24.01.2022 Early morning call just after midnight to a report of structure fire in the village just up the road from fire station. Reported by neighbors of smell of smoke and fire alarm. Property was found to be unoccupied and after investigating no fire was found. At the same time while Beaumont crews were heading to station to attend this call a car was found alight on top of Berry Mtn which saw the other two kangaroo valley trucks respond to this new incident to support the Beaumont crew and provide additional water in remote location. Crews finally heading back to bed around 2.30

22.01.2022 One more photo with many of the members that attended the fires wearing the hats given as part of the citation.

20.01.2022 While it has been a quite fire season this year Kangaroo Valley crews still remain busy with training and other calls. We currently have 2 new members working through their Basic Firefighter training One of our newly joined members James Spillar had been away for 5 days assisting with the flood cleanup in Port Macquarie this week as part of a combined Shoalhaven crew

19.01.2022 An After Action Review, following on from a training exercise, conducted by our crew leader candidates and senior deputy captain discussing possible areas where operational efficiency and safety can be improved. This was the first meeting to take place under the newly installed patio roof and chairs and tables. This area will provide an invaluable work area for brigade activities and for future community events. Many thanks to the local residents and business community for their support and local tradies (Preston & Sons, Robb Roofing and Gary Thomas Solutions) that provided the materials free or at cost and labour for free.

18.01.2022 The brigade's BBQ master chefs will be at the XMAS In The Valley event tomorrow afternoon and evening. Come along to support the community and chat with brigade members.

16.01.2022 Assisting a landowner with various tricky pile burns in a deep gully. Two other piles were burned further up the gully. Thanks to the owner for providing a BBQ for attending members which was unfortunately cut short by the request to assist police.

15.01.2022 Two crews from the local brigade and two from Cambewarra addressed a bushfire high up on the Camberwarra Range late yesterday evening. This was in steep country and battling through dense vegetation. The likely cause being a lightning strike. Once again our new Bush Firefighters excelled and displayed skills in advance of their short time in the brigade - a credit to our training team. Many thanks, as always, to Cambewarra brigade for their response.

14.01.2022 Tree down on barrengarry Mt that struck a car luckily missing the driver. Valley crews on scene and have cleared the road along with help from our local policeman Todd

13.01.2022 Valley crews on scene at a small tree down across live powerlines on Nugents Creek road which is blocked to traffic currently

13.01.2022 For your information you may see smoke in the Knights Hill/Budderoo NP direction from tomorrow as per the below. This area is East of Kangaroo Valley and North of Brogers Creek. Forecast winds should blow smoke away from Kangaroo Valley

12.01.2022 Well 12 months on since the Currowan fire hit KV causing so much devastation to property and the environment but is nice to see the bush slowly regenerating but will be years in the process. The community support for those that lost property and also the brigade was very humbling but not unexpected from such a wonderful place. Brigade members fought the fires for over 3 months up and down the coast with trucks out everyday for 8 weeks on this fire and while it was very deflating for members with the losses locally at least everyone was safe. Today is a day to remember and look out for each other. Thanks for your support Our favourite keepsake

12.01.2022 Late yesterday evening, as local crews were completing a controlled hazard reduction in the Upper Kangaroo River area, a call was received to assist ambulance and police at a property in the Barrengarry area to extract an individual that had fallen from rocks. Arduous personnel were requested due to the difficult terrain and two crews were dispatched. As crews arrived on scene, the ambulance team had already stabilised the patient and begun the descent with the brigade only required to clear a short path down the steep slope and assist to bring down medical equipment. Hard work for the ambulance crews and police working in difficult terrain.

11.01.2022 Kangaroo Valley RFS crews attended this incident yesterday with the able assistance of Berry Fire Rescue. Thankfully, no-one was seriously hurt. An air filled hose was implemented by the local brigade as a temporary measure until Fire & Rescue could deploy their booms and pillows to stop further spillage into the waterway. Thanks to Fire & Rescue for doing all the dirty work wading through the oily water and also to Cambewarra brigade for turning out. The tow truck driver deserves a significant mention as the extraction was tricky due to the steep bank, close proximity of the car to the bridge and current wanting to push the car under the bridge. A reminder to call 000 immediately if there is an oil spillage into waterways - details can be found on the NSW EPA website https://www.epa.nsw.gov.au//r/contacts-for-water-pollution

11.01.2022 Busy morning for the brigade with a number of incidents due to the high winds but luckily no fires. First was a callout to a tree over power lines on tourist road. Once origin energy crews isolated the power the tree was chainsawed up and removed On return to station we were informed a large tree had fallen on a house in the village which the brigade removed some fallen branches to make area safe but will need additional resources to remove at later date. At the same time following another local report of a tree over Wattamolla rd another crew was dispatched there to investigate and remove

10.01.2022 KV crews were out yesterday assisting a property owner with a large pile burn to allow them to commence rebuilding after losing their home last year. Video shows some of the planning and work that goes into this exercise to ensure is carried out safely in a challenging situation

04.01.2022 The brigade was called out earlier tonight to a small fire in bushland behind Jenanter Dr caused from an escaped campfire. Luckily this was found and reported by a push bike rider using the trails there. Brigade members walked in with hand tools and blowers to extinguish the smouldering fire. Timely reminder as we move towards summer to ensure all fires are out before you leave

03.01.2022 ITS FINALLY ARRIVED Kangaroo Valley RFB is proud to announce the arrival of its very own PC 4wd crew cab utility This has been purchased 100% with funds donated by the kangaroo valley community and associated businesses following the terrible events of the Currowan fire last year. ...
