25.01.2022 Come have an ILLY coffee or a bite to eat at Odette's. LA3 worked with Studio Mango and the client to create a new Outdoor Dining experience on the corner of Lake & Charles Street, North Cairns. The use of retractable awnings has been a successful innovation that covers the permanent seating areas surrounding this unique and attractive outlet. The video below shows how the cafe packs up at night and how the whole development compliments and contributes to the streetscape and vibrancy of the locality just north of Cairns Hospital. https://vimeo.com/manage/180816518/general

23.01.2022 LA3 congratulates Cairns Regional Council on receiving a Green Space Regional Award for the Munro Martin Parklands project in the Australian Institute of Horticulture's 2020 National Awards. One of the award winning aspects of the park is the display of tropical vines throughout the park. When the various vines are inflower the park is now becoming an attraction for locals and visitors, also demonstrating how these plants can be used in both urban greening projects and r...esidential gardens. The Council had made a significant investment in the park to make it an enticing and usable urban space that forms part of the Cairns Performing Arts Precinct. The investment is paying off well with the success of the park and CPAC being acknowledged by a number of awards over the last few years including the 2020 Minister's Award for Urban Design given by the Qld. Department of Housing & Public Works. The award notes the contribution to the success of the project by Council’s engagement of AIH Registered Horticulturalists who included Andrew Prowse from LA3 and the late Kim Morris. Andrew was also the Landscape Architect of the park with local architects CA Architects. LA3 and CA have continued on with work on the park, with the Stage 2 Green Room & Box Office being completed this year. Congratulations Council on having the vision and resources to bring this project to Cairns and the region and our visitors. #la3_design #munromartinparklands #farnorthqueensland

23.01.2022 LA3 was commissioned by Tablelands Regional Council to create a new war memorial for the Rocky Creek Memorial Park between Tolga and Walkamin. Rocky Creek was the location of the largest WWII militaryhospital in the southern hemisphere, a 3,000 bed hospital that treated over 60,000 wounded between 1943 to 1945. The park features plaques and colours of the various units associated with the hospital set on local granite boulders, the first being unveiledin 1995 the 50th Anniversaryof Victory in the Pacific (VP Day). Last month, to celebrate the 75th Anniversaryof VP Day, our new entrance walls and memorial with a sculpture by local artist Amanda Feher was unveiledat a moving ceremony. Amanda's sculpture of a doctor and nurse with a soldier patient is based on a WWII photograph

20.01.2022 LA3 worked with CONVIC on the redevelopment plan for Central Park Skate Park in Bundaberg in 2020. The team undertook public consultation in the form of a workshop with key stakeholders and park users and online consultation during the difficult COVID-19 restrictions. Project theming took inspiration from the local agricultural industry and its influence on the region's landscape character which was symbolically represented in the design through shapes, forms, materiality and... layout. This approach has created a space that is site specific and provides the Bundaberg community with a truly unique skate park. The new design provides: A beginner bowl, a street area, skate stairs and an advanced/ intermediate bowl. The design also provides landscape and shade and provision for universal access around the top of the bowl, a future amenities block, universal access shelter and seating, a drinking fountain, bike racks and feature tree planting in the form of the iconic Queensland Bottle Tree among other hardy plantings and retention of all existing trees. Some of the specifics of the Skate Bowl Works include: A double set stair with kink skate rails, taco corner with pool coping, central island and main bowl, escalator and extension, steep bank, pocket with pool coping, vert extension with platform QP, quarter pipe with tight pocket, pole jam, long flat ledge, flat bar round, china bank with kerb, doorway + stenciled concrete, euro manual pad, hubba ledge with upper kicker and a 4 set skate stair. Bundaberg Regional Council expect the new park to be a drawcard for the town while creating an overdue upgrade to the locally loved Walla Street Skate Park. #bundaberg #skate #skatepark #2020 #newdesign #Skatebowl

10.01.2022 The Warrina Lakes Parkland is located near Innisfail Township in the Cassowary Coast Regional. LA3 was engagedby CCRC to prepare a Strategic Masterplanfor the extensive parkland to increase its role in the town and region’s amenity and increase tourism. LA3 identified the existing Lake... as the centerpiecethat could be openedup, complemented by a central feature and linked by a main axis from the arrival areas and future wetlands in the west of the site. A multi use sports area, outdoor cinema and naturplay were added while other key elements such as the mini-rail loved by all and the historic shed were embellished and better integrated into a larger updated parkland. 06.01.2022 Bellingen’s main street, Hyde Street, is an important spine for the central business activity of Bellingen. It provides an important link to the major establishments and business developments in town. The new design by LA3 enhances this link by significantly increasing pedestrian comfort and addresses safety issues by providing a more pleasant streetscape environment. Our proposed design transforms Bellingen Main Street into a public pedestrian space whilst maintaining traffi...c flows that emphasise connectivity between the surrounding shops, links to community facilities and the creation of social areas. The design process involved preparation of a site analysis report, conceptual design, liaison with community groups and then the development of design options based on feedback from community consultations. https://vimeo.com/298298461 @ Bellingen, New South Wales

06.01.2022 This landscape design project provided a landscape setting for a significant public art piece by Cairns artist Brian Robinson, who is located on the Cairns Esplanade foreshore. The design layout provided new ways of using and appreciating the art piece in this unique and popular setting. The planting design references ‘Sea Grasses’ which reinforces the marine theme of the sculpture, while also providing scenic vantage points for viewers. The pavements used are local porphyry ...stone in a crazy pave format to complement the adjacent decking and stenciled coloured concrete. The placement of new seating reused those located out of place from a previous layout.
