25.01.2022 Ravioli, anyone? Hand made in our kitchen
24.01.2022 Fishy Thursdays are doing well - ever tried Seafood Lasangna? The chef made the pasta sheets fresh and the added his magic seafood mix. Lots of happy customers and I should NEVER have had that second helping!
23.01.2022 Wine of the week: Amarone Valpolicello Classico DOC made by Tommaso Bussola in the Veneto. This seductive, hedonistic wine is almost impossible to beat. It is a rich, powerful, full bodied red scoring between 94 and 97 points on the top tasting. The grapes are Corvinia, Rondinella and Molinara and are semi dried for up to 3 months after the harvest. The wine is aged in oak for at least 2 years before release. Produced according to ancient tradition in an area where wines it is believed that vines were planted in the bronze age.
21.01.2022 We have our weekly Thursday fish night tonight - the chef has a chance to shine ! Also WINE OF THE WEEK: Santa Margherita Prosecco D.O.C.G. is the sparkling wine we fell in love with at first taste. This refreshing cold wine is supposed to be drunk with appetizers, fruit based recipies and desserts but I have to confess that I drink it at every opportunity. The extra dry taste compliments just about any food and as for the bubbles - my father in law hails from the Lombardi area where Lambrusco (lots of bubbles)and Moscato (less bubbles) is drunk at the table - so I have been taught that bubbles are good.
20.01.2022 Carciofi is Italian for artichokes . This is the dish of grilled Carciofi salt and olive oil - just add fresh bread warm from the oven and you have a healthy meal fit for any king
19.01.2022 Ever seen a Panettone this size? Win this 10kg Christmas Cake for $5 in the raffle with proceeds going to the Rural Fire Services at Phegans Bay
17.01.2022 Interesting blog - try the alternatives like Fernet Milano. Ramazzotti or Averna. All of them are made with scores of spices and are considered to have medicinal properties when taken before or after meals. Nothing medicinal about the taste, though, Italians love the slightly bitter taste. Order a glass from our bar http://www.smh.com.au//a-dark-spirit-rises-20121101-28l7l.
16.01.2022 Nonno napping with his brand new grandchild - no time to go home - no wonder the kids think he lives in the restaurant
14.01.2022 I had to browse for a picture and came upon this gorgeous bridal setting for Dom and Em under cover in the courtyard
13.01.2022 Another happy birthday! This cozy space seats 12 - 14. Fish night was great
13.01.2022 This is me in Cinque Terre slavering over a real Porchetta. The entire pig roasted perfectly - the skin a beautiful golden crisp, bow around the neck, apple in the mouth (and I did not look at the other end). We ate a slice of pork on a fresh roll with no condiments and it was wonderful. And yes, it does transform the taste when one eats perched on a beached boat in the little harbour!
13.01.2022 We are excited by the response to our Thursday Fish Nights - try something new for $39 for three courses - there are two choices for every course - see my previous post for some of the traditional dishes on the menu
12.01.2022 White anchovies (vinegary and not salty at all) with fresh rocket and lemon teamed with Domenico's bread - delicious if eaten under the palms on a lovely day. You need to wash it down with a cold Soave wine
11.01.2022 I should have added this quote to the Wine of the Week post , if you would, replace the word Wine with Prosecco. "Wine, one sip of this will bathe the drooping spirits in delight beyond the bliss of dreams. Be wise and taste." - Milton... I like any cocktail mixed with Prosecco - try a Bellini (fresh peach) or Fragolini (small wild strawberries picked once year in season)
11.01.2022 Fillet steak Tagliata, rare, sliced in the Italian style and served in the traditional way on rocket with Parmigiana. Only at La Cucina Cortesi.
11.01.2022 We are still taking bookings for December functions and corporate dinners. Talk to us about your budget, food preferences and venue choice.
11.01.2022 Today justice was served and we are serving.........food!!
10.01.2022 Anybody around the Central Coast this weekend ? don't forget that La Cucina Cortesi is the best place to eat
09.01.2022 Who remember the mussel broth.
07.01.2022 Sunday lunch : Juicy pan fried Mahi Mahi fillets (caught in Australian and NZ waters) with fennel, tomato and orange salad.
06.01.2022 Wine of the week : The famous Il Frascati Monte Porzio Catone D.O.C. is light, dry, aromatic white made from Malvasia and Trebbiano grapes. The town of Frascati outside Rome had more than 1000 taverns in the mid 15th century - all serving the light bodied crisp wine of the region, just perfect for summer al fresco dining. The legend is that Frascati wine dates back to 12 AD, and I believe it because Italians seem to have made wine fom the beginning of time. We noticed that the Romans drink Frascati with everything. Dangerously drinkable is the term I read somwhere and we can serve a glass or a bottle under the palms al fresco or while it remains chilly out, inside our lovely restaurant.
06.01.2022 Last year's winners of the big panettone cake. Much appreciated customers deserved to win. Hope they are happy in Tassie
05.01.2022 Normal cities have hooting and swearing during traffic jams - in Venice there is no hooting, lots of yelling and shouting, and, believe it or not, a bit of singing in between the insults
05.01.2022 Wine of the week : Chianti from the hilly regions around Tuscany, Sienna and Florance. Vines were grown and wine produced as far back as the Etruscans, and the area was formally designated a for wine production by Cosime the 3rd in 1700. This famous traditionally made red is drunk with pasta and meat, chicken and roast vegetables. The grapes are Sangiovese and Canaiolo. In 1984, Chianti obtained the denomination D.O.C.G. (Denominazione d'Origine Controllata e Garantita, or Controlled and Guaranteed Denomination of Origin), which is the highest type of protection and recognition for quality Italian wines. Well worth a try!
05.01.2022 pasta making day .......we need a longer bench
04.01.2022 I got stuck in the morning traffic from Ettalong to Gosford - nothing as bad as the poor Sydneysiders- and wished I was stuck somewhere else. That of course reminded me of being stuck in traffic in the city of my dreams - Venice . And I have a picture of a Venice Jam!
04.01.2022 Wine of the Week : A white wine this time, and we will be serving it by the glass or bottle. Pasqua Soave made from Garganega, Chardonnay, Trebbiano grapes is a fresh and elegant dry white wine. The winery is in the centre of Verona and the family has been making wines for the past 80 years. Soave is seen by some wine writers as the most important white to come out of Italy, but the family also make high end reds, more about them in another post! Pair this wine with our great fish dishes and discover the joys of Italy
03.01.2022 One of the meals we offered on Thursday Fish night - crispy tasty whitebait on rocket
