm due to a highly contagious strain of Covid19 which is potentially spreading in our community. There are only 4 reasons to leave your house: Shopping for essentials... Caregiving Essential work, which cannot be conducted from home And exercise for 2 hours per day You must stay within 5km of your home, other than for permitted work Masks be worn everywhere, except at home No visitors or private gatherings Schools will close, but will remain open for vulnerable children or those who cannot work from home This is difficult news to take, but hopefully these short restrictions will help prevent a 3rd wave taking hold in Victoria.

06.01.2022 Today I joined the Assyrian community in Broadmeadows to celebrate Akitu, the Assyrian Babylonian new year In my speech I thanked the community for their warm welcome and wished a happy new year to all Assyrians in Hume and around the world as they celebrate this auspicious occasion

03.01.2022 At Monday’s meeting, Council resolved to not proceed with the charging of interest for outstanding rates for a further three months and to not proceed with debt collection until June 30th. During the election I committed to a rate freeze for all households affected by the Covid pandemic. We are not through the pandemic, and with a significant number of households experiencing financial stress across Hume, it is not appropriate for Council to be punishing households for late... rate repayments. We will continue to review this position every 3 months, and I will continue to argue for measures to support our residents in meeting their living expenses, whilst this pandemic continues. If you need assistance with rates or wish to defer for the most recent quarter because of financial stress please visit this address: https://www.hume.vic.gov.au//COVID-19-financial-hardship-s Special thanks to Cr Carly Moore for moving this amendment.
