22.01.2022 Today we participated in the activity How do birds fly? The children loved being able to decorate their own bird, follow step by step instructions and watch their bird fly! What a fun activity! The Science Behind It How Do Birds Fly? Birds use two things to make themselves fly: Lift & Thrust. When air quickly moves across a bird’s wings, it creates a difference in pressure between the top and bottom of the wing, causing the wing (and the bird!) to rise or lift. The second thing that makes birds fly is thrust. In order to get that fast-moving air on the top of their wings, birds flap them. As they push their wings down creating thrust, the air speeds up, and lift takes place

22.01.2022 Today we experimented to see how polar bears stay warm! The children tested how long they could keep their finger submerged in cold water before it got too cold. We followed this by adding a layer of butter around their finger to simulate a layer of fat. Just like the polar bears, the children managed to stay submerged in the cold water for a longer period of time!

19.01.2022 We had the best time at TreeTops today! The children really challenged themselves and some even faced their fear of heights! We are so proud of every single child!

13.01.2022 Emoji Thaumatrope Optical Illusion What is a Thaumatrope? These emoji-tropes are a classic optical illusion toy called thaumatropes. They consist of two pictures... that are rotated quickly. When you spin the straw between your hands, instead of seeing one of the pictures or the other, you see a combined version of the two. This is due to a phenomenon called persistence of vision. The human eye can only see 10 to 12 images per second and the brain can still be processing after the image disappears. If a new image replaces the first image while the brain is still processing, it will interpret the image as a combination of the two. Thaumatropes are considered to be one of of the earliest forms of motion pictures and animation and were very popular in the 19th century. See more

05.01.2022 Today we made our DIY stress balls! We each used the pro social skills of turn taking and patience, and hand eye coordination to carefully try to pour the flour into the balloon. Simply manipulating a stress ball and applying pressure on it with one or two hands while paying attention to their breathing can calm little minds and overexcited little bodies. Stress balls can strengthen children’s grips, help concentration, Therapeutic management for anxiety and improve many motor skills. It was wonderful to see the children involved learners and freely follow and extend their own interests with enthusiasm, curiosity, energy and concentration.

03.01.2022 Some exciting things happening this vacation care
