22.01.2022 Since the outbreak of #COVID19, there has been a spike in reports of violence against women. Today marks the start of #16Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, an opportunity to make a difference for the better. Over the next 16 days we’ll be sharing information to raise awareness and tips on how to respond to gender-based violence. Every one of us has a role to play. #orangetheworld @unwomen http://unwo.men/SdMB30pTv6e IMAGE DESCRIPTION: in orange tones, from top to bottom the image shows: three women talking on the telephone; three women wearing masks and using a megaphone; four women and a girl with arms around each other in support. 22.01.2022 This week were celebrating Dental Health Week. Wed like to remind people of the FREE dental services that are available for ALL school aged children (up to the end of year 10) in Queensland as well as younger children or adults who hold a concession card issued by Centrelink or the Department of Veterans Affairs, or a Queensland Seniors Card. Public dental clinics are located in a number of suburbs around Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Gold and Sunshine Coasts as well as region...al towns throughout Queensland. Dental health is connected to both physical and mental health. Untreated tooth decay can impact speech, diet and self confidence and create a greater risk of heart disease, kidney disease and diabetes, To make an appointment at your local public dental clinic, call 1300 300 850. IMAGE DESCRIPTION: a caricature of a tooth, including a smiling face, holds a red toothbrush in his/her/their right hand.

22.01.2022 It may surprise you to learn that women over the age of 55 are the fastest growing group of homeless people in Australia. Homelessness can affect people from all walks of life when circumstances change unexpectedly. #HW2020

What impact will a payment pause have on your credit report? What if you are not in a position to start making repayments again yet? Check out this easy to read information from CreditSmart to know where you stand.

21.01.2022 Racism can involve harassment, abuse or humiliation of a person because of their skin colour, ethnicity or country of origin. Not all racism is obvious; it can appear as an unconscious bias or be reflected in systems and institutions. If you experience or witness racism, or any other form of discrimination, you can lodge a formal complaint or an informal report with the Queensland Human Rights Commission. IMAGE DESCRIPTION: text reads Witnessed racism or discrimination? Report it at qhrc.qld.gov.au. Help us build a fairer, safer and more inclusive Queensland.

20.01.2022 The final tip from our Financial Resilience workers to help you prepare for the reduction in JobKeeper and Coronavirus Supplement payments that is scheduled for September is to make sure that you are getting all of the concessions that youre eligible for. 20.01.2022 Today marks the start of Seniors Week, celebrating the 800000 seniors living in Queensland and their valuable contributions that have built our communities. COVID-19 has increased social isolation for many older people, with fewer visitors, cancellation of activities and an increased reliance on technology to access services. To combat the loneliness you can send a virtual hug to a special person to let them know youre thinking of them.

17.01.2022 Wed love to see the No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS) available to more Queenslanders. 16.01.2022 Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. We've chosen to share this quote from Women's Health Goulburn North East to encourage action on the issue. IMAGE DESCRIPTION: white font on an orange background ''Know this: Gender inequality lies at the heart of violence against women. So it follows that gender equality will go a long way towards eliminating gender-based violence. We can achieve gender equality through active learning, conscious decisions, respectful behaviour and by eliminating unconscious bias at home, at work and in the community". At the top of the image are five old-fashioned light globes; the fourth one is lit up in yellow.

13.01.2022 Be kind to me this Christmas... from a little person's point of view: - You've probably let me eat more sugar than usual - I'm bound to have higher highs and lower lows. - In the holidays I'm out of routine - I can cope better with transitions when I know exactly what's coming next so please explain our plans for the day clearly to me. - The anticipation of Christmas can be pretty overwhelming and exhausting. Help me to rest by keeping to my normal bedtimes.... - Travelling at Christmas is stressful for all of us. When possible, be flexible about when we travel and check the traffic before we leave. - I have no idea about the value of money - if there's no way I can have that giant lego set for Christmas, then please tell me well before Christmas morning. I'll have time to get over my disappointment and I'll learn to trust your honesty. - Grown-ups find preparing for Christmas stressful. I know you want it to be perfect for me so I'll have memories I can cherish forever. But I see you getting stressed, sometimes even before you do. I pick up on it and reflect it like a mirror. Please slow down, notice me, talk to me, play with me. That's what I'll remember. - When I lose it, and I probably will at some point, please don't make me ashamed of my feelings by shouting at me. I never set out to deliberately disappoint you and I didn't try to ruin your Christmas. I'm really not that calculated. I'm just a little person whose brain deals with stress in different ways to yours. Please try to understand me, from my point of view. And when all else fails, wrap your arms around me and hold me so I feel the strength of your See more

04.01.2022 COVID-19 has led to Australias first recession in 29 years. According to the University of Sydney, gambling activities remain popular even during times of economic recession. Current financial and employment insecurity could mean that more people are at risk of gambling harm. Financial hardship is often linked to gambling problems; people experiencing financial stress turn to gambling in the hope that it will solve their financial worries, while those who have a gambling add...iction can neglect other financial commitments in order to sustain their habit. Responsible Gambling Awareness Week encourages people to know their limits and recognize if gambling has become a problem for them or someone they know.
