22.01.2022 My Aunty Gays funeral was today, Wednesday, 16 January. She was due to come over to me for morning tea with my mum and cousin but was taken ill on New Years Day and died the next day. I read a speech and shared this poem at the funeral. MORNING TEA Were going to have morning tea,... my mum, my aunt, my cousin and me. Well sit in the garden, have tea in the garden, under the shade of the Jacaranda tree, its leaves casting patterns of shadow and shine. Ill tie up that head of plumbago with twine and clean up the bird baths, get rid of the slime. Ill put up the parasol, make sure they have shade, and offer a choice: tea, wine, lemonade? The scones that I seemed to spend all the night making sit proud on a plate; my attempt at fine baking went according to plan. Ill serve them with cream and some strawberry jam. Shell love being here, my aunty, I know it, under the tree with the table below it, set with the simple things that she likes best. (I told her, Bring Ollie! Hes also a guest!) Ill sweep up the leaves, remove the dead mouse, banish the cobwebs festooning the house. It will all be so pretty, as clean as can be, when aunty comes over to have morning tea. But the bird baths are stagnant, the water still green. The leaves are unswept, the tree never seen. The drooping plumbago is still without twine. The fridge holds a bottle of unopened wine. The tea cups are empty. The table is bare. The garden stands silent. Nobody is there. I should have met aunty at our morning tea but we met in the evening, my aunty and me. I said my goodbyes and then I went home and ate a whole plateful of freshly-baked scones.

21.01.2022 Reviewed By Ray Simmons for Readers Favorite 5 Stars I dont like lawyers any more than anyone else does. Im not particularly fond of judges and courtrooms either. These are two reasons that I was more than a little surprised by how much I enjoyed The Lily Year by L.H. Anderson. Lily Cooper is a court reporter. She records everything said in the courtroom so that the typists can eventually put it into neat, precise manuscripts. Her best friend, Maddy, works in the same ...courtroom. She trains and reviews all the typists. Lilys main romantic interest is a new judge who she literally bumps into one morning on the way to work. This may sound like an improbable start, but Ill tell you a secret. Good writing can create a tale about anyone or anything interesting, no matter how awful or boring the situation or the people actually are. Dont worry. The characters in The Lily Year are actually great people. People you would like to really get to know. The situation isn't anything awful either. My point is that L.H. Anderson can write very, very well. The conversations between Lily and Maddy are sublime. In fact, all the dialogue stands out, as well as the characters. These characters have personality. Some of them even have wit. And L.H. Anderson knows how to show it to us in a way that makes The Lily Year shine. The Lily Year felt good. It made the possibility of real love seem likely. It even made lawyers look like nice guys. Thats great writing. This is a great book, no matter what genre you usually like.

21.01.2022 After toads, we have...In the seventies a series of cruel and pointless experiments was conducted on baby monkeys. In one such experiment they took a baby away from its mother and put him in a cage with a piece of cut-off carpet (total social deprivation). After hed grown attached to the carpet or bonded with it, they introduced a series of stimuli and made notes. At one stage, I remember, they introduced a silver toy automatic robot that came in noisily, lights flash...ing. They introduced him to a group of other young monkeys, with whom, surprise surprise, he failed to relate. Both the monkey and I were indelibly traumatised; only I had the luxury of being able to express myself. Heres the result. EXPERIMENT His mother was a piece of carpet, his father men in white, staring ceaselessly, god-like, sharing nothing. They gave him a bare space to live in, he and mother carpet, and dished out fear when it suited them. They discovered that, without love, he became disorientated, fearful, jumped at noises, could not adjust to a peer group. The camera recorded. They sent in a toy robot, which clicked and whirred alarmingly. Monkey ran to mummy carpet and cowered, gibbering, his face contorted. Well, thats sorted. Mother is essential to babys welfare, science triumphantly reported. L.H. Anderson

20.01.2022 The villa where we recently stayed in Bali had a reception area where there was a small library. I was permitted to leave a signed copy of TLY there (top right in picture; you can just about make it out !) Ever put a note in a bottle and cast it out to sea? That's what it felt like!

20.01.2022 Reviewed By Chris Fischer for Readers Favourite 5 Stars In a lovely and interesting new entry in the genre of contemporary romance, The Lily Year by first time author L.H. Anderson is a book that many readers will find a very delightful read. Delving into the rather unusual relationship between Justin and Lily, the story recounts Lily's difficult history, and how it damaged both her and her family life. Lily's sense of humor through all of her difficulties touches Justin's... heart, and he realizes that she might be exactly what he needs. But the couple goes through some major difficulties, and it seems unlikely they will be able to make it. Will they both be able to heal enough to move on together? Only time, and The Lily Year will tell! I felt that The Lily Year was an excellent example of what a story of contemporary fiction should be. The story of the wounded Lily, still determined to live the best life possible, and the person who could be her soul mate, Justin, is one that will suck readers in from the very start and will keep them obsessively turning the pages until the very end. Those who love any form of romance, but especially those who like a realistic, modern day story, would definitely love this book. It's easy for me to be able to recommend this book. I certainly hope that author L.H. Anderson is already working on the next novel as I write this review. With talent like this, the author is unlikely to remain undiscovered for long! See more

19.01.2022 Here are three of my favourite quotes, taken from my web site lhanderson.com.au I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book. Groucho Marx... What she was finding also was how one book led to another, doors kept opening wherever she turned and the days weren't long enough for the reading she wanted to do. Alan Bennett There is a crack, a crack in everything That's how the light gets in" Leonard Cohen RIP

18.01.2022 The interview is available as a "The Couch Extra " on their Facebook page. Sorry for any confusion but it's out of our control. https://www.facebook.com/TheCouchAU/# Second video down the page.

18.01.2022 I'm in the process of making revisions to my second book but sometimes life throws something at you and you have to take time out. I wrote this as a result. MY HEART Me and my two halves... go off to work and do the shopping and work out every Saturday and do yoga on Thursday. Busy busy bees my two halves and me. Me and my two halves read the paper a little and my Kindle a lot. We use technology, iThis and iThat. Were into the iCult my two halves and i. We watch TV, my halves and me. We like quiz shows and Netflix and download Game of Thrones and True Detective and Breaking Bad because we like good acting. Were breaking bad, my halves and I, but were good at acting. We go to the theatre and applaud. We have opinions. We lie on a lounger in the garden or go swimming in the sea and dry off on a towel on the sand and taste the salt on our face. We have salt on our face. We go out for coffee with friends. We forget to ask how they are and then we remember and ask. We have a busy life. We breathe in. We breathe out. We dont die. We dont live. In out in out in out. We go on, my heart and I.

17.01.2022 I read this in my teens and have loved it ever since. It says everything I believe about mankind's attitude to animals - "man, the jealous, man, the cruel," and man, the greedy, I would add - but also about the importance of inner beauty and integrity. Lullaby for a Baby Toad Sleep, my child:... The dark dock leaf Spreads a tent To hide your grief. The thing you saw In the forest pool When you bent to drink In the evening cool Was a mask that He, The Wisest Toad, Gave us to hide Our precious load The jewel that shines In the flat toad-head With gracious sapphire And changing red. For if, my toadling, Your face were fair As the precious jewel That glimmers there, Man, the jealous, Man, the cruel, Would look at you And suspect the jewel. So dry the tears From your horned eyes, And eat your supper Of dew and flies; Curl in the shade Of the nettles deep, Think of your jewel And go to sleep. By Stella Gibbons

12.01.2022 I have started to receive pictures from international readers of The Lily Year. It's wonderful knowing my book is available world wide!

12.01.2022 Mentioned in The Lily Year and inspiring the cover is the sculpture Ascalon outside St George's Cathedral on The Terrace in Perth. Commissioned by Dr John Shepherd, Dean of Perth at the time, it was realised by Marcus Canning and Christian de Vietri and is symbolic of St George and the Dragon. The photo of the sculpture is by John Penhallow on a visit to Perth recently from Sydney. Thank you, John, for linking the book with the sculpture! (The uncharacteristic pink tinge is a... trick of the night; by day, St George's cloak, which reminds my heroine of a calla lily, is white, see inset.) CHAPTER 1 But it was Monday morning and I didnt need any depressing thoughts. I got off the bus outside Stirling Gardens and checked out St Georges Cathedral across the road. Standing in front of it was one of my favourite things, a giant concoction of steel and powdered aluminium, gleaming white in the sun or by moonlight, that looked like a big calla lily, with beautiful flowing lines. It was supposed to represent St Georges lance with his cloak flying around it like a banner but it reminded me of a lily.

12.01.2022 The number of likes and shares in response to Morning Tea has been heart-warming. My poem evidently touched a chord. Thank you to everyone. Linda

11.01.2022 Linda's next novel Blue Sunflowers is almost finished. The writing is done and now she has three test readers checking through the storyline. Next will be the proper copy and line edit followed by the final beta read through. It's a very long process getting a book to the printers once the author has finished the story. Whilst all this is in play, the cover design is ongoing.

07.01.2022 The Town of Victoria Park is very proactive in creating that village feeling in an urban environment. It is a great supporter of local artists, businesses and residents alike. The Victoria Park Centre for the Arts provides workshops, day, evening and short courses in arts, crafts and more for adults, young people and children. The town library situated in East Victoria Park (Sussex Street) now has two copies of The Lily Year.

06.01.2022 BENEATH or THE DRAGON QUEEN. Which is the better title? I am a queen. I walk along a purple street where jacaranda petals fall unseen, ... an amethyst carpet for my feet, random jewels in my hair. Flowers scent the air. The skys so blue, it hurts my eyes. Leaves lace patterns, whilst a chatty pair of magpies ardle-wardle their surprise at my being there. Such a treat, this palace of delight, this miracle in an urban street. But in the dungeon something stirs. The dragon stretches out his claws, gives his wings an experimental whirr and roams my palace, floor by floor. His nostrils twitch. Hes at the door. I weep, I rail, but cannot escape his fiery breath, his lashing tail. Linda Anderson

03.01.2022 The block on the corner of Kent and Berwick Street is now for sale. The house is long gone and so is the lemon tree. Strange to think that the old lady will never know I wrote about her and that she lives on in the opening chapter of a book. CHAPTER 1 On the corner of Kent Street and Berwick Street there was an old weatherboard house.... I used to see the old lady who lived in it out in her garden. It wasnt much of a house. It wasnt much of a garden, just a patch of scrawny lawn, barely green for five minutes in spring and then yellow and straw-like for the rest of the summer. There wasnt much for her to do other than to keep it trimmed or spray the single lemon tree that stood against the fence. Once she had her arm in a sling and I wondered how she had done it and how she managed. Then I didnt see her for a while, until one day bulldozers came in and demolished the house and chewed up the garden until only the lemon tree remained.

03.01.2022 Reviewed By Tracy Slowiak In an intriguing and unusual new romantic read by debut author L.H. Anderson, The Lily Year is a book that readers will have a hard time putting down once they've started it. Follow Lily's story, a young woman who has experienced a devastating event in her life. Her parents want to pretend that nothing happened, and want the entire family to move on as before. But there is much more to Lily than meets the eye, and certainly more than the hand her pas...t has dealt her. When she and Justin connect, it seems as if they might be perfect for each other. But things get very tough, and it seems as if things might never work the way Lily hopes. Will Justin and Lily's connection be too strong to break? You'll need to read the book to find out! I very much enjoyed The Lily Year. Author L.H. Anderson has done a great job in creating characters, especially Lily, that her readers will connect with, relate to and come to truly care about. If that isn't a hallmark of a great author, I'm not sure what is. Her story is realistic, romantic, and will even have readers wiping away tears in parts. Any reader who enjoys romance, or who is looking for a good work of fiction in general, should absolutely give The Lily Year a chance. I am pleased to recommend this book to any such reader, and look forward to more from the very promising author, L.H. Anderson, in the near future. See more

01.01.2022 Review Rating: 5 Stars Reviewed By Rabia Tanveer In The Lily Year by L.H. Anderson, life has a way of throwing you a curve ball. It happened with Lily when she was very young. As you can expect, it turned her life around and took it the other way. She was living, but barely. She was missing a lot and it was because of what happened all those years ago. Nevertheless, it's not the only thing that ruined her life after that incident. Apart from her confidence, she also lost ...her relationship with her mother. Her parents never survived the incident, and they soon became a dysfunctional family. And now, she has had enough. She will no longer let the past rule her. So in order to move forward, she would have to solve what happened all those years ago. This is the only way in which she can have a fulfilling life. And of course, with Justins love she can do it, cant she? Lily is among those characters you will remember forever. Even if you forget the name of the novel, you will remember her. She has that effect. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this novel. I loved the romantic elements, the mystery elements, and the action elements. It is a well-rounded novel that is as close to real life as it can get. You cannot help but be charmed by Lily; she actually reminded me a lot of Dean Winchester from Supernatural. Both suffered a lot, but hey, they get by tremendously, they are fighters and they have an awesome sense of humor. This book is simply, utterly great! See more
