07.01.2022 Driving from Cairns to Airlie Beach today, I sadly thought I would miss out on the Anzac Driveway Dawn celebrations. I listened to the Canberra Dawn service on ABC Far North and saw many people at the end of their driveways with their candles. I can honestly say I felt blessed and never have I felt so connected to the spirit of the Anzacs. For the next few hours I sat listening to Veterans stories, kids reading out their letters of gratitude for those who have served pa...st and present. In the middle of nowhere there were people with their candles at the edge of their properties. I made sure I flashed them so they knew they were not alone. (I didn't beep my horn....until about 10am for those few still at the end of their driveways still celebrating a diggers breakfast). They cheered back. It was beautiful. I could have easily stopped at every cenotaph I came across to pay my respects but I had to get home. I did stop at this one in Cardwell. Just for a moment. So many emotions. After today, I am confident they will never be forgotten. Ever. Lest we forget. See more
