25.01.2022 A BIG HELLO to the Central Coast. Gosford City Farmers Market is on this Easter Sunday.....12th April from 7.00am. Now for ALL those who are rushing in at 7.00a...m we will now have our security guard dribble customers in....so if you like standing in long lines for ages then come at 7.00am... NSW Farmers Market wants you to spread the times that you come... so we are going to help you understand what we require. A big thank you to customers last Sunday - very respectful and adhering to the social distancing of 1.5 metres. As always, the safety of customers and stallholders remain paramount, so we will have additional floor signage this Sunday, making social distancing even easier. Purchasing direct from the farmers' means less food handling, unlike supermarkets handled time and time again. Supermarkets have now suspended home delivery and click n collect, surely attending the Farmers Market is more plausable than a supermarket. Additional measures may need to be implemented in the coming weeks' as we refer to the current Government Gazette on Gathering and Movement for direction, but at this stage nothing new. 24.01.2022 Hello Central Coast and surrounds... OPEN: Sunday 8th November at Gosford Showground. Growing good quality produce takes time. But don’t worry, at Gosford City... Farmers Market or any market that NSW Farmers Market operates, you will find genuine growers and food producers. From last weeks post we have established that there is no difference between the "new age" idea of the slow food and the typical centuries old term.... Farmers Market. As far as farmers/producers are concerned there are three main objects for participating in a Farmers’ Market: obtain direct feedback from customers about their produce to help them improve what they offer supplement their income; and gain a fair price for their produce. Additionally, farmers get to understand what their customers want and shoppers learn about the produce they are purchasing. Connections are made. Now believe it or not....farmers have been selling direct to consumers from the farm gate and at local markets for centuries. When I was a kid in Byabarra my sisters and I had a little road side stall to sell corn, spinach, cauliflower and even brussel sprouts to earn a little coin.....that was 1967. The introduction of supermarkets and convenience stores in more recent times rather than the traditional direct link between producer and consumer has greatly diminished. Over the last forty years or so consumers have progressively lost connections with the food they eat and those who grow it. It was hard to see in 2000 how a monthly market would have any consequence on changing peoples buying habits....and to be truthful they didn't - monthly farmers markets like twice a month markets are inefficient and ineffective. Was the future of the farmers’ market sector going to primarily continue being monthly or bi-monthly, five-hour event in inner-city neighbourhoods where shoppers forget to turn up or because it is one of those months where the first Sunday falls before the first Saturday? Or to run them on ridiculous days for example a Thursday from 10.00am till 2pm twice a month when every one is at work? Do they ever work....no. Might be a good market for back-yard growers who have grown extra but this type of market isn't a threat, serious or otherwise, to the stanglehold that supermarkets have. No. Farmers Markets have become articulated way beyond where they were even a decade ago.... even where they were 3 years ago. Just around the corner there will be articulated purpose built facilities for farmers markets and those facilities will be welcoming of farmers and these facilities will be a first in Australia, and will do more for the farmer market movement then any other methodology to date. And these facilities will operate more than one day a week. So if a farmers’ market has genuine producers (more than 10), strong patronage and revitalises the connection between rural and urban, then just replicate the model that works most effectively. If our farmers’ market sector is to grow up and really make an impact on the future of farming and direct sales, increased access to fresh, local produce, then we need to be thinking bigger and better. Rather, I see we are stuck in the methodology of the past with a myriad of farmer market Associations that are still running the same "How to run a farmers market" procedures that were around in 2002. 23.01.2022 HELLO CENTRAL COAST...WE ARE TRADING THIS SUNDAY ! We are open this Sunday for trading as we have been classified as an "Essential Business". Just like the supe...rmarkets, however, with reduced risk. No high risk trolleys (because you can bring your own at Gosford City Farmers Market) and no small areas which makes social distancing almost impossible. The Local Food Authority has inspected our Market and were very impressed with our sanitising stations, large health signs and our patrons adhering to the social distancing requirements of 1.5 metres. Fresh air is a "disinfectant" proven by the Ministry of Defence scientists. The efficacy of open air treatment has been absolutely proven - Gosford City Farmers Market has an abundance of open space. Why go to a supermarket ? With the updated measures set out by the Government regarding leaving your home for essentials - this is the perfect opportunity to drop in to the farmers market to gather farm fresh produce (boost your immune system) and enjoy some form of normality. We are working daily to ensure the safety of our stallholders and patrons - further measures may need to be implemented in the coming weeks. But don’t worry, at Gosford City ...Farmers Market you will find genuine growers and food producers. Dare we call ourselves Slow Food? Absolutely.... Slow Food is anything other than Fast Food.... Nothing new there. The "slow food" movement aims to increase community awareness of the value from farm to market of good, clean, local food at a fair price..... which is exactly what a farmer and artisan food producer does. It is exactly what a Farmers Market does and exactly what NSW Farmers Market has been doing since 1999. Of course we sideline the BS like calling ourselves an "earth market" as such. The gong for marketing slipperyness however, must go to the Slow Food movement with a claim of 60 such "earth markets" world wide. So one must ask that beyond the 60 markets who wish to sign up to this scheme of "Earth Market" that any farmers market not sighned up are NOT earth markets?? The uptake of 'Farmers Markets' world wide is, however, HUGE compared to the minimal and minute uptake of the Slow Food Movement. Significantly for ALL the world wide market places where farmers can sell direct to the consumer, these places and venues, have been going on, in many cases, for centuries without such a "tag". Yet we know and trust them. Any Farmers Market is an EARTH MARKET and any product sold at a Farmers Market is "slow food" produced. One has to wonder at what the difference was prior to 1986, before the Slow Food movement was "created" in Italy, on what "tag" we should call FARMERS and the process undertaken to achieve that outcome. Perhaps we start calling them "Slow fooders" as opposed to farmers. Gee I wonder what my farming family was doing in the 1960's, in Byabarra a village at the foot of Comboyne Mt, with our vegetable, dairy and beef farm. What? Not slow food? Not growing produce in the EARTH and of the EARTH? Then what were we doing and where did that cow-dung come from! Dare we call ourselves Vegan? Absolutely.... Join me at the farmers market for a tour of tasty vegan foodlike farm-fresh local produce, pizza, and cookiesand all the organic, free-range, cage-free, pasture-raised humane goodness you could ask for! Dare we call ourselves Farm Direct without the middleman? Absolutely! You cannot get more direct or real than a Farmers Market. If you are buying online with boxed veges delivered, whatever the supposed claims are of the online "shop", it will be highly mechanised, it won't be the full quid and will have travelled miles to get to its end destination - you. Each individual "YOU" has to have your "boxed veges" individually delivered (with a cost of course) and the claim is that they are a "farmers market online" (How do you know it comes from the farm they claim it comes from??). What RUBBISH! Don't be sucked into the marketing hype. They are hidden pay walls and you really cannot be guarenteed (read that word again guarenteed - can you be guaranteed?) where the product comes from..... you cannot look at the "real" product from generic photos...you cannot pick up and feel the product.... you cannot smell the fruit. The point of a Farmers Market is that you get to see the farmer and artisan producer and talk with the farmer and pass your money directly to that farmer. Farmers Markets are still the real deal and farmers markets are still the best way to support your local food producers. 03.01.2022 Hello lovely Guest, what a lovely day it is, for our final destination of our French journey we will be headed to the South of France, we just received some be...autiful sea food pick up this morning from the sea food market by Darron Sea food in Wamberal, it all look spectacular, produce so fresh, perfect for our live cooking this saturday ( please note we do not sell the sea food in it s primary form but only in our ready to eat meal or take away, as we are not a sea food merchant). Please see the menu below. We are introducing a new range of organic infused French vinegar prepared in French oak barrel from The LEONY house.
