22.01.2022 Comedy = tragedy plus time, sure. But tragedy plus time plus comedy venue opening right at the start of another tragedy = only doing 4 shows before postponing the rest of the run. I tell you what, from the outside, opening a new theatre in the midst of a global pandemic may seem ill advised. But from the inside, let me tell you, it is. You see the open-a-theatre trigger is pulled years before opening the doors, so here we are. The first shutdown back in March was 12 days be...fore opening, this second shutdown was 2 days after opening. Now that’s funny. We were hoping for a Comedy Comeback but COVID beat us to it. So we’re pivoting (again) from public theatre that can stream shows, to streaming theatre that might one day be open to the public. And this week shows are going on sale to watch from home, so follow Comedy Republic to find out who, what, and most importantly, how. And also, if you’re doing ok (we know this isn’t everyone), and can spare some shillings, and want to get behind it, the best possible thing to show your support is to join the theatre as a Citizen. Every creative grant we have applied for so far has been rejected (one council actually told us on the phone we don’t really do comedy, could you say you’re doing cabaret? Incredible). So it is our Citizens that are keeping this fledgling republic in office.

01.01.2022 Here I am in my other role as Acting Chief Broadcast Technician Officer for the last Comedy Republic broadcast since the government at 11pm on Wednesday night changed the Internet Broadcast exemption to Internet Broadcast for New Media Purposes. And it’s a very broad definition of ‘news’ that includes talking over decades old movies. So instead we’ve packed up all the gear, brought it home, and set it up at home. WE’RE PUSHING ON!
