20.01.2022 The beautiful Pilbara. Especially the incredible Thalanji Country (we might be biased) is filled with export, jobs, and education. Recently, we told you a bit about all the incredible exports happening around Oslow, but today we thought we would tell you more about the sacred land that is Thalanyji. Thalanyji Country is absolutely huge, covering ... Ashburton River Coastal Plain Tubridji Point Yannarie River Emu Creek South West Pilbara Henry River Cane River In 2008 the determined Thalanyji people worked in unity with anthropologists, Dr. Edward McDonald and lawyer, Mr Ronald Bower to demonstrate the depth and strength of their connection to the Thalanyji country, requesting recognition of a native title. The native title was awarded, capturing over 11,120 sqkm in the West Pilbara on September 18th 2008. The determination and commitment of the Thalanyji people are still celebrated to this day. This occasion means everything o us and to our elders, who at last have the recognition of their ties to their country, to our own generation, who have the tasks of carrying the ongoing role of maintaining our culture and connection with the land, and to our children, who will learn from us the culture and spirituality of our country Shirley Hayes, then Chairperson of Buurabalayji Thalanyji Association We are proud to work in unity with the Thalanyji people. 06.01.2022 You probably don’t think about salt much more beyond its place beside pepper on the dinner table, right? Well, a new project in the Pilbara has been shedding some light on the many uses and values of salt beyond it’s consumption with food! Did you know salt is used to create more than 10,000 different products, many of which we use in our everyday lives, such as glass, aluminium, paper, rubber, textiles, soap and pottery.... Around 4.4million tonnes of salt sits along the coast between Karratha and Onslow, and the region's perfect climate of high temperatures, high wind, low rainfall and low humidity make for excellent production of high purity salt.. With operations expected to start in 2022, BCI Minerals’ Mardie Salt and Potash project is on track to be the world’s third largest solar salt project, boosting our local economy and feeding into growing demand in the nearby Asian market. Over 500 construction jobs and 200 ongoing jobs will be created, as well as indirect jobs and brand new infrastructure, most notably by way of a new tranship port with 2.3km jetty. The project is expected to bring in more than $600 million to the State economy through royalties. There’s also a focus on local engagement and procurement, with Aboriginal and Pilbara businesses to be prioritised. Local Aboriginal communities are set to benefit from native title land access agreements in place worth more than $150 million. Overall, a great project for the region which we are looking forward to seeing progress. https://kuuwa.com.au/
