23.01.2022 Kwik Tip Bins offers an affordable ($57 a quarter) 240 litre Wheelie Bin GREEN WASTE Recycling service for several towns in the Wellington Shire including Sale, Maffra, Stratford, Rosedale and Heyfield. Green waste recycling is an easy way to dispose of lawn clippings, weeds, prunings and leaves, which is taken to a green waste recycling facility where it is composted and mulched ready for reuse. By recycling your green waste you prevent it going to landfill, which helps reduce greenhouse emissions. Green waste is collected fortnightly on Tuesdays for Sale and Friday for Maffra, Stratford, Rosedale and Heyfield. For more information on our green waste recycling service, contact us on 5144 3900.

20.01.2022 Kwik Tip Bins reception will be closed from 4.30pm Thursday 13 April until Tuesday 18th April. There will be no Kwik Tip Bins collection service on Good Friday. A limited service will be provided on Easter Saturday and Easter Monday. Collections will occur as normal until Saturday 24th December and be closed on Sunday 25th and Monday 26th December. A limited service will be provided on Tuesday 27th December 2016. During the festive season: Kwik Tip Bins office will be closed on Friday 25th December, Monday 28th December and Friday 1 January 2016 . No Collections will occur on these days.... Skip Bins collections will occur on Saturday 27th December with all services returning to normal on Tuesday 29th December. Green Waste collections for Maffra , Rosedale, Heyfield & Stratford (normally collected on Friday) will be collected on Saturday 26th December. 04.01.2022 GIPPSLAND RECYCLING FACILITY WANTS YOU TO TAKE MORE CARE WITH YOUR RECYLCING We just pulled a full sheep skin out of one of the loads that came in. Obvi...ously thats NOT a recyclable product." Bruce Crowe from Tambo Waste at Lucknow says were too good at recycling, and too many random products are ending up at their facility that they have to send to landfill at their own cost. Garden hoses, dead animals, mattresses, bags of mulch, plastic coat hangers, clothes, microwaves, tarps, ropes, tents, scrap steel. The list goes on and on. People think theyre doing the right thing by putting their recycling in a plastic bag in the recycling bin. That plastic bag of recycle actually goes to landfill. The local facility turned a negative into a positive when China stopped taking 24 of our recyclable materials last year, by focussing on new and local markets. Our facility was able to keep operating while Visy shut the doors on everyone 18 months ago. Since then, weve had to search for other markets. Were still struggling to find Gippsland markets, but a new market has opened up for our paper and cardboard which is a local egg carton manufacturer in Melbourne. Managing Director Murray Webb says because their centre is smaller than others, they can ensure a higher quality product which gives them an advantage when looking for new markets. Were doing a few trails on different ways to crush our glass and weve identified a couple of markets locally for roads and bitumen use, so thats a win win. There are only two sorting facilities in Gippsland, with most of our recycling being sent to Melbourne to sort, and around 14% still being sent interstate and overseas. By the way, if youre sceptical of where your recycling ends up, NO Gippsland shire has been directly affected by SKMs decision to stop taking recycling a few weeks ago, which means youre recycling is still being processed. Murray and Bruce want you to keep at it, but take some time to work out what can go in your yellow bin and whether or not its considered a household item. Theres symbols on a lot of the products but its mainly your products that have a 1, 2 or 5 on them.
